Title: DubCNN... my favorite site, yet my worse critics
Post by: Glasses M on March 03, 2010, 12:12:15 PM
Check this,

I AM NOT DISSING ICE CUBE........ I grew up off his music...... I got my style from the man! As I explain in every interview clearly, I just had a certain perception of who I would meet when I met him, and he wasn't it. That doesnt stop me from liking his music. I never called the man a punk or a bitch. I never disrespected him. I was just telling the muthafuckin' truth. I got every Ice Cube album, at one time I bought anything he was featured on. ICE CUBE IS ONE MY FAVORITE RAPPERS OF ALL TIME. I'm not saying he is a studio gangsta, I dont what the man did as a kid. Just saying meeeting him wasnt like meeting W.C. or Mack 10. They gave me this street aura, Cube didnt and it was disappointing.

Another thing, I dont regret making hit singles with Toomp, or Rick Ross, or Lil Wayne, or Birdman, or T. Pain, or Akon. I regret the fact that none of the producers out here could give me a hit themselves. I went to DJ Quik for hits and got nuthing... I went to BattleCat and got nothing..... I went to Rick Rock and got nothing..... I went to everyone out here and got nothing... 1 trip in with Toomp and I make a record that goes top 80 on the billboard hot 100 charts. I get Wayne on a song and it gets millions of downloads and over 300k singles sold. What I regret is not digging deeper for the new cats making hits. Like my new singles. Eastsisin' was produce by Tommy Gunz out of Los Angleles, and I get Doe was produced by The Cataracs who are from Berkley California... my third single is produced by Dem Joints. Thats what I regret. Not going with the new cats from the West. Guess what tho, I can fix my mistakes because i am signed to Cash Money Records.

Its a ruff ride in this industry. You say you want honesty and then bash the nigga who gives it to you. You say you want the West Coast to rise, but bash one of its brightest prospects. I get on this board and get accused of making fake accounts up. Nima, check ips, and tell these folks the truth. I aint a sucka, and I dont do sucka shit. This is my favorite site. yet this site goes the hardest on me

how can people not be the hardest on someone who is their risin prospect when that person went and made muzik that wasn’t what they were feelin?
If we don’t then its lyin and then you gon say well we didn’t say anything…so people speakin up and have been for years and its harsh? lol
you was makin dope joints....do we have to name em?.....you made em and you should know what you made and it jus so happens you were makin em before all this cash money bidness
and you should know what you made that was dope and what wasnt....but you went with what the label said
what happened when you went with what the label said?
what happened when snoop went wit what the label said?

what happened when you made dope muzik and the fans said what they said?
what happened when snoop made songs like pro tocol, world of a gangsta, fresh like me....etc...

you have a chart toppin song, what did that do for you?
And even if, even tho it didn’t, even if it did, that wasn’t muzik made for the coast your from, which is the same coast that heard of you first and was listenin to you first

big difference....now of course you gon get more money with cash money than on a indie tip or more money with dj toomp than a unkown westcoast producer but at least your makin westcoast muzik
but damn you didnt even push the single that was produced by mannie fresh and thats the best crossover song youve made to date
Crip Gang (Eastsidin') is better than any wayne, baby, huey, lil bow wow feature you have made IMO
so again we goin back to the basics again
why did baby/mack take you off big baller?

I find it weird that you can listen to cube and all that you mentioned but you wont work with him? You didn’t mention anything about wc but him included?
At this point in time, wc and cube are more important than mack 10

And you reaching out to bc, and westcoast producers…..thats sad but hey theres so many dope producers and it be impossible to not notice them and have to get a one way flight to the south cuz toomp was the only producer tryna get you a hit….
Aint nuthin better than a westcoast hit and again you had a bangin song produced by a southcoast producer

All I know is I wrote some Junkyards praising you back when I did my thing on the main page. I know this too, I am glad to hear you working with new producers. At it's best, the west was strong with producers. All my east coast cats couldn't even argue the west had better producers. So to put some of that new talent from and center instead of relaying on that old stuff is healthy, and if you put them on then you are truly helping the west. Get them heaters from that young blood. Hip-Hop is too old, it's time to get that young blood in and inject life to it. Feel me?

G it aint that I don't like your music - I do. And it aint that I don't like you personally - I do, you seem like a straight up dude.

Its just somewhere along the road you seem to have lost the aura of a winner that you used to have and made me certain you would succeed.

Perhaps if you didn't engage with the idiots on this forum (myself included) and were a little more detached, a bit more of a superstar, that would help.

