In fact I rank it up with there was other cali classics like Restless. Suga Free was at his pimp best and Quik was dropping the heat and lil saccs too.
Still bump it to this day and it's still fresh
-
I've never been too big on Suga Free or heard any of his albums, or even solo tracks... would this be a good album to start with?

^ This.
New Testament was nice. Thinkin's my favourite track off that.
-
Street Gospel is his best album no question, a classic album by any standards. New Testament has a quiet a few fillers, and you could argue that the best tracks on that album are the ones produced by Saccs.
I would rank Suga Free's albums like so:
1. Street Gospel (10/10) - Classic, one of the greatest albums ever made by man.
2. New Testament (9/10) - Near classic, a few fillers.
3. Sunday School (8.5/10) - Half of the tracks are incredible, but it has a few fillers. J-Steez produced a lot of the tracks.
4. Just Add Water (8/10) - A bit different then his other albums, a lot of experimental tracks. Freeze from Morris Day produced a lot of the tracks.
5. Smell my Finger (7.5/10) - Suga Free on auto-tune, but very solid.
6. Hi Power Pimpin (7/10) - Has about 4-5 really good tracks, a few of them are amazing, but lots of fillers.
I really can't see how someone can't like Suga Free, he's one of the realest rappers in the business. Suga Free makes music the right way. Producer, rapper in a studio, making music. None of this 15 different producers shit, who've probably never met in a studio together. And IN ALL HONESTY, I would say his catalog is far superior to guys like Game, Xzibit, Snoop etc. Especially production wise, his albums always have tight production. He proves you don't need lots of big name producers to get great beats. Most of his albums are produced by one or two guys, which gives you a much more coherent album.
The thing I respect the most out of Suga Free is his music reflects his life and his experiences. Nearly every song he's ever done is about pimpin, and rightly so, that's what he's does. I hate the whole rappers who are just "reporters", or whatever. The Game is one of those rappers. If you ain't involved with drugs, don't rap about drugs. If you aren't a pimp, don't rap about pimping. It's real music, from a man who's not misrepresenting himself on the mic. He's the truth. Suga Free represents what real music on the westcoast should be, and how it should be made.

Nigga please
Xzibit
Dog, stoppit
Snoop
Doggystle alone > Suga Free's career

Better production that Game? Wow.
I like Suga Free but to me, he's better suited as being a featured artist on DJ Quik or Snoop Dogg's songs.
-
^ Usually I don't take Game fans seriously. The Game has poor lyrical ability, and half the shit he says is a lie. Snoop Dogg has a lot of bad albums man, Suga's catalog is much better, even though Doggstyle may be the best of all the albums. And the Game's production is really wack, Game's flow really sucks. If Game would actually work with a producer, instead of just using those same shitty beats Cool and Dre send him, his albums would be better. The Game sucks. All his albums suck. I don't even know why I'm actually typing. THE GAME SUCKS. He sounds the same on every track, and all his tracks are exactly the fucking same. None of his songs are even about anything. Every one is just random lines stuck together that don't add up or progress anything. He's the worst rapper on the west coast by far. I don't see how any self respecting music fan can listen to such commercial idiotic crap. Anyone who actually thinks the Game is a good rapper, is a fucking moron.
-
Woops I was gettin this mixed up with street gospel. New testament is alright. His first is way better.
-
street gospel is better then doggystyle.

props!
Any Suga Free album> whole game discography

street gospel is a bomb. i put it on the same level of doggystyle. Why u bullshit, rather give you my bitch... only dope songs on this record. A must have if you're a westcoast fan.
-

Gonna have to agree, Street Gospel is the better album. That one was all Quik/G-One/Bacon. New Testament had more outside producers. Wasn't "Cool" with Morris Day supposed to be on New Testament? Prince didn't clear the sample maybe?
-
street gospels the best bytches!!
-
Street Gospel was done in 28 days. Is his best album to date. Even Thinkin is one of the best Free tracks and isnt featured on the first album.
-
finally others agree with me that illmatic and reasonable are overrated and not all they cracked up to be

reasonable doubt is overrated that I agree with, but to say Illmatic is just shows how ignorant you are
-
off-topic but i also don't understand how illmatic is overated ???
-
Illmatic = GOAT
now lets keep talking Suga Free.
-
lol some of the comments in this thread just make me :grumpy:
as for Suga Free, i know im gonna take a lotta heat for this, but i have Street Gospel and The New Testament on the comp, and was never really blown away by either...i find his delivery and flow kinda hard to listen to sometimes :-\
if its worthwhile checking them out again then maybe i'll give them another listen
-

agree, but street gospel is still a classic. its much more to do with the production than suga free.

The production is amazing, but if you took Suga Free off those tracks, the beats wouldn't be half as good. The chemistry between Quik and Free is legendary.

naaaaah, not saying suga free ruined it or anything, but if you took him off the beats the instrumentals are still incredible.

LOL that was funny.
Both are good albums but not classics
its close to classic but not classic.
A Westcoast Classic is something lilke Streetz is a motehrfucka
-
I'm going to have to put Street Gospel back in the car again
-
Free's got one of those deliveries that has its niche market of listeners. Like the other guy said before, he found it hard to listen to his flow. Chemistry at its best is the result of Street Gospel. Those Q beats are incomplete without Free flowing on em talkin that pimp game. GAAAH!!
-
I'm going to have to put Street Gospel back in the car again
you ride a bike.
just kidding but yeah street gospel definitely a westcoast classic. "New Testament" is dope too, real close to SG, no doubt.
-
