So I've been bumping Malice and Wonderland (dope album, 8.5/10) and when that "Secrets" joint comes on I increase the vol. 5-10 notches and put that shit on repeat. The song is straight cali g funk and sounds like it was supposed to be on Tha Last Meal.
Snoop new album flopped trying to cross over with new hip hop so it just proves that mutha fukkas aren't checking for that shit. Give me an album of tracks all like Secret and I'll say fuck detox

LOL.
I stopped reading after this, cuz I knew it would be fiction/fairytales.

album is dope, he could have dropped doggystyle 2 and you'd still say it was wack, so just keep it moving

Nah Long Beach Iz Active, I usually enjoy your posts (well, minus some over the top bashing) because you don't hold your tongue but you are soooo biased when it comes to Snoop, it's quite hypocritical. The album is trash, with no real direction, just 12 random tracks thrown together. Snoop can still spit (2 Minute warning is crazy) and has the hunger and flow but he lacks the executive producer skills.

It's extremely wack, and I enjoyed Last Meal, No Limit Top Dogg & Blue Carpet Treatment, so keep it moving.

Yep.
It's quite hysterical that the most devoted Dre-basher on the board, is also the biggest... I'm gonna be nice, and say "Snoop-fan".

I agree with this for the most part except I enjoyed a few tracks off the album
Long Beach Iz Active what did you think of the track with Soulja Boy?

Long Beach Iz Active what did you think of the track with Soulja Boy?
soulja boy joint wasn't bad (better then most of the shit on the radio)
but let's really break this album down:
"I Wanna Rock" - 4/5
"2 Minute Warning" - 5/5
"1800" (featuring Lil Jon) 3.75/5
"Different Languages" (featuring Jazmine Sullivan) 3/5
"Gangsta Luv" (featuring The-Dream) 3.75/5
"Pronto" (featuring Soulja Boy Tell 'Em) 3/5
"That's tha Homie" 3.5/5
"Upside Down" (featuring Nipsey Hussle & Problem) 4/5
"Secrets" (featuring Kokane) 5/5
"Pimpin Ain't EZ" (featuring R. Kelly) 4/5
"Luv Drunk" (featuring The-Dream) 4/5
"Special" (featuring Brandy & Pharrell) 3.5/5
that's not bad album, and that's being completely objective
-
I'm gonna be honest and say Soulja Boy was not the wackest on the whole track and he somewhat "surprised" me, just certain parts ruined it for me, but Snoop did bring the best out in him I'll say that and that beat was fire
-
here is the truth with MOST people posting their opinions on albums (not just this album) on this site. You DL the album then play it on your shitty computer speakers and call it day
This album BUMPS in the car and really, I don't skip a track. When I saw there was lil jon track I was not looking forward to hit, but that track just knocks when in the car/good headphones or speakers

your obviously in your teens still, you definetly don't know the westcoast sound at all. with fans like you no wonder the west has stayed in the underground...snoop is finished musicwise he can still bang out a track here n there but he doing it for the wrong reasons now.
i mean yea the nigga tryin to feed his family n shyt so i understand but the nigga forgot were he came from..fuck it wat else can be said :-X

you must be stupid as fuck, because I say in the OG post that ONLY the track Secrets had that westcoast sound, nothing else. Now if you telling me that isn't a cali track then you got other problems

yeah, that's true and I think the same at times when I like a certain album and others hate on it... certain albums are for the whip/good headphones (ex: Snoop) and others are for when you are just chillin' or trying to get in the zone or at just in the mood for lyrics and thought provoking shit (ex: Clipse new album)
people simply don't listen to albums the way they are intended to be I guess

we obviously have different definitions of "getting sound back", I'm not talking about sounding "west" stupid nigga, I'm talking how DPG were some A-list talent in the 90's with the quality of work they were putting out, now all their shit is mixtape quality with a gem here and there
check ya own sig, you can see you losing right there

that track just knocks when in the car/good headphones or speakers

As for "Secrets," Snoop's flow on that track is not a "Cali flow" at all, so no it's not much of a Cali track. LMAO at you calling it g-funk ::)