I don't know but its like you've lost some of your shine.

I hope you get it back cos seriously I hope you succeed because I support the West no matter who signs the check and is on the beats.

P.S.

Malone, you had those treads when we could ask you questions on bubcc right?

I aksed you if you did something whit Kokane and Butch for the album and you sed you had joints whit both of them, when can we hear that shit? 8)

Anyways, i think most peoples in her understand the fact that music is music and 90% of all the rappers in the world are not the same person in there lyrics as they are in there privatelife. After all, its entertainment, so for me, if the music is hot, i dont care...

On topic:

The G.Malone I like: The tracks he did with Xzibit, Ras Kass, Butch Cassidy, Jayo, Akon, Mack 10, Statik Selektah, Ya Boy, Kam, Game + solo tracks with dope production. Not necessarily because most of them are West coast, but because they're all quality artists.

The G.Malone I hate: jumping on the so-called bandwagon, working with Lil Wayne, Baby, Rick Ross.. can't stand neither of these, they all sound terrible, they can ruin ANY track. Sadly, I understand this is where the $$$ is at right now, hopefully it's a trend that will end soon.

The problem with all these "New West" rappers is that they think the rap game is what it was 15 years ago or so.  They think they are going to come out and get some multi million dollar record deal and become a celebrity.  Times have changed.  People barely buy cd's anymore, AND the industry is straight saturated with people trying to put out a record.  Becoming a rapper now, isn't the same as when snoop dogg or ice cube entered the scene.

Even if a rapper is dope and has great lyrics, that hardly even matters.  Record companies don't give a shit about anything other than making profits.  And so these rappers want to make the money too, so they go and get whoever is hot and put them on the album.  Now, is that a bad business move?  No, of course not.  But does good music come out of it?  Not usually.

I checked out Glasses Malone on the white lightening mixtape, and I loved the song therapy music.  I also like that recent song w/ mack 10 and butch cassidy.  For the most part I don't like new rap music, and therefore I don't really check out the new west rappers, but I did like G Malone.  However I would never even care to check out new music collaborated with lil wayne, or these other guys who still sell records and are adored by 15 year olds.

Rappers who want to go the route of "selling out", that is fine...everybody's gotta get their money.  But there is opportunity cost with everything, and most the time with selling out, it is money over quality music.

I don't think most of the people commenting negatively ever heard the full interview with Joe Budden that this stemmed from ?
Malone clearly made the point that Cube was his hero and he was dissappointed when he met him. Some ran with the portion about Ice Cube and disregarded the context that this was said. If being honest makes you wrong, then fuck it....BTW thanks for taking the time to connect with this forum as many DO NOT.
Keep doing your thing Malone, you NEVER will be able to please everyone.

lol yeah thats exactly what happened. Aint got nothin to do with era. If an artist just stays true to his shit and keeps grindin like a muhfucka he will sell. Im sorry but I have to mention Lil Wayne in this. Not to say only SOUTH artists sell but that dude grinded like a motherfucker for 2 full years and he became a superstar while makin the same music he always did!

So can any other dude with talent and SOME main stream appeal. Just look at Ya Boy. He could have blowed the fuck up and now he has the chance again because he kept grindin. Doin WEST shit. IMO the quality dropped but he stayed true to his shit and now hes signed to Konvict, which I believe will let him do West music with few exceptions cause of how majors work.

in order to sell n do numbers niggas gotta adapt themselves to the rules of the game - hence, doin south-type-of-music and t-pain-featured singles. to be relevant, u gotta do relevant shit.
u CAN do only u, n still do numbers, but only if u manage to change the game n make niggas do u (the type of music u do) or by havin a big following.
every nigga u like, gon take this route - havin lilwayne and t-pain on there shit - whether it be glassesmalone or whoever - it's jsut the way it is. cus if they dont, they're fallin away from the limelight.

and lilwayne been a superstar since 1997, he's an o.g. - believe it or not. he became an international supesrtar 3 years ago, tho

2pac is a produt of the 90's

he was experimenting in 89 as a teenager.. he wasn't in the game in the 80's, he was doin homemade-tapes wit dat chopmaster dude..
mentioning "the lost tapes", like it was a studio-album.. lol
2pac came on the scene in 1991 wit that "same song" shit..

snoop was also doin tapes in the 80's, but he is still a product of the 90's - he wasn't in the game until he came in 92..

