Title: Let's get rid of socialism in the beer industry
Post by: Javier on March 16, 2010, 08:17:43 PM
Fuck the 3 tier system that has monopolized the beer industry. It's impossible for small breweries to get bigger.  That's why we're stuck with crappy ass beer most of the time when we go to the Supermarket.  And most of the have to choose between 4-6 different type of beers that are all the same crap but just a different name.  Bud Light, Bud Ice, Natural Ice Natural Light, Miller Lite, Coors Light, etc etc etc etc.  Gay gay gay gay.

These are just a few companies that could most likely get bigger but can't because of the three tier system.

Side note: I'm using socialism loosely, the same way how it's being thrown around these days.

Liquor stores carry less types of beers.  There are some rare liquor stores that carry really good beer, so there is nothing wrong with buying beer at the supermarket.

On price it goes like this from cheapest to most expensive

Sam's Clubs (or other places like this then it's Supermarkets, then it's liquor stores.

The trade off with liquor stores is that they're usually closer to you than markets, which is why it should be a bit more pricey.  Supermarkets can carry a much wider range of beers.  If the liquor store in your area has a good selection, guaranteed that the nearest supermarket has a similar or even better selection.

That's economics.  That's how those stores are for everything, including alcohol.

Quick example, 20 pack of Bud Light- 11.99-14.99 at the local supermarket.  That same 20 pack in the liquor stores cost you 18.99-21.99

you say it like all liquor stores are the same though. yeah you got your little convenience stores that jack up the prices, but then youve also got your known cheap spots with winos hanging out all day

Well of course.  Same way you can find good deals in supermarkets too though.  Tell me why the hell would I drive around looking for a liquor store with good prices  when I can go to the local supermarket and get a good deal.
