Comparing the Pirates to any big market team is a horrible argument.  The Pirates are the worst run organization in all of sports.  Now if you wanted to make an argument for a salary basement the Pirates would be a great example of team putting nothing back into the organization even though they're making out like bandits with revenue sharing.  But even than you have several big market teams withing 20 million of one another and than the Yankees 60-70 million above that.  To compare any teams spending habits to what the Yanks spend is ludicrous.  Just like it would be to take any big market team in baseball and compare to the Pirates for why the system in Baseball isn't fair.

how about the Reds?  the Padres?  the Giants?  the Marlins?  the Nationals?  THE PENNY PINCHER ATHLETICS?

lol come on now

in my opinion, i think the yankees and red sox are both within the rules to "buy" the best players.  but i love mocking the red sox fans who envy Yankee fans just like someone with $50,000 billion dollars envies someone with $85 billion dollars lol.

The teams you listed are better for an argument in regards to a salary basement which is needed just as much as a hard salary cap.  Except maybe San Fran.  But who wants to play in the gay capital of the universe.
