Do you own a Blu-ray player? If so, do you like it or not? Please share thoughts! ;D
I own one since Nov. 2008, since I live in The Netherlands (it was not very popular here until late 2009) I was one of the first people in my town that owned one. :) But now Blu is taking over I can see more and more people enjoying the HD-experience!
Since I already had an XBOX 360, I bought this the Panasonic DMP BD-35 (cheaper than a PS3):
Works fucking great!!!
I think Blu-ray is the future!!! I think in 2012 the DVD will be replaced by BD's. Maybe sooner in the USA...
In about a few years the Blu-ray Disc Association will give the green light so that the discs can be upgraded to 100GB per disc, or even 200GB if you're thinking about a dual layer BD! :o Would be great!!! I'm really enjoying the best format there is right now, and I will do so for the next 10 years! ;D
What do you think about it? Please share thoughts/experiences...

i don't get the hype tbh
a regular dvd is the exact same quality on my tv
-
Can't afford 1. I didn't even get a HD-DVD player back when it was available. I don't have a console neither. Can't afford em. So no.

Thanks for your honest replies!
The Bigg M-A-U: I get your point. If you don't have an Full HD tv, then it's not worth to spend money on a Blu-ray player. But maybe you'll be able in the near future to get an HDTV for a nice price... and once that is the case, I really can recommend it to you! Because the difference between DVD and Blu-ray is HUGE (Blu-ray is 5 x sharper than DVD) if you watch it with an HDTV. Once you'll see and hear Blu-ray movies like The Dark Knight, Terminator Salvation, Casino Royale, Quantum Of Solace and the documentary-box Planet Earth trust me you don't want to switch back anymore! ;D I said AND HEAR because next to the great picture quality, the audio is also fucking incredible! I never heard sharper sound-effects before on my 5.1 surroundset.... not even in a cinema! :o
Blasphemy: The prices will drop, just wait until the end of this year, and I'm sure you can afford a good Blu-ray player! It's really worth the wait and money! ;)

i have my PS3 and a couple of Blu-Ray movies..... while I agree that movies look fuckin Awsome on it... it is still too expensive both the movies and the hardware....im more into the renting movies now rather than purchasing... its not worth dropping 20 bucks for a blu-ray disc that i will only watch a handful of time ... id rather go the Red Box on the corner and rent a dvd for $1 a day.
Dvd doesnt look awsome like blu-ray does... but it still looks pretty damn good.

Yes I agree... I only buy the movies that I really want (The Dark Knight, Terminator Salvation etc...), movies that look and sound incredible! And here in Europe the Blu-ray movies are more expensive than in the USA... (about €30,- so that's $43,-... but sometimes €25,-/$38,-) so you're lucky! ;D Most movies I rent at the library, they provide all new movies, so it's cool! ;) I only buy a few movies from time to time...
But I'm sure the prices will drop in the future! :) The same thing happened with the DVD-format...

I own a PS3, and I love it. I share Netflix with a friend, so I get to rent BluRays unlimited each month. The service is fast too, I return a movie on Monday and I can get a new one on Wednesday. Plus, if I don't feel like waiting I can just download a 720p rip from a movie off torrent sites, convert it to make it PS3 compatible and I'm set to go.

That's cool! Glad you also love it! ;D Unfortunately Netflix is not ready for use yet in Europe. >:( They're working on it...
What movies do you think have incredible PQ (Picture Quality) and AQ (Audio Quality)? I already listed mine in the previous posts... ;)

This isn't a movie, but a TV show but it does have amazing picture quality plus it's great. Mad Men the TV Series
-

but my boy got a huge 60 inch HDTV, Blu Ray player, and surround sound system, can't even front that shit is sick especially with horror/action movies

Ok, I'm not familiar with that tv show... will check that out ASAP! ;D
Another great PQ and AQ quality tv serie is the Band Of Brothers box! :o
-
I want to get that Band of Brothers box, or at least get them from Netflix but these fucks still haven't added it on Bluray yet lol

Yeah that's fucking sick... I have something like that too! ;) ;D

Hahaha that's fucked up! LOL! ;D
It looks great (maybe a bit grainy... but it fits the war theme beautifully)! Not to mention the SOUND! :o
But the best sound I've experienced were the sound effects from Terminator Salvation and The Dark Knight... my neighbors thought there was a true warzone going on in my livingroom! ;D :D  Did you saw these movies?

Yeah I checked them out when they were in theaters. The Dark Knight is awesome, Salvation was okay although it did have some decent action sequences
-
DAMN!!! I just got netflix w/ blu ray access again cause I got another ps3 and now you can stream movies to your ps3 in blu ray quality for free! There is no catch w/ Netflix, it is truly worth every penny you dish out every month 8)
-
I got one and to be honest I have trouble just watching regular HDTV after watching a bluray. Tropic Thunder looks fucking amazing in blu ray.
-
i have one, i actually have the panasonic bd 30. same as yours i believe except without the internet capability.
i love blu ray. i love how crisp the picture and sound is. if you have the hd set up and surround sound there's no reason not to have one.

