The guy just came into camp and weighed in at 290 lbs
-
easily lol.
i mean, he wasn't hyped up to be some future Hall of Famer, but for a number one overall pick, he was fucking awful.
-
The fact that he seems to not give a shit at all makes it even worse. He keeps getting fatter and fatter.Soon hes going to be big enough to line up as an offensive lineman.
I honestly feel bad for raiders fans.Al Davis is clearly insane and nobody wants to play for the raiders.
-
Could be. Tony Mandarich has definetely gotta be considered tho. I mean, he was considered the best offensive line prospect ever at the time. And has long been considered one of...if not THE biggest bust ever. Mandarich was a #2 pick....but SO much was expected of him. JaMarcus was never expected to be Joe Montana lol. But yeah...pretty much the entire world had Russell as the #1 overall pick. It was considered a no brainer that the Raiders should take him by people like Mel Kiper...etc.

Good...we need line help lol
I hate tho when people blame all of these picks on Davis lol. I mean, he's made his share of mistakes and he IS crazy...but EVERYONE had JaMarcus as the #1 pick that year. Every analyst on ESPN had him slated #1. Then, when he ends up a bust....they all disappear and act like the mistake was all Davis lol.

perfectly normal... :-\

Thats true but hes made plenty of decisions the last few years that make your head scratch. That receiver they recently cut that they paid big money when nobody even wanted the guy.Or mopre recently putting the highest tender on some 3rd rate player that nobody cared about.

Yeah. I think more of his mistakes have been thru free-agency then the draft even.

I kept reading Russell was working out, had a dietitian, was down to 240, was ready to do, leaner and meaner, and now is really 290. Okay, I've had faith in the guy, but it's time to pack up our losses, cut him and trade for a decent vet and draft Colt McCoy. When we drafted him, I was excited, but I had this feeling maybe we should have drafted Calvin Johnson and then taken Troy Smith later in the draft. Oh well, easy to say now.

Calvin Johnson was considered the most talented player in that draft...and there was TALK that the Raiders would go after him. But most analysts were mocking that idea...saying that it wouldnt make sense cus we NEEDED a QB far more then a WR,and should take Russell. The draft can be pretty hit or miss sometimes. You wanna see them go after McCoy? Interesting. When would they pick him up? Cus if they DO pull the trigger on this trade and take McNabb they would more then likely lose their 39th pick. Taking McCoy with our #1 pick is WAY too early....but he wont fall to the third round for us to get him their. I dont really like the idea of trading for McNabb unless we can get him to sign an extension...and I dont see that happening. So for me, Id rather see us keep our second round pick...try to make that trade for Rosenfels (which will be far cheaper then McNabb) OR take the 5th round tender on Troy Smith and get him in there. Then they can still draft McCoy in the second round if they want (assuming he is there at #39), and have him sit this first year. Cus I dont think he'd be ready to come in and run an offense immediately.

You might be right. I do remember the scouts laughing at Calvin Johnson, but even then I had second thoughts on Russell, but once he was drafted I was on board 100% because he was a Raider. Now, it's easy to say, well maybe that idea would have been better, that's the benefit of seeing it 4 years laters. Their were 2 concerns about Russell then, he was too young (he is barely 25 now) and for some reason he won one bowl game and out of no where his a better pick that Brady Quinn, who was the number 1 QB all the way up until that game. But every scout had Russell as that can't miss QB. So it's easier to say now.
I still like McCoy, I agree though his not ready right now. I think the Raiders need a veteran QB. I loved Dante Culpepper coming to the Raiders when they drafted Russell, but he was found to be too injured prone. The only way I trade for McNabb is IF, and I mean IF you want to keep Russell. Who knows, maybe this QB class isn't as strong as the previous years, you get McNabb and hold off until next year. I have no idea, but Russell coming in 290 pounds is highly disappointing. I've even heard rumors he hates being in Oakland and will basically keep this up as long as his in Oakland. Personally, you knew you were going to be in Oakland, have some damn pride in your career and yourself and get to doing what you do. But who knows?

