Not always. I need to find the news story, but there was some Columbian drug runner who was an informant for the US government for years. They promised him US citizenship in the event he gathers evidence against Columbian drug lords and he did a good job for over 15 years.

When he wanted out, not only did the US deny him citizenship, but refused to pay him and now he has to hide from the US and the drug lords.

Snitching never prospers. Cam'ron is right.
