Title: Sandy Moss says he will not be back with the PAtriots in 2011

Moss says he thinks 2010 will be his last year in New England

Posted by Mike Florio on February 20, 2010 8:44 PM ET

After a season during which, at times, it appeared that receiver Randy Moss wasn't interested in being a member of the Patriots any longer, Moss said Saturday that he thinks 2010 will be his last season with the team.

Reading between the lines, we think Moss is hoping that 2010 will end up being his first season with a new franchise.

Moss spoke candidly regarding his situation to reporters at a charity softball game in Florida organized by former New England teammate Heath Evans.

'I don't think they going to extend my contract here," Moss said, per Christopher L. Gasper of the Boston Globe. "I understand the beast, the nature of it. I think that just with what I think and what I know I don't think they're going to re-sign me back. So, after this season if there is not a lockout I'll be looking for a new team. I got a lot of respect for the Patriots and what they did for me and my family. So, the only thing I can do is just play this year out and see what my future holds after that. "

It's not surprising, but it's still jarring to see the words. And it makes us wonder whether Moss is speaking out now in the hopes that the Patriots will decide to divert his $6.4 million base salary to defensive tackle Vince Wilfork and cut Moss loose now.

Actually, we don't need to wonder it. Moss essentially said it.

"You know the Patriots don't really pay, so when I got my second contract from them that was a blessing in disguise. I understand the business. I don't think they're going to re-sign me back. I'm not mad. I'm not bitter. It's just the way things are in this NFL, so like I said after this year I'll be looking for a new team. I think so. . . .

"That's not a knock on them. That's just how they run their organization," Moss added. "That's how it is. Put it like this, I guess that before I came there the philosophy was believing in their system. I think that's where they really don't pay guys because they have so much faith in their system. I didn't mean it as a knock against the organization. They just don't pay. If as an individual I'm not really in their future plans I would like to go elsewhere."

There it is. "If as an individual I'm not really in their future plans I would like to go elsewhere."

Though Moss was still careful to say he plans to play for the Pats in 2010, why would he want to be there if he thinks that he won't be there beyond the coming season? The genius of his comments could be that he's making it known now that, once he enters his lame duck year, he's going to play like a limping dog.

So where might "elsewhere" be? Feel free to call us crazy, but we continue to believe he wants to take care of his unfinished business in Minnesota, where he'd finally hook up with Brett Favre.

And what better way to get Favre to commit early to the 2010 season than to bring to town the guy for whom Favre pined before Brett's final season as a Packer?

So don't be shocked if the Pats decide that they don't want Moss around this year if he's going to have a stick buried in his butt, and don't be surprised if he trades in his 81 for the 84 he made famous a dozen year ago.

Revis has owned the guy completely

and now randy should be traded to bring in draftpicks IMO    belichick needs to send a message to the team that nobody is above the team

but WILL he?  who knows...the guy is losing it.

This makes me very happy. While coming to Indy to play with Peyton would be a dream it's wishful thinking. I guarantee he's already on the phone with Bret saying if he can get to Minnesota next year Bret should stick around. Can you imagine adding Moss to the current Vikings team if Brett stays. I still think if the Packers grabbed him in 07, which they could have, they'd have finished their season 19-0.

why? i only want to see "punts" on fourth down. ;D

i'd like to see him come to NY, just like everybody would say they would like to see him on their team.

the Pats are finished anyway, they can't win with their current defense; the offense hit their peak of absurd greatness & will only fall off from here on out.

Randy should just hop on a contender & get himself a ring.

Maybe in 2011, but I don't even think Bellicheck is daring enough to trade Randy to the Jets for 2010. I'm not sure NE with Moss beats the Jets in the East this year. No way do they beat them with out Moss and Moss in NY.

i doubt they would trade him within the conference, let alone the division lol.

but if we managed to trade for him for almost nothing & had Jericho, Randy & Braylon, it would be absurd lol.

with the Jets, i don't even feel the need to win the division, just getting into the Playoffs is good for me, we're a dangerous team for the Playoffs.

but to brag to the fam in New England & just for NY/Boston rivalry reasons, i'd love to take the division. ;D 8)

Moss is going to stay. Kraft will pay him. The Pats may be going for Ashumuga as well. If the pats trade wilfork for a good pass rushing de then watch out.

Tom Brady is above the team.  Belidick once had the nerve to say nobody is above the team but if it wasn't for Brady, he'd be fired again.  And 2008 doesn't count, the Ingratriots had a very weak schedule.  If they faced the afc & nfc south in 2008 without Brady they'd have double digit losses.

Yes they are.  No cap & they love to be cheap.  And the refs didn't make sure that they beat the Ravens in the playoffs which is a major shocker :o

If they traded Brady last year for some top defenders they'd have been just fine this year. The difference wasn't the schedule. No team was all that great this year. The difference was the defense in New England. And Tom Terrific's terrible performance in the playoff game didn't help.

Plaxico was unstoppable that day

They lost in OT with no Randy Moss. With randy Moss they would have won in regulation. As unstoppable as Plax was the Giants only scored 20 points in 60 minutes and the Packers would have scored at least one more TD with Moss in that game.

Against the inspired 16-0 Pack, no chance in hell.