Yeah. McNabb would be great....for THIS upcoming year lol. But face it...we arent looking to win a Superbowl this year. Just try to contend for a playoff spot. Its not worth losing TOO much just for one year of contention....unless McNabb will extend his contract with us. Then giving up a 2nd round pick would defintely be worth it. But Id be all for going after Rosenfels...or like I said, even Troy Smith. Giving up very little to get either. The fact that the Eagles just traded away Sheldon Brown could mean Asomugha is a possibility again in the McNabb talks. Which could be terrible.
Man, Ive even heard rumors that Al is in love with CJ Spiller. lol. If he goes and takes Spiller with our #1 pick...Im killin Al.

I dunno man. Im a die hard Raider fan....and JaMarcus is pretty fuckin bad. Ive always defended him as a Raider fan. Really, it was the worst possible situation for him to fall into. A QB that is still pretty raw and needs some polishing...landing in a franchise that is in turmoil at the time. The coaching staff is a revolving door, no consistency. A very polished QB coming out of a college would have struggled there. With that being said...last year.....wow. He was missing on the simplest patterns. Simple out routes...shit...even HB screens he was missing on. Dude needs a TON of work.

They just need to hire a GM to run the team...Al needs to just supply the money...and let go. Once he does that...the team will be fine. Or yeah....die...

I dont see mcnabb going to the raiders,Im pretty sure hes stated hes not willing to go there. And who can blame him.I think a great fit for mcnabb would be the 49ers,they need a QB now, they have a solid team but all their young QBs have been failures more or less.If he went to the 49ers they would instantly win that division now that warner is retired.
As far as the raiders, even if mcnabb went there it would be a mistake. The raiders needs so much more then a qb to even be competive. They need help pretty much every aspect of their game.Problem is they need a complete overhaul from owner to gm to coaches to players. As is,I cant see this team making the playoffs for the next ten seasons.

every aspect? Did u even watch them last year? Their defense is pretty good. Their running game is very solid. When Gradkowski played last year...they were actually a decent team. They beat Pittsburg, Cincy, and Denver with him. Its mainly Russell. Its been shown that adding a good veteran QB to a team typically adds about 6 points/game to the offense and 2-3 wins/season. Having McNabb would put us at a point of fighting for a wildcard. The only reason McNabb wouldnt be worth it...is cus he only has one year left on his contract. If we couldnt get him to resign it would be a waste.
-
I didnt watch every game,I watched bits and pieces the only full game I watched was them being raped by the jets 38-0.
But just looking at the stats and personnell they have. They were the worst team in the league against the run, teams literally run at will against them and that I remember seeing.Their O and D line ares atrocious. They have a bonafie star corner, but he only plays on one side of the field, and why would anyone throw against him when they just line their number one receiver up on the other side of the field and throw there.Or they just run the ball down the raiders throats all game. The defense is a mess, and their offense is a mess as well.they have no qb,no good running game,a mediocre receiver core.Just glancing at the stats their rated near the bottom of the league in almost ever defensive category, same as offense. This team could get mcnabb and still fnishs 5-11.They are that bad.

