AZ appoint Advocaat
New chief targets European qualification after accepting interim offer

Belgium boss Dick Advocaat has been appointed as the new manager of AZ Alkmaar until the end of the season while continuing his role at international level.

The defending Eredivisie champions parted company with summer appointment Ronald Koeman at the weekend following a poor start to the defence of their title.

Advocaat, who claimed that he was contacted before the start of the season and prior to Koeman's appointment, confirmed he had been re-approached on Saturday.

The former Holland boss has now accepted AZ's offer as a clause in his contract with the Belgian Football Association allows him to manage a club on an interim basis.

Advocaat's new club sit seventh in the Eredivisie and he has targeted improvements, saying: "We need to get European football at AZ.

"If we do not achieve this, then I will have done something wrong."

Advocaat was appointed Belgium coach two months ago after a spell at Zenit St Petersburg, the team he led to the Russian league title in 2007 and the Uefa Cup the following year.

Koeman out, Advocaat in. Sounds like a good deal to me ;D

Are you mad about the days Celtic couldn't win a title when Advocaat was the manager of the Rangers? lol