Thanx, will check that movie out for sure! Never seen it! :)

Yeah cool! Indeed, the version I have is one version later. At the time I decided to buy a Blu-ray player I almost took the bd 30 also! But then the bd 35 was released for the same price so I decided to take that one! ;)
Panasonic Blu-ray players really rule! They are the quickest and most reliable players out there! I never got problems with any movie! But I also keep the Firmware up-to-date, so I'm sure I'll never get problems with newer releases!
How do you upgrade your Firmware? Do you burn Firmware on a disc?
-
I don't own a Blu-ray player or even a DVD player. Don't even have cable for that matter. Just hook your computer up to your TV and you are good to go.
Just download HD Movies and TV series, you'll need a whole lot of hard drive space but it's still way more cheaper and convenient in the long run.
-
Only have a ps3. High def is something else. Picture is so crisp, don't have a sound system hooked up yet, so I can't comment on the sound quality.
Blue ray discs cost abit, I tend to get the dvd release of the same movie because it's cheaper.
-
I had a PS3 for 2 years but never actually watched a Blu-ray on it lol but when my parents decided to splash out on a new HDTV they got one and i've gotta be honest they're pretty amazing, i was actually surprised the first time i saw one because i wasn't expecting the picture to be that stunning. The only thing i hate is that Blu-rays are so expensive to buy and my local Blockbuster only has like 20 Blu-rays to rent so i mostly end up watching DVDs on it >:( lol

And with Blu-ray players you won't get a cool looking interface and set-up like this:

this.
i got over a terabyte of HD shit downloaded. only @ 720p cause my 32 inch screen isn't full 1080p. there's quite a bit of stuff that you can't get on disc yet anyway.
will get a blu-ray player and start building a collection before long though. and burning my downloaded stuff to BD compatible discs.
-

No, that's right. Where are these pics from? Netflix?
But on the other hand, watching movies behind your computerdesk is not as comfortable as sitting in the livingroom on a relaxed sofa! ;D

The pics are from Windows Media Center.
And I'm not behind my computer desk, on the couch, I have my computer hooked up to my 46" LCD in the living room.

Out of curiosity, why would you want to do that? Isn't it a pain in the ass to burn everything, you already have all the computer files ready to play and at your finger tips when it's on your hard drive.

so i can take discs downstairs to play on the plasma/blu-ray player that is not connected to a computer. i'd probably burn all the stuff i don't think is that amazing too so i can just delete it off my hard drive. and the best shit so i got some form of backups.

I see, I only have one TV so I don't have to do anything like that but if I got a TV in another room I'd get this: http://www.westerndigital.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveI=735.
It's a media player with network capabilities. You can access your computer(s) from it or hook up an external hard drive or pop in a flash drive. It's not bad for a $120 or so.
And I think it's probably cheaper to just buy another hard drive to back your stuff up than blank blu ray discs.

yeah i got enough hard drives already...nice to have some disc copies too. most of my 720p rips fit on a single layered dvd-r so inexpensive enough for the media. just gotta burn in the correct format so it plays on a BD player.

A few ways. I have an antenna, with that I can pick up all the network stations in Canada and the US in HD. The quality is amazing, the picture is better over the air than through cable or a satellite. Those 20 or so channels pick up a good amount of sports.
For baseball I'm going to get package on mlb.com where I get every game all year streamed through their website. I haven't had it before, I pray the quality is good or I guess I'll have to suck it up and get cable again because I need my baseball games.
The only thing I miss is the cable sports stations like ESPN, TSN, etc. If I can't pick a game up any where else I resort to streaming it online through sites like Justin.tv, sometimes the quality is decent but not too often.
Yup, my motherboard has an HDMI output, works like a charm.

so wait, its a digital antenna?, you dont have to pay monthly? does it only pick up like the standard non cable networks?

It's just like the antennas people put up in the days before cable came out. It'll pick up the networks like NBC, CBS, FOX, etc. but not the CNNs, ESPNs or HBOs because those channels don't broadcast over the air.
No monthly fees or anything like that, hell, you don't even have to buy the antenna. I made mine with clothes hangers and tin foil. http://uhfhdtvantenna.blogspot.com/

It's not a Blu-ray DVD but just a Blu-ray! Blu-ray is designed to supersede the standard DVD format. So please don't use Blu-ray and DVD in one sentence! ;D LOL! ;)
Let me give you one advice to convince you enjoying the HD-experience in the future: The Dark Knight on Blu-ray! :o :o :o It shits on all DVD's you've seen! :D
-
I've the sony blue ray palyer!
I didnt find any exclusive difference!
Like my dvd palyer! :o
