Crazy Dangerous (the only Nate Dogg song worth listening to)

Fuck outta here you faggot.

The double disc album had a few joints, and i mean a few...but music and me was awful...with that said he is the king of the hook, no rnb dude can and will ever be able to dominate hip hop from a hook perspective like nate dogg did...

Music & Me was wack but G-Funk Classics is real classic to me, no weak spots
Title: Re: Johnny J is the greatest producer of all time
Post by: ahmayheco on January 20, 2010, 02:59:37 PM
To clarify my intentions....The first comment i made was disrespectful to Nate dogg, and for that i apologize. He has killed more hooks than any other cat in history and for that alone he gets my respect. G Funk Classics was solid, and i believe that Crazy Dangerous is the best song off that album. So the comment aside, the post was suppose to bring attention to the greatness of Johnny J. RIP J!

in my opinion Big Stretch was a better producer than Johnny J.   i'm not even going to bring up Dre or Premo or RZA

Stretch produced:

-Pain
-Life's So Hard (OG)
-Bury me a G
-Only Fear of Death
-God Bless the Dead
-Under Pressure
-Holler If You Hear Me  (Both versions)
-Stay True
-The Streetz R Death Row
-Crooked Ass Niggas
-Crooked Nigga 2 (og)
-Tha Luntic
-5 Deadly Venomz
-Hellrazor (og)
-Judgement Day
-Enemies with me (og)
-House of Pain (og)
-Nothing To Lose
-Danger Times
-Street fame  (thug life version)
-Strugglin
-Don't Fuck With a Killa (og)
-Thug 4 Life (og)
-Flex

not to mention he produced "Take it in blood" and "silent murder" for nas.  and all the Live Squad classic shit...

i happen to be a bigger fan of Pre-death row pac...granted i love makaveli era tracks and all eyez era, don't get me wrong.

you can't fuck with the raw Stretch beats though.

Johnny J isn't even one of the top 10 greatest producers of all time never mind the greatest. No doubting he's good mind but lets not get silly!
Title: Re: Johnny J is the greatest producer of all time

Johnny J was great when he had the equipment/studio with high-spec equipment to work with, unfortunately with his own, and during his later years, his material wasn't as far polished as his earlier work, but his earlier work was incredible without a doubt, and he was a very under-rated producer. Had his portfolio allowed him to work with bigger mainstream artists after 97, and in top notch studios I feel he would have been considered one of the greatest very easily, because the man was talented, but because of the later material, I think many would overlook that statement very easily, myself included, but I do wish he would have been behind a lot more of the remixes that Amaru put out

Changing that subject entirely, and focusing on his type of production, his type of production was more genuine and musical than most types of successful producers - Hi-Tek, Storch, and so on, which those of us who prefer that type of production would rate him higher than those 2 I have mentioned.

On a personal note, I'd probably rate him among the top 10, but at the lower end

i dont like the word "underrated" - i think it gets thrown out there way too often.
when a producer, rapper etc gets punished wit the "underrated" title - it doesn't necessarily mean dat he/she is "underrated", just dat he hasn't been seen publicly in the media as much ur other typical media-whore - automaitcly, ur mind would then think he is "underrated" cause u haven't heard anybody talk about him/her, obviously because nobody likes him/her. when the true case is, dat he just isn't "availabel" as much as ur other typical star in the media-industry.. now why, he/she isn't "available" can be beacuse of even him/herself - the artist itself might've decided dat it doesn't give a fuck about it's career, just about the creative aspect of it

i think this sums it up good for producers such as Johnny J, Soundscannerz, FredWreck etc - they're not really tryin to do big things like dat, so dat's why u dont hear of 'em, and dat's why u think nobody likes 'em - so dat's why they're "underrrated"

and now concerning all this hype about Johnny J bein all great now all of a sudden, is a clear case of the "domino-effect" -- RAPPER/PRODUCER DIES - RAPPER/PRODUCER AUTOMATICALY BECOMES THE GREATEST THING IN THE WORLD half of u niggas wouldn't eyeball Johnny for a second, if it wasn't for his relationship wit Pac or beacuse of his recent death AND DAT'S A FUCKIN FACT

That's a good point.

I can however remember when Johnny J was trying to reach out though, and he was getting refused, and even from the likes of Amaru (though mainly Interscope) for offering lower end market prices for work on Loyal To The Game, and Pacs Life, and that was from a company/relationship point of view from a man who had previous multi-platinum success with the rapper that he was trying to negotiate his "cheaper" if not "cheapest" offer with, which was way below what others were or would have received anyway. Eminem was paid off of Loyal To The Game despite what is said about working for free. He simply done the initial beats for free, but received checks afterwards for the album nonetheless once sales gathered. Interscope obviously pulled the plug on Johnny J for more "popular" commercial names, but Johnny J would have loved to have worked on those 2Pac releases even at reduced cost, so the fact he gets the shut door treatment on an artists album from whom he made his name from, slowers his opportunity to keep his name relevant not down to his own choice, and pre-longs possible options from others if he hasn't been given the chance to work on albums he actually wanted to

But whose to say JAIL was the reason he killed himself. Just because that's where he was when it happened doesn't mean that it was the direct cause. Might have been some other shit going on that we don't know about. As it is, I don't know much about the details surrounding it.

inquiring minds want to know :D

Firstly Johnny J was never signed to Death Row, and was primarily 2Pac's own producer from his earlier years (Since Thug Life through Big Syke) and after All Eyez On Me dropped and achieved multi-planinum success shortly after it's release and when people realized that it was Johnny J and who produced almost half of the entire double disc album, he was getting phone calls requesting work. He had worked heavily with 2Pac in such a short period of time, he took time off, and was producing other acts at a more relaxed pace at a time when 2Pac basically threw out an albums worth of material in days. He was also after a different, darker sound, and Makaveli was originally intended as a street release with no big budget, so lesser known in-house producers such as Tyrone Wrice, Daryl Harper etc. were more appropriate for that reason alone. Daz wasn't even on there although he was around at the time.

& One Nation wasn't even fully completed, but best believe that after that was completed, he would have worked more with Johnny J & QD3, and I believe QD3 would have been apart of the Non-Stop Productions thing 2Pac was trying to create since he was engaged to his sister, and had already formed a working relationship with him.

2Pac wanted to step back, and had a few movie roles lined up for 1997, and only release albums now and again, and who better to produce than someone with the portfolio containing the likes of:

Life Goes On
All About U
Hit em' Up
Pour Out a Little Liquor
How Do You Want It

2Pac wanted to step back, and had a few movie roles lined up for 1997, and only release albums now and again, and who better to produce than someone with the portfolio containing the likes of:

Life Goes On
All About U
Hit em' Up
Pour Out a Little Liquor
How Do You Want It

well if Stretch was available I'd prefer the man who produced Pain, Bury me a G, Only Fear of Death, Under Pressure, Holler If You Hear Me, God Bless the Dead etc.

that hardcore Pac shit