This is my favorite site. yet this site goes the hardest on me

don't watch the haters fam, most of the nerds that hate on you are just doing it to make themselves feel big like, like on some, "this is my chance in my shitty little rich life to diss a established artist and get away wit it", so its nuthin, don't watch none of that petty bullshit

on the ice cube stuff, i feel what your saying in terms of, people ask you a question about another artist and on top of that, its a artist that you've been listening to from day one, you see what i'm saying and still check for, real niggas will be real niggas and answer the question truthfully, no industry shit, but from a neutral position, if it was me, i know how sensitive certain mudda fuckers can be sometimes, so certain times, when it comes to bizness, in a bizness situation, sometimes it better to be a bit more political wit your answers and play the politricks of the industry if it ain't hurting your sales, because shit can get twisted, people could get the wrong idea thinking your dissing ice, you see what i'm saying

i mean it ain't like everyone don't know that cube was an affiliate to the crips in south central, he wern't a gangbanger or anything, he just came from a crip neighbourhood and ran wit real niggas and thats were it ends, i think everybody knows this, i don't think cube would argue to this either, i still check for cube for this reason aswell, he's a legend in the game

i understand that when your on a major, you have to choose and do singles that are going to pop off on a big boy level, to take your album sales to the next plateau, you see what i'm saying, i don't see nuthin wrong wit that, so long as the rest of the album is full of that shit that your grassroots fans were checking for you in the first place for, you see what i'm saying dawg, 'certified' was a big radio tune done wit integrity, it dropped, i can still listen to it, but i'm glad your going back to your roots wit the re-done album, here's some other westcoast producers that are coming wit that sick westcoast sound aside from dem jointz

dae one
f major
j steez
meech wells
treali duce(outta san diego)

anyway, much success wit your career, salute

Don't listen to the haters, a lot of them are Snoop Dogg groupies stuck in a '99 state of mind and won't accept your music unless its "Snoop Dogg Approved"

And for those hating on G Malone for the collabos with T-Pain and Lil' Wayne, you guys must be on crack. T-Pain and Lil' Wayne have been on more Viable hit singles in the past 2-3 years than any west coast artist in the past decade. If they wanna work with you are you gonna say to them "I'll past, I wanna keep it west coast" or would you use a little bit of common sense, realize they can help you build and expand your fan base and collab with them?

A Hit single doesn't mean jackshit when it comes to the core Elements of Rap and Hip-hop. Soulja Boy's single has proved this, sacrificing Lyrics in every form (Rhyme, content, meaning) and destroying production (Nothing innovated, nothing more then recycled sounds) and has managed to produce a hit. Mind u its a 1 hit wonder, and he has no leg to stand on as a artist. but a hit doesn't mean shit.

Makaveli's All Eyez On Me became his highest selling album, selling out his political endeavors, the pain he showed on his previous effort, and gave into the G-Funk gangsta Norm. Highly Acclaimed, highly successful with singles,  yet the topics have been covered already in The Chronic/Doggy/Dogg Food. Mind you, he did ass his usual Over the top Military mind, Fuck the world, Streets a Imperial war mentality to it, making his some what his own. It's nothing more though then a Glorified proof, that Critics nor Mainstream fans can't give a shit about Hiphop and raps core elements.

So in the end G Malone, u can have a billion hitz, but don't forget the roots. Cause if you forget the roots, you're nothing more then a fucking sell out. Know your roots, and you'll always get the west supports, and have respect. Sell out, and expect the same treatment of snoop. I respect snoop as a man, cause he still gave back, musically he's sold out, and in that aspect I have no respect for him, but he's managed to take his success and give back to his area and where he came up. Musically he forgot his roots, as a man his history has stayed with him.

Good post, but unfortunately in 2010, "core Elements of Rap and Hip-hop" don't sell the bulk of records, ringtones, downloads, etc. Wish talent would sell, but realistically it doesn't.

Fair play to Glasses for straightining a few things out.

The thing is when ever you meet someone you have looked up to and respected but not known, when you do meet them your gonna be dissapointed as you have made them into something they aint.

I cant stand how people call every critic a fuckin hater.  When somebody do somethin that someone else dont like....why that man gotta be a hater?  Thats not what a hater is.  That definition has been lost over the years.  People aint tryna be accountable for shit.  So when they put out...or participate in some bullshit....they justify it by callin the critics haters lol  Some of yall are fuckin trippin.

With that bein said...as far as any REAL haters go.  Embrace them muhafuckas.  When you wanna see how far youve made it....haters are your best freinds. Haters are your measuring stick.  The more successful you become....the more haters youll have.  So in turn...the more haters you have...the more successful youve probably become.