just 12 random tracks thrown together. Snoop can still spit (2 Minute warning is crazy) and has the hunger and flow but he lacks the executive producer skills.
I agree with this for the most part except I enjoyed a few tracks off the album
Long Beach Iz Active what did you think of the track with Soulja Boy?
soulja boy joint wasn't bad (better then most of the shit on the radio)
but let's really break this album down:
"I Wanna Rock" - 4/5
"2 Minute Warning" - 5/5
"1800" (featuring Lil Jon) 3.75/5
"Different Languages" (featuring Jazmine Sullivan) 3/5
"Gangsta Luv" (featuring The-Dream) 3.75/5
"Pronto" (featuring Soulja Boy Tell 'Em) 3/5
"That's tha Homie" 3.5/5
"Upside Down" (featuring Nipsey Hussle & Problem) 4/5
"Secrets" (featuring Kokane) 5/5
"Pimpin Ain't EZ" (featuring R. Kelly) 4/5
"Luv Drunk" (featuring The-Dream) 4/5
"Special" (featuring Brandy & Pharrell) 3.5/5
that's not bad album, and that's being completely objective
your obviously in your teens still, you definetly don't know the westcoast sound at all. with fans like you no wonder the west has stayed in the underground...snoop is finished musicwise he can still bang out a track here n there but he doing it for the wrong reasons now.

The West can evolve and update their sound, but still keep a funky edge to their music. DJ Quik does it all the time, and so does Soopafly.

DJ Quik? He's one of my ALL TIME favs but he fell the fuck off, one of the saddest thing in hip hop history
The reason I say put evolve in "____" is because I'm talking about retaining that westcoast sound, when people cry about the west needing to change they are talking about west rappers giving up their signature sound and copy what's hot on the radios and 106 n Park

I agree 100% with you. I was speaking in general not specifically on the Snoop album. The thing about west coast rappers when they try to imitate the dirty south sound, 9 times out of 10 they do it worse than the South and it sounds awful. I'm just saying it is possible for the West to update their sound without losing its roots and gave a couple examples of some people who have shown they can do that.

I understand what you are saying and I myself am one of the biggest Quik fans out there and get discouraged with about half the stuff he does in recent years but about half of Blaqout was on some futuristic west coast shit. That's what I'm talking about updating the sound while still keeping it funky.
Westurn Union's song titled "Westurn Union" and also their "Cali Grown" track are 2 good examples of funky shit that doesnt sound dated. That's the direction I think the West should go in. It keeps its roots without sounding like the same old g-funk we have been hearing since the mid 90's.
-
malice wasnt THAT bad... i actually like a lot of tracks on it, secrets has a taste of g-funk to it, and it doesnt sound outdated..

