NEW YORK -- Tom Brady has gone from record-setting MVP to injured superstar to The Associated Press 2009 NFL Comeback Player of the Year.
Brady's strong return from a left knee injury that sidelined him for all but the first quarter of the 2008 opener earned the New England Patriots quarterback the award Wednesday. One of football's biggest stars, Brady has gone from NFL Most Valuable Player in 2007, when he set several passing records, to sidelined to earning his second league award.
"Well deserved. He's had a tremendous year," Patriots coach Bill Belichick said Wednesday morning. "I think we all know that Tom brings so much to this team and our organization -- on and off the field. His preparation, his leadership, his performance, his unselfishness. All the things he gives us are just top shelf. Whether he did or didn't play last year, the fact that he didn't I guess qualifies him for this award, but he brings those things on a daily basis, and they are exceptional."
Comeback Player of the Year
Voting for The Associated Press comeback player of the year award, as voted on by a nationwide panel of media members:
Player Votes
Tom Brady, QB, New England 19
Carnell Williams, RB, Tampa Bay 14
Vince Young, QB, Tennessee 7
Cedric Benson, RB, Cincinnati 4
Brett Favre, QB, Minnesota 4
Anthony Hargrove, DE, New Orleans 1
kind of silly, everybody knew he was going to put up his numbers; you should have to have played the season prior to even be eligable for the award.
i probably would have given it for Farve or Vince.

psh! Vince all day.

And people wonder why I rag on the guy. They praise him for nothing. I feel like I need to bring it all back down to earth. How do you get comeback player of the year when you don't even meet the expectations people had for you? They were trying like the devil to give him MVP starting with the Titans game and all the Brady's back bullshit. That was no way going to happen so they give him this. It's Vince Young no doubt. Because he came out of nowhere after everyone and their mother was writing him off and he exceeded everyone's expectations after sitting on the bench for like 20 weeks.

"they couldn't give him MVP so they gave him this".
reaching.

I'm not reaching anything. If NE was 13-3 they'd be arguing for it right now, whether Tom played any better or not. He simply does not deserve this over Young or at all. He did not meet expectations, plain and simple.

Wow what a joke!! Award should have went to Vince or Benson

Not surprising, they did change rules because of his injury.

Comeback Player of the Year is about playing better than the season before.
technically he played in one drive last year & this years numbers are clearly better than his one pass last year; so he SUPER-exceeded expectations after his one pass from last year. ;D

He had a perfect winning percentage last year and a slightly above average completion rating. Lots of guys had way better seasons this year than last. Brady was coming off back to back perfect seasons, and he ended up 10-6.

we talking about the same last season?
last season he was 7 for 11 for 76 yards and no TDs; i would say this season is worse than anybody else.

Hey, wins count more than anything and in 08 Brady was undefeated.

Not to start any shit but a lot of y'all saying "Young should have won" are the same ones who were shitting on him and me during the team's turn around saying he had absolutely nothing to do with it ::)

I never shitted on him. I just thought you gave too much of the credit to him. But that one drive against Arizona at the end of the game is enough to put him over Brady.
-
I would have given it to cadillac williams.Giving it to brady is such a fucking joke

well his stats were better this year than his 3 games last year.
but even with that being said, i still stand by comments on taking like 2/3's of the rest of the league's QB's.

He only played like half a game last year

My bad. I was talking meaningful games lol. He started the first game of the year and was awful before he left with an injury. He played mop up duty in our 47-10 victory over Detroit and played the final game of the year (we had already clinched everything possible) against Indy.
-
^oh, that does make sense lol.
