Title: Fedor Emelianenko has finally lost
Post by: Halu Sination on June 26, 2010, 10:47:27 PM
His first REAL loss, as nobody took that loss from a cut seriously in 2000. He tapped out to a triangle armbar against Fabricio Werdum within the 2nd minute of the 1st round. Even though I bet against Fedor and made some pretty good money (Werdum was +425 on on the moneyline), I still have to say, I'm pretty damn speechless.

The sad thing is, Fedor was supposed to fight Overeem (an opponent who is generally considered far superior to Werdum), and I think Fedor would have actually won that fight. Fedor's biggest moments have always been against huge strikers with tendencies of getting overconfident.

Fedor struggled against Babalu and Arona, both of which are ground experts. I admit I thought Fedor would still win this fight too, but I don't know why so many people were instantly writing Werdum off. Hence the reason I bet on Werdum, I thought those odds were too good to pass up on.

Crazy fuckin day. You should've heard how silent the crowd became as soon as Fedor tapped.

Dana White has an ear to ear grin right now, and is probably already thinking of a way to get Werdum in the ring with a UFC guy than can clobber him.

It was definitely surreal for me. Considering the way things are going with his management I didnt think I'd ever see him lose. Crazy shit, the odds I saw had him at +350. Got caught up trying to do what he did against Big Nog, 1:09 was the official time.

No doubt Dana ruined whatever pants he was wearing, he's gonna have a fuckin field day with this.

LOL @ Werdum not wanting to fight Overeem next, take the W and keep it movin.

lol, no real need. Werdum fought in the UFC already, he came in after UFC bought out PRIDE. He did pretty well, but in his last fight, he got his ass kicked by Junior Dos Santos, and the UFC ended up letting Werdum go because they thought he wasn't worth the money. I'm sure Dana White is gonna milk all of this for what its worth.

I just saw it. Man Fedor just got hasty and stupid. He thought he had him dead to right and walked right into between his legs and even when he had a chance to get up and regroup he stayed on the position and kept up that stupid hammer punching. He should have let him get back up and knocked him down again. I really hate ground and pound in general. You may as well allow eye gouging.

Now I'm convinced Danny Hodge would have killed Fedor in a prime vs prime.

All that being said, you know he's getting the rematch and you know he's gonna kill this guy.

Yeah man, I think Werdum studied the fight against Big Nog and knew Fedor was going to go for the ground finish. But unlike Big Nog, Werdum was only playing possum. Fedor saw Werdum fall, and with his natural killer instinct, decided he had to finish the fight right then and there. Problem is, Werdum knew exactly what he was doing when he fell to the floor.

Yeah, Werdum was trolling Overeem pretty hard with the post-fight interview lol. But on the real, Werdum REALLY shouldn't rally for the rematch against Fedor. He fuckin beat the unbeatable fighter. Take the damn win and run with it.

Werdum sounded like he was saying he wanted the rematch with Fedor strictly out of honor, but in all honesty, he probably just thinks he matches up against Fedor better than he does against the Overeem of today. He brings up his win against Overeem from 4 years ago as if Overeem hasn't improved tenfold since then.

Word. Like I said, asking for the rematch is a poor move on Werdum's part. Fedor learned his lesson, he's not gonna make the same mistake twice.

Then again, Overeem would probably manhandle Werdum too. So who knows what's going on in Werdum's head.

The money is in the Fedor match. If I'm Werdum's management I know that this guy isn't the guy that gonna take MMA to the promised land and might lose his next 3 fights so I'd make sure that his next fight is the biggest ticket. Like when Rahman KOed Lewis. Everyone and their mother knew Lewis was gonna kill him in the rematch but I think Rahman made more money in that rematch than he did in the rest of his whole career.

Good point. Initially I wouldnt have thought of Werdum as the type to go straight for the money, but considering that he's also been seemingly ducking Overeem for a while, I'm guessing Werdum probably realizes he's not gonna go down as the greatest fighter ever or anything like that, so it's probably like "fuck a legacy, I'm going to get paid while I still can."

The money obviously. But without a rematch, Werdum will go down as a trivia question ("Who was that one guy that beat Fedor, but never did anything else?"). With a rematch, he has the opportunity (no matter how the odds are against him) of becoming the guy who beat Fedor TWICE. Imagine what that would do for his career. If he loses....so what. He is supposed to, and was never supposed to beat Fedor in the first place.

Begin the guy that made Fedor tap means a lot to harcore MMA fans but not much to most other people. In 1991 being the guy that KOed Mike Tyson meant the fucking world. James Buster Douglas; at best a below average fighter, but we'll never forget his name. He didn't need a rematch to make money because he killed a household legend in that 10th round.