The west does need to evolve its sound but that doesn't mean it doesn't have to turn into the shitastic South dedication that was many tracks on MIC. But i guess this isn't the first time Snoops had an album influenced by horrible southern artists
-
I AGREE WITH THE THREAD STARTER PEOPLE ARE SICK OF BULLSHIT BUBBLEGUM RAP. GUCCI MANE HAS BEEN HYPED UP ALL OVER THE PLACE AND NOW HES GETTING PUBLICITY FOR BEIN IN JAIL. BUT HE'S STILL PROJECTED TO SELL ONLY 80, OOO COPIES THE FIRST WEEK ACCORDING TO BILLBOARD.50 SOLD MORE THAN THAT SO TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT PEOPLE AINT FUKING WIT THIS BULLSHIT ON THE RADIO AND I BET DRAKE ONLY GOES GOLD.
-
if Snoop kept this album west he'd sell the same or more, so why even fuck with anything else?
-
Long Beach Is Active, dude, u gotta stop being biased when it comes to Snoop, he is without a doubt one of the best artists since forever, but with this album he just went the wrong way and fucked up. I mean its clear that dude is your favorite artist, there is too many of us here that feel the same and follow Snoop since day one, but what makes you a good fan is also ability to drop some real criticism when its time for it, and this is definitely that time. This album is too short, has too many weak songs, too many shitty cheap southern sounding beats, has no concept at all..etc etc. He should have stayed with the formula that he used when he made Last Meal and even BCT. I mean what the fuck was he thinking when he decided with his AnRs that songs like Protocol and Word Of A Gangsta wont be on the album, and put the crap like Thats The Homie on it. West/Snoop sound can evolve like dudes said but not like that, I dont want to listen some dumb shallow songs with cheap ass sounding beats on Snoops album, dude is too good for that, he proved it with songs like Protocol, Word Of A Gangsta, 2 Minute Warning, Secrets...
Songs that are album worthy are: 2 Minute Warning, Secrets, Pimpin Aint Eazy and maybe Different Languages....
-
just 12 random tracks thrown together. Snoop can still spit (2 Minute warning is crazy) and has the hunger and flow but he lacks the executive producer skills.
I agree with this for the most part except I enjoyed a few tracks off the album
Long Beach Iz Active what did you think of the track with Soulja Boy?
soulja boy joint wasn't bad (better then most of the shit on the radio)
but let's really break this album down:
"I Wanna Rock" - 4/5
"2 Minute Warning" - 5/5
"1800" (featuring Lil Jon) 3.75/5
"Different Languages" (featuring Jazmine Sullivan) 3/5
"Gangsta Luv" (featuring The-Dream) 3.75/5
"Pronto" (featuring Soulja Boy Tell 'Em) 3/5
"That's tha Homie" 3.5/5
"Upside Down" (featuring Nipsey Hussle & Problem) 4/5
"Secrets" (featuring Kokane) 5/5
"Pimpin Ain't EZ" (featuring R. Kelly) 4/5
"Luv Drunk" (featuring The-Dream) 4/5
"Special" (featuring Brandy & Pharrell) 3.5/5
that's not bad album, and that's being completely objective
your obviously in your teens still, you definetly don't know the westcoast sound at all. with fans like you no wonder the west has stayed in the underground...snoop is finished musicwise he can still bang out a track here n there but he doing it for the wrong reasons now.
i mean yea the nigga tryin to feed his family n shyt so i understand but the nigga forgot were he came from..fuck it wat else can be said :-X
you must be stupid as fuck, because I say in the OG post that ONLY the track Secrets had that westcoast sound, nothing else. Now if you telling me that isn't a cali track then you got other problems
nah u must the stupid one fool, read again what i wrote. he can still bang out a track here n there but he doing it for the wrong reasons now. the album has 1 or 2 westsounding tracks not good enough to bring the west back retard, why you think it flopped enuff said
yeah, you right nigga, Snoop flopped while Crooked putting out platinum hits
you right crooked as a businessman is retarded but we aint talkin about crooked we talkin about snoop right now, snoop had his run & he is a legend but the nigga is done period. he might as well go the 50 cent route n do reality shows n all that cause he done dadda as a westcoast rapper....but hey you never know also the nigga can surprise everyone and actually do it one mo time, he need to holla at tha dpg cause they did go back to their sound the right way ;D
dpg went back to their sound the right way? they are borderline embarrassing to listen to if you compare them to their 90's self. Snoop isn't done, if he gets back in the lab with the she thang he can put out another classic
The exact same thing can be said about Snoop. He will never be able to drop another Doggystyle - or even Doggfather for that matter, and in the past could drop classics on production from the likes of Hutton, Curtis Couthon, DJ Pooh, and other mid-market producers who didn't have the reputable mainstream marketable name of a Dr Dre, and the very fact that he'd need Dr Dre to make a classic song just shows how secondary his artist ability actually is these days

what the fuck are you talking about? last time I checked 2minute warning wasn't produced by the she thang

This thread doesn't make sense. First you say its bullshit for a rapper to evolve. Then you say its a dope album. LMAO.
To me, evolve means step your game up. If you're going to do something different make sure its dope. This album is Snoop de-volving.

it is a dope album, but he should of still kept it west
-
snoop needs dre, not so much because of his beats, but because of his direction. he will tell snoop to make his album sound a certain way. snoop has an arsenal of dope producers he can use to make dope westcoast beats like daz, soopafly, warren , battlecat, meech, dj pooh, LT , fredwreck & the list goes on , but he just needs someone with brains to tell him what to do. thats why dre is so important. dre needs to executive produce snoop's next album, and give him a few beats, and then tell snoop to get daz , soopafly n the rest of them to make the rest of the beats in westcoast style, and maybe a dj quik and terrace martin beat each aswell.

This thread is a train-wreck.
Not only stating that MNW is a great album, but the retarded quoting making it unreadable and the :catfight: argument going nowhere.