If you watch them, their defense actually isnt that bad. Their problem is that JaMarcus's play made the offense so inept...that the defense spent a ton of time on the field. The would get worn down throughout the game...thus teams would start to just pound the ball. Asomugha is pretty much always going to stick the number 1 receiver on the other team. You cant just line your number one up on the other side of the field...cus Asomugha will still stick him on that side. He isnt restricted to just one side of the field. With the right QB, the entire team will improve. The defense wont be on the field so much, the running game will have room to operate. As it is now...they usually run the ball very well for the first quarter or so. Then the defenses stack the line cus JaMarcus wasnt a threat to throw the ball and connect. When Gradkowski came in...he was a bit more of a threat and defenses had to respect him more...they couldnt SIMPLY crowd the line and stop the run. Imagine what a defense would do with McNabb back there...and a running game as good as the Raiders. Even ESPN was saying how this would be a better running game then what McNabb was used to having. The fit would be very good. The problem would only be whether they could keep him long enough to make giving up a 2nd round pick worth it.
You should watch em more man. Their areas for improvement are O-line...maybe D-line...and QB. At WR they need help...but they are mostly young. Chaz Shillens will be a good player...and Louis Murphy is only in his second year...he will be good. Zach Miller is an All Pro tight end. You cant say anything about their running game...cus it is SOLID. They just need a QB that can make defenses respect the pass and not simply key in on the running game.
-
why you blame him...the team is a bust..lol
-
why you blame him...the team is a bust..lol
have u been payin attention man? Do you guys have any idea how big of an impact a QB playing THAT poorly can have on the ENTIRE team? There is a reason why franchise QB's are so sought after. If you think the entire team is bad...u really need to step yah football knowledge up. Look how they played last year with just a QB like Gradkowski throwin the ball...and he's basically nothing more then a qualified back up. It was night and day with him instead of Russell. JaMarcus isnt the reason they have been bad during this whole stretch...but please believe he killed us last year. And they have a lot of talent being wasted cus the QB play wasnt allowing the offense to stay on the field for more then 3 plays at a time.
-
its everyone daygo...and ive been payin attention...but dont point it all to him...its everyone
qb needs the key players to make the plays....where are those key players to help him?
free russell
-
Well like I said I dont watch them too much, theirs only so much football one man can much lol.All I can go by is the stats and the limited time I saw them, and the 38-0 loss was pretty bad.But russell was awful in that game. And a qb can change a team its true but hes just one piece.Like I said, they need to overhaul the management of the team. They arent horrible on the field, but they just dont have a good front office to help them.
-
yeah aite russell aint that good...but to blame it on him which everyone has done...aint wrong
look at the niners they got dope players all around
rams, and raiders dont
-
The niners are a case of a team being one qb away from being a great team.
-
exactly....raiders are a full team away from bein a dope team...dont blame it all on russell..hes jus 1 player....
free russell....lol
-
al davis needs to fuckin roll over and die already raiders r goin no where it him in charge
and then his son will take over... :-X
That might be a great thing. Can't think of other sports right now where the son took over & team got better except for the Blackhawks. Bill Wirtz a cheap version of Davis, kicked the bucket & the sons took over & the Blackhawks are relevant again & so is the fan base. I thought at that time the raiders shoulda took jamarcus or joe thomas but they didn't cause of the oline bust from the big 11, Gallery. Maybe jamarcus woulda been different. And whoever compared russell to ryan leaf, there is a youtube video where someone calls him the black ryan leaf.

True that! If they wanna compete, they need OL, DL & an impact linebacker especially MLB which they haven't had in years. But the raiders love to bypass major need for years, even decades. The raider game I seen against Baltimore, they were competitive under Grad or the other backup, gave the Ravens trouble & worried me but when the QB was injured & Jamarcus came in, all the air went outta the balloon, team wise & fan wise & they lost. The players play better with the other QB's, they're not to fired up to play hard with jamarcus.
I read that fubu is making a comeback, maybe they can hire jamarcus to be 1 of their fashion models for their big clothing, & fubu made their clothes too big. Get him out of the nfl. He's good at dressing fly. And beating the archrival broncunts too, 3-2.
-
no footwork, fat and out of shape, cant move in the pocket..All he has is a strong arm, i know he doesn't have many weapons, but that weapons dont give you sloppy footwork and make you overweight..I don't know if hes the biggest bust ever, and he still has more time, but dude is def going down that road..
-
All this Free Russell talk is just straight bull shit. He would suck on any other team because he has no heart. A true QB with heart would at least try to get in shape and go all out to lead their team to victory.
-
free russell...lol

To think in that same draft the Raiders could have had AP or Revis.
-
you cant do that tho...if we would have picked etc...
how do you know if a player will be bad or good?
impossible IMO

With Revis you can't but for 6 teams to skip on AP is simply stupid. He was a huge star right at the end of the Bowl games and Oakland would have stood a much better shot at winning draft the best RB over the best QB and then signing a vet QB.

To be honest though, the Raiders main problem has never been Running Back. Even Fargas gets 1,000 yards on the Raiders. AP would have been unbelievable in Kiffin's offense, which was heavy run base, but then again most running backs did well in Kiffin's running game.

