i mean, just sayin'? this isn't a fucka Ice Cube thread but im just curious. i mean, we all KNOW tha old Cube was the shit but is the newer "happier" Cube just as Listenable? i mean, i really wasn't feelin the corny rendition of that "kool aid" beat, the lyrics were okay i guess (typical Ice Cube) but it just sounds like he's angry and not even scary like he used to be... i mean c'mon back in tha dayz when u heard Cube u would be scared 2 run across this muthafucka at night but now (of course with age) he doesn't even sound like he means it. and i haven't even watch those PG flicks he made, i've just paid attention 2 tha albums and the comedy movies. Truthfully, Cube is still my man but i idk, i just dont find his newer material as listenable. not to say that its bad bcuz if's FARRRR from horrible but yeah, u get it

i did but after the first 25 spins it gets kinda old.

Yes, Cube does still have it. He's good at picking wack beats, but the songs of his that are good are really good.
-
Yeah some of Cube's tracks are a lil on the ehh side at times but compared to Snoop right now he sounds like Rakim. :o ;D
Nah but he definitely still got it after all these years.
-
Why do motherfuckers always bring up the 2 movies OUTTA HIS ENTIRE 29 VIDEOGRAPHY???? God anyways.
Hell ya cube has it. He's always strayed true 2 the game.
He stole cypress hills track for "friday" everyone acted surprise yet he clearly said on "Jacking 4 beats" al lthe way back in the 1990 that he'd jack a beat evne if your his friend.
Even 2day he's gone commercilized sound wise but his lyrics actually talk about real shit still. IMO this is why he's the only active N.W.A memeber that I think still got it. him and MC Ren (Even if Renincarnted was shitty quality, the lyrics and messaged remained on point).Dr. Dre used 2 say Fuck a Radio play, now his ass doesn't do shit unless he knows its a buzz now. Even with a buzz he'll restrain his own artist. That imo is a bitch move.
anyways, ya he's sounding laid back do 2 age and being a family man, but lets face it, everyone of us was angry as a motherfucker when we are younger.
-
yaah he is far from beeing a wack MC but I feel the same way..
88-92: Gangsta, Hard, lyrical, tight flow
93: one half-harted album, sounds a bit tired of rappin
96-98: Gangsta, Hard, Scary but not that lyrical, good flow
2000: Commercial, Softer, not very lyrical...good flow...Hello was dope though
2003: 2nd WSC album, Again Gangsta and Hard but not as lyrical or scarry...flow was on point
2006-Now: I have to admit I wasn't listning to his newer stuff that much, just ain't feeling his flow nowadays...thats missing nowadays imo, because he has good lyrics and I am not too worried about that gangsta shit when it comes to Cube...but please come back with that flow!!
-
would love 2 hear another album... he has been on point for his las t 2
-
Laugh Now, Cry Later was one of the best West Coast releases last decade.
Raw Footage was a good album not great.
Yeah Cube still has it.
Obviously not 1990-1993 caliber but he still nice with it.
-
he still got it.. he jus needs to be in the streets a lil more to make his shit a tad bit relevant...
-
yup, cube still has it.

wack IMO^^^^
but he can still spit that political shit
-
I think he's definitally still got it, his lyrics and flow are not the problem, the beats he chooses to rap over are. Sometimes Cube spits over beats that are boring or that sound like they should be on a south rappers album not on an Ice Cube album. If his last 2 albums had had more of that classic Ice Cube sound (production/beat wise) they could have been a lot better. There's something about the way he sounds over the beats on his last couple of albums that just doesn't seem right, over all though I think his last 2 albums were good. This is the same problem I had with WC's last album, the first half was tight, back to back bangers, but then I think the quality of the songs slipped on the second half (maily due to the production) and I though only 1 or 2 of those tracks were good. But I guess I'm just more of a beats man.
-
yeah im more of a wc fan than cube but the production on wc's album wasnt all good
this is l.a. was the best song IMO but the album wasnt bangin all the through
but cube n wc still got it
but damn another westside connection album is needed and not with game

