I'm starting to be interested in the movie rumor now if they say its going to be violent. What killed the movies they made was that they were campy and PG. How in the hell can you take a game which is popular for its high level of violence and blood and make a children's movie out of it?

Well, to be fair they were PG-13, although I agree with your point that they should not have been toned town like they were. It's was weird because for all of the grim anti-hero characters in both comic books and video games from the early to mid 1990's it seemed that at the time New Line was very reluctant to release R rated films based on them. That in itself is hard to imagine since two of their biggest properties were Freddy and Jason.They did the same thing with the "Spawn" movie though and watered down what should have been R rated material to PG-13. In fact, "Blade" is the first movie I can think of that came out on New Line which broke tradition and gave the audience an R rated adaptation of a comic book character. It seems like since that film came out more movie studios have been willing to release R rated movies based on comic and video game characters. But "Blade" is the first one that I can think of. I'd say that if they were to make a full length "Mortal Kombat" movie now, there would be a good chance that it would come out with an R rating.

Too bad they aren't using the same 2D style as the old MK games, still it looks pretty nice. That Kung Lao fatality at the end was brutal haha.
