Next month, Death Row will be releasing a project featuring tracks Kurupt recorded circa 2002-03. Above is the artwork, and after the jump is the tracklist. Kurupt also announced this week (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5NI3jwdm_Y&feature=player_embedded) that the 4HRSMN (Kurupt x Canibus x Ras Kass x Killah Priest) will be reuniting for an album. Which would have been 10x more exciting if it happened 10 years ago. But Im still curious to see what they can bring to the table.

Why are we being reminded of this release again?

Since their first release, Wideawake/Death Row has been about as far from a perfect company as they could possibly get. From the problems that arose from trying to include unreleased Dre tracks on "The Chronic: Re-Lit," to the complaints about the sound quality of both "Chronic: Re-Lit" and "Snoop Doggy Dogg: The Lost Sessions," to that weird, slowed down version of "Natural Born Killaz", on the "Ultimate Box Set." But at least when Lara Lavi was at the helm, they tried to put out releases that they thought the fans wanted to hear. Sure, when the releases actually came out, they fell short of the vision. But at least Lara Lavi's Wideawake/Death Row were capable of thinking big. This release right here is an example of thinking small. This is not even trying. And this is about as far removed from anything that anyone would be interested in buying than I could even imagine.
-
Lavi gone??
-
Lavi gone??
Yeah. She was fired. They have court papers posted at the official website.

Nah, she was just like a public image type person.

I think she was more like the president of the company rather than the owner. I'm not going to pretend to be well-versed in all the ins and outs of what went down. But this
paragraph from the second document sums things up, pretty well.
"1. THIS COURT ORDERS that having been removed as a director and officer
of Wideawake Entertainment Group Inc. ("Wideawake Canada"), and further
having been terminated as a consultant to Wideawake Canada; and no longer
having any independent executive authority for Wideawake-Deathrow
Entertainment LLC ("Wideawake US") Lara Ann Lavi ("Lavi") is prohibited
from coming onto the property or into the offices of the applicants. This
paragraph of this Order shall cease to be of any effect on December 7, 2009
at 11:59 p.m., unless she has or has retained any authority in respect of the
applicants."
-
damn i guess....and who or why was that order put against her?
daz takin em to court? lol
-

I think Wideawake had claimed to have caught her in some embezzlement scheme.
-
OH :o
copied & pasted :o :o :o :o
-
What a bunch of bums, basically re-releasing a mediocre album with a shitty Petey Pablo song :camp:
-
This is the worst idea ever.
-
i doubt this would sell even 10 copies...
anyone who bought Against the Grain wouldnt waste their time on this. I for sure wouldnt.
-
lol the artwork would probs have kurupts head on naked chicks body inside the booklet or sumthn

Does WideAwake have an official forum?

Here's a link to the official forum. It's been pretty dead over there, lately. Hardly even any promotion for this album. Of course, how do you even try to promote a project that's this big of a turd. :-\

We should ALL sign up there and let them know they fuckin' up.

I will say this, I'm a member over there and there have been quite a few people on that forum (myself included) who have been vocal about how big of a mistake they think this release is going to be. So far there hasn't been any response. But then again, I haven't even seen a moderator on that board in nearly two weeks.

She did have to go. The only reason we are getting this shitty release is because of her.

those shitty releases were better than this junk about to be released wouldnt you agree?

The only thing I can figure is that some have said that Hyland selected the tracks for this. And I know that Lara Lavi was a supporter of John Hyland's. That may be what he means. But I've also heard people say that E1 (Koch) is responsible for this. I don't know for sure what's true, but it does match Koch's old m.o. of "repackage and re-release."
I seriously doubt that Lara Lavi is directly responsible for this release, because she had already stated in interviews that she wanted to start at the beginning and release projects in order. Also, those hacked pictures that leaked a while back seemed to indicate that she was planning on putting out the Danny Boy album next.

KOCH is jeopardizing WIDEawake because they will get a percentage of the company if X% isn't recovered. The reason Lara is behind this is because she has essentially blocked access to the catalog for WIDEawake, apparently. So, now WIDEawake must be relying on Hyland for his stash. Hyland was brought in by Lara.

Is she legally allowed to block access to the catalog? If this is true, I can see your point. Still, I thought Hyland supposedly had 1000 tracks from the vault. If that was true, I still don't see how this "Against the Grain" re-hash is the best they could come up with.

are those mad stretch marks on that girls ass?

I'd assume that they are going to attempt to stretch the remaining tracks over several projects if this is the case, that way they don't run through the material too fast.

I see your point, but damn. Hyland, who actually works for the company, knows that 3 out of the 4 "unreleased" tracks have already leaked online. So in effect, they're putting out a remake of "Against the Grain" with one unheard track. To me, their focus should be putting out albums that they can actually sell rather than worry about when the material runs out. I just don't see why anyone would buy this.
-
anyone thats dumb but isnt up on game and doesnt know whats goin on (didnt know this dropped in many versions years ago) will buy this, cuz its rap and rap sells and grabs the attention of kids and especially kurupt fans where they cant buy the other bootlegs
-

Damn. All they needed was to source the OG tracklist complete with disses, then include the other tracks as a bonus.
How hard can that be?

Not legally, but from what I have heard she's been on the run. Her and her husband got a divorce and with all her money - she's just basically running around the world. Lara actually made some decent moves for WIDEawake, but she complained too fucking much and on top of that, she was going to rip off the artists with bogus contracts. Remember when Daz was bitching about that 15 K deal for all services? It wasn't John Payne who offered that up even though she tried making it seem like that. Lol. Daz wasn't the only person who got offered that as well.
-

i dont think they even know !
-
This is clearly a release to allow a higher percentage of proceeds to help go towards paying back Koch however much they (WIDEawake) have borrowed, by re-releasing an album with 4 potentially risk-free songs in the mix, 3 of which have leaked already. So one previously unheard song? Anyone remember 'The Very Best of Death Row'?
