Title: The Real Reason Westcoast Hip-Hop/Dubcc has become a Bore
Post by: kyledonquan on February 24, 2010, 04:33:24 AM
The activity on this forum reflects the Westcoast rap game. Stagnant. I remember when there were colorful and exciting discussions about a slew of rappers & entertainers (Jayo, Mack 10, 2pac, E40, Crooked I, Snoop, Suge, Daz etc). Nowadays everything seems to be a bore. Nowadays everyone here is consumed with Detox, 2pac "re-leaks" and Game's backward career moves. The newer artists such as Nippey Hussle, Jay Rock, Glasses Malone etc seem to be victims of poor PR. There is no real promotional info out there on these artists. There are no marketing groups seeking to strategically build hype for these artists. Everything seems random.. everything seems to be a DIY approach which limits their promo/PR to mixtape releases.

Westcoast Hip-Hop isnt completely dead but its marketing/advertising is.
Remember guys.....No Hype = No Discussion.

The rappers themselves aren't consistant so there isn't really much to talk about. Even if they are, they're doing shit no one really cares about or can't be bothered to keep up with.
New West artists like Nipsey, Jay and them get support. It doesn't feel like it because everyone has a sense of doubt that they'll actually drop their albums when they have the most buzz. And when/if they do drop there's a new cat taking the spotlight. With the same fate awaiting him as well. The name Sly Boogy comes to my mind.
Though I consider Crooked I somewhat an exception though. He remains consistant, consistant enough to keep sites like TheBossBoard alive.

its not necessarily a marketing problem, artists like jayrock & nipsey etc have a strong presence on websites & blogs.
its just some of the people here who dont give unfamiliar artists a chance. they rather stay talking about 2pac leaks and other irrelevant things.

that is true my friend

Imo, it's been years since I've heard a new West Coast artist that I felt had talent.  And that's the real reason it's a bore -- there's nothing to inspire new discussion topics.

If peeps keep on posting about backinthedays shit, that's simple, that's becuz nowadays shit is at best average, when its not completely wack.

See Tupac threads popping up is becuz man got something to say.
Nowaday, beats can be banging, its all up to the artists to drop dope verses. If they talking shit, bitches, millions, whatyou wanna talk about ?

+
Also, I notify this when it comes to threads:
Too many threads R not informative the way they should be, 80% threadstarters be just writing one sentences & that's it. ---> how U want ppl discuss something, when subject is always 4-5 words ??

i told yall A LONG ASS FUCKIN TIME AGO that this board is crying 4 a throwback section, and the good people of dubcc backed it except tha Mods.  it's obvious and it's always been a fuckin fact that whether you're new to this or have been around 4ever that you're more prone to talking about tha old shit.  if the board was separated into an OldSkool/NuSkool thing then the newer homies from the WestCoast could get alot more shine without their new shit barely going up and down on the topic index in here in and out between the "Safe + Sound" sessions and the "Not Deez Niggaz Again" fantasies.  that's y nobody talks about em, it's bcuz the "new" 2Pac leak from 95' just looks more attracting when it's the topic above or under a Clyde Carson topic; and whole time everybody can see what's goin' on with Clyde but everybody is gonna migrate to those 2Pac leaks bcuz it's Pac and 9/10 it's some DeathRow shit that Dre maybe produced or had a hand in or somebody from the DPG was on with him.

throwback section 2010, i've been sayin it for years now... it's really that bad

of course ppl are always gonna take the time out to reminisce about 15 year old music, that shit should b a no-brainer.  it's a "remember your youth" thing that people have

it isn't really westcoast rap that has been boring but rap in general. a lot of overused bullshit that sounds very uninspiring. luckily you can still find some good music coming out if you look hard enough and have an open mind (a majority of dubcc should try having one of these)
