I say if you had to guess because I don't think anyone outside of the Aftermath camp knows for sure.
But I wouldn't be surprised if about a quarter of the beats on Relapse were intended for Detox at some point.
And I think this because supposedly Detox is going to have some of the most sonically 'advanced' beats we've ever heard. and I'd argue that 3AM has possibly the most 'advanced' beat I have EVER heard on a Hip-Hop record (not saying its the best beat ever though.)
We do know that "We Made You" was made for Relapse though. And obviously Beautiful was.
'Stay Wide Awake' and 'Underground' are so ridiculously next level that I really wouldn't be surprised if they were beats that were a long time in the making.. and were started in a detox session, before relapse really got going. The other beats are a little simpler though so I could see them as being made in a couple of weeks for Relapse.
Either way, Dre's most recent records (think Relapse, Hallelujah, and Refill) have an incredible sonic feel to them, so I'm excited about whatever he puts out next. I believe Catalina and About me were recorded in like 2005 during Rae's aftermath sessions, and psycho by fif and em is from like 2004 apparently, so I wouldn't judge him on those records.

Holy shit. That is fire. Didn't know the beat went to her, but that shit is hot.
-
i think most if not all the instrumentals were made with Eminem/Relapse in mind

Dre didn't do that one, same sample was used though

Stay Wide Awake was an insane beat, best i've heard IMO from Dre in years.

Aight, wiki says he did it tho. Who did it then? Whoever did that song, and 'Shittin on Em' by Rick Ross... Dre must be pissed at them lol, cuz shit popped off leaked and all the sudden two songs come out with that same sample.

3am is like the most simplistic, repetitive, generic shit ever. easily one of the worst on relapse and not a very good beat at all.

i would hope none of it.

i know i havnt been waiting 10 years for that second rate shit on relapse

Well... I thought relapse was great. lol. I know at least a few other people did... so yea.
either way, i thought the dre beats on BISD and OB4CL2 sucked, so hopefully those are not reflective of detox at all.

i respect your opinion on whatever you like, but personally i could not listen to relapse again, it was awful to me.. eminem has changed so much.. and been able to get away with so much any other rapper wouldnt of been able to.. the album in my eyes was just a commercial waste aimed at the new era of 13/14 year olds.. who are just starting to believe "cussing" is cool
-
hopefully none ...
-
hard to say but im pretty sure some of it was
-
yeah not a good beat at all...most of the album wasnt that good
best beat on there IMO was my mom

Underground. UNDERGROUND. i repeat: U-N-D-E-R-G-R-O-U-N-D. ONLY Underground. Did i mention Underground? ???
All of you guys are deaf or sumn.
High quality instrumental of Underground > Detox ;D

are you trying to say that you heard underground was for detox? Or are you just saying it was dope. Lol, sorry, didn't totally know what to make of what you said.
either way, interesting to hear that a lot of you thought that relapse was somewhere between wack and mediocre. I actually thought it was great.... but i'm not gonna sit here and try to force my opinion out there lol.
-
i find it really hard to be objective about the instrumentals on relapse cause eminem is so annoying on it. 'underground' really isn't my kind of thing but thats purely a musical preference/rhythm thing. i can understand why people would really like it, the production is very dramatic and big sounding. along those lines, the orchestra sounding beat on that slim da mobster video sounded way more banging imo.
on relapse though i think it would have to be 'bagpipes from baghdad' as the coolest beat 8)
but i don't really like the album on the whole. and the beats were obviously tailored to him, so i don't really feel it on any level.

actually, a lot of people on this forum like the album

We do know that "We Made You" was made for Relapse though. And obviously Beautiful was.
Beautiful was produced by Eminem.. not Dre
anyway.. Underground and Stay Wide Awake might fit the Detox concept.
-
Didnt like the beat for Underground at all. Not my style.
Same Song And Dance was my favourite beat from Relapse.
Cant see any of the production originally been intended for Detox though.
-
beats are definitly too weak for detox, except underground and maybe 3am they all sound like they are made for eminem (really his style), wouldnt really see them on detox or anybody else album

is it really that theyre too weak for "detox", or just too weak for the idea of detox everyone has in their heads because of all the hype over the years?
-
Reading this thread made me re-listen to Relapse, my favourite beats from the album would have to be:
Bagpipes From Baghdad
Stay Wide Awake
Underground
and special not to "My Mom", at first I thought the beat was pretty bland, but if you listen closely its amazing how much detail is involved. Another thing i noticed is how his accent slowly goes away from Stay Wide Awake, to Beautiful and then to Underground. Maybe i'm late with that but I only just noticed 8)
-
mr jas...you sayin my mom was dope or not? lol

mr jas...you sayin my mom was dope or not? lol
haha my bad, shit was dope man.