People love to use the words coulda/shoulda/etc cus like we all know, hindsight is 20/20. Once again tho, EVERYONE thought JaMarcus should be the #1 pick in that draft. Not just Al lol It wasnt just Al goin out and makin some insane pick. Our NEED was at QB, not RB. if we would have Drafted AP that would have been great...but at the MOMENT we would have been under a TON of scrutiny for that choice. Because RB wasnt a need of ours. The media would have killed us for it. They all agreed with the JaMarcus pick until he proved he cant produce...and cant lead a team. Then they all distanced themselves from it and made the Raiders look insane for taking him lol. Funny shit. If we pick up a decent QB out there...just any STARTING QB we will be drastically improved and more then likely compete for a wildcard. Im not saying we will get in the playoffs....but at least be competitive. Even with Gradkowski we COULD be competitive. There isnt one analyst out there that thinks the team is bad all around. Even on Charger radio down here they talk about the Raiders having a good young team....with just no production from their QB. And they HATE the Raiders lol

yeah they need to free his ass. Free him from his only opportunity to play in the NFL. He can take his money and run. But after what he's shown he's about (up to this point), he wouldnt be worth more than the league minimum to any team out there....if that.

It's so true. As I said, I liked Troy Smith, but then again everyone thought he'd flop in the NFL, but at the time Russell was such the real thing. No one threw as far, or as hard, and he lead so many comebacks no one thought heart would be his problem. Maybe a better O-Line would be better, but really as a young team the Raiders have so much potential. We are just lacking that leader to take them there.

what are you talkin about man? Hating on him for years? He was given the keys to the car last year...and drove it strait into a ditch. As a young Qb you should be constantly working on improving year after year. Especially as your are sitting on the sidelines and expected to be the eventual starter. He got his shot last year...and was WORSE than the year before.

true but hes been hated on for years....be real daygo...he has ive been listenin to the hate and its been years especially this last year...they got at him...did he perform well...NO
BUT AGAIN THE TEAM IS WACK OVERALL
what team has a young qb runnin the team and winnin games all by himself?
and maybe some players need more practice than others...they dont become peyton overnight...give him a break...lol
come on daygo im not a pro...but fareal....everyone was sayin if singlecherry dont win hes out...lol
they had a good team with a not so good qb...what happened?
anotha bust of a year....people have been hatin on russell for years...get ya money russell...milk that bitch
nah free russell as in stop hatin on him...lol
it aint his fault the team sucks and they dont have good players
free russell
yeah they need to free his ass. Free him from his only opportunity to play in the NFL. He can take his money and run. But after what he's shown he's about (up to this point), he wouldnt be worth more than the league minimum to any team out there....if that.
dude youre showing how much football knowledge youre lacking by that comment. Not one analyst would agree with you.
what are you talkin about man? Hating on him for years? He was given the keys to the car last year...and drove it strait into a ditch. As a young Qb you should be constantly working on improving year after year. Especially as your are sitting on the sidelines and expected to be the eventual starter. He got his shot last year...and was WORSE than the year before.
-
The fact that a journeyman guy can come on the team and already make the team look competent is very telling of russell.Hes a fucking bum and once hes cut from the raiders he will not be picked up by a single team in the NFL,hell I dont even think a team in the CFL will want him.
-
and thats cuz you downplayin...teams are readin through these forums....lol
talk good and maybe somethin different will happen off the field and on

Man u should seriously stop. If you think the team is wack overall...and would be hard pressed to find any professional to say the same thing...youre only gonna make yourself keep looking ridiculous on this one. I know for sure you dont really follow football by your comments. Its not that he needs to be Manning lol. The team has protected Russell as much as they could. They had to COMPLETELY simplify the offense just to give him a CHANCE to complete some passes....and he was still terrible. He was completely missing on passes that a good High School QB would make last year. The team other areas for improvement...but if you know ANYthing about football youd know for sure they would be a far better team with just a DECENT QB under center. Doesnt even have to be Peyton. Just somebody to make an opposing defense play the pass and not just stack the box to stop the run. We have a very solid rushing attack....but they can never run the ball cus defenses know that Russell cant complete SHIT. So they just force the Raiders to throw. At this point man...youre clearly just arguing to argue and arent making any sense
-
i know your a radier fan daygo...which is all good but hey...it is what it is...theyve been hatin on him for years
and nah i dont follow the raiders 100....nah but ive seen the hate...im talkin about the hate more than anythin...what he couldnt do or didnt do....not entirely his fault...take the money and run..like they say
either your talented or your not....but the hate on him has been strong...even you are...lol
its all good...i really dont care

