wow this is crazy nice 8) 8) 8)
-
just about to check this out...havent been let down by this combo yet so ive got high hopes for this album 8)
-
i have to say I'm disappointed with this album, expected more for their 4th collabo. i'd even go as far as to say that its their weakest attempt to far. maybe its too early to judge since it took me a long time to like "3:16".
i had high expectations since murs announced it as their most west coast sounding album. but out of the 10 songs there's only about 4 i can really get into, the rest isnt bad at all but its not something that i see myself playing over and over.
"live from roscoes" with kurupt is definitely standing out, probably the strongest in my opinion.
"the lick" with verbs (had a good part) and "let me talk" with suga free are sounding real good too
"fornever" has a dope beat but i'm not really diggin kurupts verse, sounds like he was trying to hard (lil mama / no drama / osama / obama / lol)
i'll give it a few weeks and make another judgement.
-
I'm going to check this out in a bit. All of their previous releases have been solid IMO.
-
I really like the record so far and Kurupt is just raw on it! Making me just too impatient for Streetlights
-
Album is pretty good after the 1st listen.
-
Thanks for the info, + 1
-
sweet as!

wow...i would go as far to say its an early contender for best west coast release of the year....maybe not better than 'boy meets world', but daaaaamn good, like it more than sweet lord, but not as much as 3:16, which is a personal classic to me...it sounds to me like your more let down at the fact it isnt as 'west coast' sounding as you were expecting.....its good music period imo, regardless of regional sound

the sampling on here is bananas, 9th really comes through 8)

1. Fornever Feat Kurupt - 3.75/5
Classic 9th Wonder production. Uplifting feel good beat. Hard hitting drums with the sped up vocal sample. I love it. 2 of my favourite rappers on the same track. Just missed out on a 4 because it was a weak Kurupt verse unfortunatly.
2. The Lick Feat Verbs - 3.25/5
First thing i noticed is the drums bang hard. Sounds good on my Beats by Dre's. Topic doesnt really apeal to me as much though. Still a decent cut.
3. Asian Girl Feat 9thmatic - 3.75/5
Quality sample from 9th. Uptempo beat that gets the head nodding. You can probably tell what the tracks about.
4. Let Me Talk Feat Suga Free - 4/5
Another great sample choice. Interesting collabo but it works. Murs is relatable as usual. :) and Suga Free well...... Is Suga Free :D
5. Cigarettes and Liquor - 3.5/5
Funky as hell sample. I dont like the hook on this which brings the rating down. Might grow on me.
6. Vikki Veil - 5/5
Murs and 9th Wonder at their best. Murs with deep, personal storytelling about going out with and falling in love with a pornstar. And the shit that comes with it. My second favourite track on the album.
7. I Used To Love H.E.R (Again) - 4/5
Concept has been done loads of times. But it is a good track. 9th production is so consistant.
8. The Problem Is..... Feat Sick Jacken & Uncle Chucc - 4.25/5
The first single from the album. I admit i didnt think much of this when it was released a few weeks ao but since then its grown on me loads. Uncle Chucc drops a nice catchy hook. Dont really see the point in having Sick Jacken on this. Would have preferred 3 Murs verses.
9. West Coast Cinderella - 4.5/5
Murs back on the story telling tip. Smooth beat, very west coast sounding. And talkbox on the hook 8)
10. Live From Roscoes Feat Kurupt - 5/5
Awsome. Song of the year for me. Kurupt is alot better on here. My favourite verse on the album from Murs too. The production is outstanding. Drums are hard hitting layered with a piano melody, a vocal sample complementing a beautiful horn sample. Love when it kicks in at the end to ride out the album. Perfect.
Overall - A strong release from Murs and 9th. probably their second best collabo album after the classic 3:16. Very enjoyably with no weak cuts.

good review....i disagree with the some of the ratings but on point for the most part....and sick jacken's verse was ridiculous on 'the problem is', that was the point 8)

-
I will. :D comes out 23rd, in germany at least...
-
shit forgot about this, need to place my order.
-
first run through, album is fresh! production is as consistent as always, proper head-nod beats, and Murs lyrically drops some dope lines...
im gonna agree with Pauls review pretty much, Live From Roscoe's is the standout for me, its ill! dope horn sample, banging drums, nice piano loop, and Kurupt and Murs laced their verses! good candidate for west coast track of the year imo
-
suga free murdered "let me talk".
-
never really got into Murs, but Im listening to this album and its dope as fuck!!
-
album A&R'd by me, haha.

they sound nothing like each other. And Murs is doin a remake of the Common track. Kinda like Snoop did with Lodi Dodi.

yeah i noticed he just switched the last verse up and made it relevant which was pretty dope.
i still think they sound fairly similar

I think the album is pretty cool, a nice release for the upcoming summer.
"Live From Roscoe's" gives me a 90's feeling, same goes for "West Coast Cinderella".
Plus I gotta peep Suga Free for his verse on "Let Me Talk: what the hell are you doin to my impala?
lmao ;D