you think it was the best beat?
yeah i was tryna understand what you were sayin

Deja Vu was fucking nuts

Deja Vu was fucking nuts
my favorite song from the album. i liked relapse but donŽt bump it very often anymore . underground was a bit too massive for my taste , but still cool . bagpipes from baghdad-type of simple but catchy beats are more for my taste when it comes to em
-
bagpipes from bag...could have been better if he would have worked on that better....beat could have been insane...and that accent kills the song...but instrumental.... ;)
-

he flows nicely but yea, the accent is too much . iŽd love to get the instrumental
-
yeah...damn em ruins mosts beats...lol

shame..

dre is after the money...otherwise why would he give a banger to a overrated rapper? lol
or even worse...why work and why sign him over rakim, king t, rbx etc...why put so much focus onto em instead of other dope rappers?
yeah...damn em ruins mosts beats...lol
shame..

well i stick to 'too weak for detox', since dre have made better beats and from what we have heard arleady from detox leaks.. it just sounds less advanced.. but u're right tho, ppl dont know what detox will be like, but if u take those beats from eg. hp commercial it sounds really diffrent.. i just got the feeling its not the sound from detox
-
it's not just the money, i think Dre likes Eminem

i take Relapse' instrumentals over those bullshit leaks anyday: some of them aren't even done by Dre.

yeah tracks like 'og's theme' isnt produced by dre, by the ones used in both commercials definetly are.. and i found most of relapse instrumentals kinda too simple and not really that fresh as they should be, or else they were made for detox and its gonna be wack release, but i dont think so
-
Drop the bomb on 'Em and Deja Vu. Incredible beats.
-
NONE of those were intended for Detox. Dawaun Parker said in an interview that him, Dre and Mark Batson worked on those beats together specifically for Eminem, and that the beats done for Detox were more "soulful"
-
then why does dre put out a game, em or work with snoop and rbx, king t, last emperor or rakim? lol

None of the beats on "Relapse" nor "Refill" were meant for anyone but Eminem EXCEPT for one that I know of. And that was the beat for "Bagpipes from Baghdad" which was originally intended for Raekwon's OB4CL2.

i didn't say Dre doesn't care about success, but i think when Eminem stops selling, Dre will still work with him
-

Awwww man, that would've been sick.
-
There's more than the bottom line when it comes to Dr.Dre and working with artists. It's obvious he loves money and hip-hop and loves it when the two work together. Hence, Rakim didn't stick around because creatively they didn't mesh. Again, with Raekown, it wasn't working out because Dr.Dre got bored. So, yeah, man loves the dough but to pretend that's the only reason he works with Eminem is stupid.
-

When Hiphopdx.com did a preview for OB4CL2 about a year ago.... they said something like "and there's this one cut called 'About Me' where Rae spits over a beautiful, horn filled Dre beat."
and instead About Me was over an average dre beat with no horns lol. I can't find the link to that article, but can you shed any led on this?
-
co sign to what Rebel said. I think him doing almost the entire Em album was more of a set up for people to warm back up to his production and start the buzz for Detox. Same with 50's album but it ended up only having 3 Dre beats on it.
-
then why does dre put out a game, em or work with snoop and rbx, king t, last emperor or rakim? lol
He has worked with Snoop. He doesn't work with RBX, King T, Last Emp, or Rakim because they aren't on his label anymore. Eminem's album was one of the most anticipated on Interscope and he's an Aftermath artist so it would only make sense for Dre to be handling production.

^^^^that's not true: Dre gave RBX a beat for the X2 mixtape.
besides, Dre sometimes works with people from outside his label

This. I can guarantee 90% of the people on this forum are going to be disappointed in the album, regardless of how it sounds.

Awwww man, that would've been sick.
Imagine how much sicker it would have been with a reunited Wu Tang Clan over it, including the great Ol Dirty himself :o
