Title: 10 Year Anniversary - Marshall Mathers LP thread
Post by: Larrabee on May 23, 2010, 03:21:58 PM
Can't believe its been a whole decade since MMLP dropped. I remember how crazy that album sounded the first spin around.. "Who Knew" is still my favorite joint off that album, really damn near all the material on MMLP is dope, maybe a couple of tracks throw it off but it's still a classic  8)

To each their own, but to me, this is the only certified 5 star banger from Em - Dre was in the "zone" @ that point in his career, Em had something on that album i haven't heard since, but w/e, and one of the rare "just press play" records where you don't skip anything - everything just flows perfectly

Best Eminem album. I remember Dre was saying this was the closest thing to a 'perfect album' that hes produced.

MMLP used to be my fav eminem album, but ive grown to like The slim shady lp more for some reason. Role Model and brain damage are probably my two favourite em tracks of all time. Although Marshall mathers off the mmlp is def in the top 5 :D

I can still bump from start to finish. Easily my favorite Eminem album. Obviously on this forum, there's a lot of cats who will disagree but to me, this album is probably the greatest release, artistically, from a Dr. Dre protege.

For real, this album is filled with classics. "The Way I Am" is still my favourite Em track to date, album is a 5 star certified banger!

Nice thread idea, makes me feel old though...  That album came out right as I was graduating high school.

I think the greatest compliment ever paid to this album was when Dr. Dre said that it was "The Closest He's Ever Been To The Perfect Album!"  That is such a great compliment from Dre for his work and Em's work on the album.

I remember when I first heard it I was totally blown away.  "Kill You" started off and Eminem was just totally going off on that track, it was clear he had taken rap to a whole nother level it had never been before.  Then "Stan" comes on, and you have possibly the greatest story telling track ever, over another MONSTER beat.  So your like, okay... no way he can top this, then a couple of bangers later he hits you with "The Way I AM" and your like, okay.. that's it... rap will never be the same again!

Good album but I didn't like it as much as some people. Great Dre production but Em just didn't appeal to me as much on this one as he did on SSLP, Infinite, or even the Eminem Show.

I always considered this album to be the "Doggystyle" to Dre 2001's "The Chronic", in which Dre dropped his record and then not too long after, his two biggest proteges left a huge impact with their own career defining albums.

Yeah, this album was the perfect soundtrack to the depression phase of my life that I had been going through from 97-2000... I like to think it gave me an outlet for my emotions because that was the year I finally came out of it.

I consider MMLP and Eminem Show both to be flawless albums.  MMLP is probably a little more historic then Eminem Show with tracks like "Stan" and "Way I Am", and the phenomenal success of "Real Slim Shady" being the perfect lead single that performance at the VMA's with all the Eminem look-alikes was classic.

I consider "Lose Yourself" and "8 Mile Road" to be Em's best songs but for the time in which it came out and selling 1.8 million first week at hieght of Napster I think that that was Eminems greatest moment of his carear was the release of MMLP, remember he was arrested that week for gun-butting that guy his wife was messing round with, and the Up and Smoke Tour and everything else that was Em's signature moment!

I can't listen to "Kim", it's actually quite irritating and horrendous to my ears. Both D-12 featured songs are mediocre and I actually always skip them not because they are wack but just forgettable. Those few flaws don't mean it can't be a classic album because the rest of the songs are pretty much all classic or at least great songs, by my definition classic doesn't mean perfect. Everyone has different opinions those are mine.

You give them same Dre beats to the majority of West Coast rappers and you get three 16-bar verses about smoking weed and lowriders, you give them to Eminem and he comes up with fucking "Kill You". Haven't heard too many people that Dre works with doing anything like that. If anything, I think he's one of the least reliant on production out there. Truth is most WC rap fans would rather hear some generic rapper from the Coast spit the same style then actually listen to someone who has their own style.

The production makes eminem? Not a chance....he can outspit 95 percent of rappers in battles and can turn around make stan which could possibly be the greatest story telling track ever in hip hop.And then turn around and make cleaning out my closet. Not many rappers have the diversity he has.

'remember me' was originally slated for dre's album, so i dunno how em had to re-record his verse cause sticky's wouldve been on there first

the time period between sslp and mmlp make those two albums those two my favourite albums ever. normally they'd be the albums that would end up being played over a 2-3 days period of hittin parties and clubs. dope times! i still listen to those 2 albums about twice a week each too, can't believe its been 10 years already for this album. damn.