See youre not payin attention tho man. Cus I been one of the biggest defenders of JaMarcus since he hit the league. I was one of the guys sayin "give him time", and that he needed an entire year working with the same team and coaches. But he completely let the organization down. Not just cus of his play on the field...but his effort in the off season. Successful QBs like Peyton, Brady, etc....those guys are the FIRST ones to practice. The FIRST ones in the film room watching tape. They are they leaders...so they have to lead by example. JaMarcus doesnt even have the respect of his teammates and he is the QB lol.
-
im payin attention somewhat...and the hate toward him is drastic and he doesnt have the help he needs
moreso a dope qb to train him than other offensive line players....but again you gotta feel bad for him....lol

I felt bad for him at first. Not cus of the players around him. Cus they obviously have a lot of young talent. I felt bad cus the coaching staff and system was always a mess. I stopped feeling bad for him when it was discovered he wasnt putting in any effort. Plus like I said, when he cant make a simple pass that a good high school QB would make. Thats inexcuseable. He doesnt need to be Manning for the team to be successful. He just needs to not be the WORST starting QB in the league. And no doubt about it...he is the worst. If he didnt have the kind of contract he does...he wouldnt even be a 2nd string QB on most teams lol. But the Raiders were forced to give him a shot no matter HOW bad he was cus they spent so much money on him. Once again homie...you gotta learn about football a little more. Im cool with u...but its clear youre just arguing to argue and arent making any valid points here.
-
again im tellin you i dont have any solid facts so like i said im goin off about the hate....he gets way too much hate....is that cuz he doesnt try, is lazy etc...i dont know
but the hate he gets is some of the worst hate ever fareal...so i never tried to make it seem like i was 100 with what i was talkin about...but the hate ive seen gon his way in last couple of years is up there...and this is what im tryna tell you...im not jus tryna argue to argue but my bottomline point is he gets too much hate and beyond the point of him bein wack....so i feel bad for him...im not a raider fan but damn the hate hes been given.....its like muffuccaz been had a buffet of goin in on him...no homo

JaMarcus wasnt that great in college. Dude had 1 great game to end his career against an AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL Notre Dame defense in the Sugar Bowl and People started suckin his dick. Before that he wasnt mentioned as the first pick..agsinst Florida he was awful in his 3 years at LSU, that should have said it all
-
he's up there with Leaf at this point, so far.... boy i hope Gradkowski wins the job in camp!

Yeah. The thing is, he was never considered the top TALENT in that draft. Its just that it was clear the Raiders needed a QB. It was either him or Brady Quinn...neither option has turned out to be anything to write home about. But the experts were projecting Quinn to be the second QB taken in the draft...byt the Browns. Then he slipped all the way to #22.

It would sure be nice if teams would stop taking QB's who are not all that right now in the top 5 all the time. No wonder Deacon Jones hates QB's.

Depends on the QB. Look at Peyton Manning, he was the number 1 QB of his draft, and so far he hasn't been that bad. Eli Manning as well, Alex Smith is getting close to that bust label, Carson Palmer has been a good pick when his healthy (trust me, as my fantasy QB he wrecks shop for my teams), Michael Vick was a great talent who did wonders for a horrible Falcon's team, but David Carr and Tim Couch both flopped hard. From the 80's to the 90's the number 1 overall pick for QB has been John Elway, Vinny Testaverde, Troy Aikman, Jeff George and Drew Bledsoe, not a bad mix, not a bad QB, and 2 hall of famers. Now some other QBs came in and did better than the 2 non hall of famers, but they were solid QBs. I think in a draft, you have to draft heart and work ethic, not just skill. It's been a common pattern in the draft the last 12 years, since Manning did better than Leif even though Leif was better physically. Quinn and Russell never really showed heart, and neither has done much since coming to the NFL. :-\

the thing is...the Raiders NEEDED a QB that year and they knew JaMarcus or Quinn would not have been around if they didnt take them with the first pick. So they were somewhat forced to roll the dice and hope it paid off. Obviously it didnt...but thats the risk you take.

no Alex Smith i starting to move away from that bust label...you catch any 49ers games this year? if so, you would have noticed that..He was very good when he replaced Hill, Not to mention the 5th o-cord in his 5th year, all that considering he did very well
-
if the qb counts so much....how come they replaced hill so quik n fast?
he won how many games...?