The kid movies wasn't wack, in my opinion, I don't see nuttin' wrong wit a brotha exemplifying being a family man. Seeing in reality that's what he is anyways.. That's a good look. I salute that. Shows he's a real ass nigga. I can't see anythang being 'korny' bout doin' shit for kids. Cuz, if anythang, when he played Craig in Friday, being the 'goody too-shoe' of all 'em, leaned his 'hardcore CPT gangsta image', as niggas call it. Ha ha.
Nah but he definitely still got it after all these years.
-
radio tube you sayin this cuz you heard those 2 new joints? lol
and you werent feelin em?
-
I hope he still got it.them 2 new joints si wack tho.
-
Cube fell off before/after/during Predator IMO. Damn alot of yall wasn't even born lol
-
He needs to be pissed off, then he's unstoppable. He's got nothing to be mad at anymore; he's made it. So we just take what we can get.
-

-

I'm not a big poster but we should cut the kid some slack. He was 6 when Friday was released and 1 when Ice Cube dropped his first solo (again I said solo). Although I would like to know what he does consider good because Laugh Now Cry Later was great and I personally really think Raw Footage had some bangers.
-

damn skippy 8)

I think "Pushin Rhymes Like Weight" back around 1998 was the last time we saw Cube at his best. I mean when he was one of the true heavyweight's in hip-hop and still capable of making a huge banger. That track was hard as fuck!! The War disc he put out in 98 easily went platinum. Since then, he's became the black Chevy Chase, lol. But I still love Cube as a rapper and as a person, he's a West Coast legend.
As a side note I would like to see him do some edgier movies, or something that better expresses his association with hip-hop. I'm tired of his comedies.
-
Not heard any of his new new 2010 stuff thats knocking about, but I did enjoy Raw Footage. It had its weak spots but it was still uncut proper rap.
-

Bow Down of course. That was and still is my shit "3 time felons" = Hip Hop Audio Crack. But as far as favorite Cube album goes, I really don't have 1. I mean "Death Certificate" & "The Predator" gets the most burn but i tend 2 listen to all of Cube's work Pre-2000 so I really can't use the word favorite. I just wish Cube would get some better producers and maybe a writer (even tho that might be impossible due to the Ego but idk). Even tho it's not 93', Cube is still relevant, my nigga still hot, he just could use a lil' assistance with the flow and the lyrics and a better producer(s). And 4 tha record LNCL and RF were okay albums but they just didn't sound like Cube. Rappers always try 2 go 4 what's hot or atleast a rendition of it and most times the VETS can't always pull it off, they gotta go 4 what they know and what they know is that old skool shit and that's what they should stick too, it works 4 em and no matter how old they are it still sounds fresh. Imagine a Snoop Dogg album over some Grimey old Skool Herbie Hancock samples or Ghetto Dexter Wansel samples, shit would be crazy.
-
Raw Footage was solid but yer if you compare him to the top guy he was at the start of career he's fallen off a bit (could do with better production). But comon Cube at the start of career ranks as a top 5 rapper for anyone to maintain the standard he set himself with his first albums would be fuckin amazing

tru. Cube doesn't really fit an all out 808drum/computer software instead of hardware/cliche rendition samples unless new and different album
-
Cube's been missin that mud in his music and beats. where's the swamp nigga in Cube
-
i jus hate that him and others like snoop say they gon make westcoast muzik but then by the time the label is done wit it the album got lil jon, and soutcoast shit on it
southcoast shit is for that coast
or again unless you get a mannie fresh that can cook you some crack like connected 4 life
do that play that out there radio tube? connected for life?
-

he said he would prefer to do dramas, but comedies are the only opportunities he's getting. like they're the only roles hollywood are giving him. or something along those lines
-
