Title: DJ Quik and the Talkbox
Post by: J-FUNKTION on March 03, 2010, 09:22:47 PM
imo and in many others that i know, it is agreed that, quik has one of the sickest tones ever on the talkbox.....i know a few years ago he said something about not doing it anymore (when he promised roger on rogers groove that hed keep it alive...meh not surprising, just another quik contradiction)..BUT if he were ever to drop a funky ass talkbox album..my god that would be sick as fuck..im prayin for it, though i know itll never happen..
anyway...besides the tracks on his albums...does anyone have a list of tracks where he has contributed to them via talkbox?

Quik didn't contradict himself. He just sees the game for what it is. All these niggaz out here T-Paining and Pain claiming it for himself (autotune). Yes, there is a difference between the two but the talkbox is the obvious father to autotune. If Quik dropped a talkbox track, all these stupid Kids out here ridding T-Pain and Lil Wayne's nuts with no knowledge of hip-hop history would think Quik was trying to copy them and do the popular thing that has a strangle hold on the hip-hop industry.

yeah, youīre kinda right here, in rap especially the misuse of autotune tries to emulate or be a new version of talkbox.

autotune was originally invented to help singers to hit the right notes , i know every fucking pop music album there is since the late 90s of even before has autotune. because many singers may have a good voice but hitting the exact right notes isnīt as easy as people think so autotune was made to help producers to save time in studio .
but autotune has this chance to "abuse" the effect, messing with the original voice and the sound comes out like you hear on these rap records.

akon for example half abuses autotune, he uses it to hit the right notes but to enhances his voice too in the process ( canīt stand his music though )
