Seriously, over the last 5 years name me any rapper that has been iller than Damian Marley?
Welcome To Jamrock in 2005 and now Distant Relatives in 2010 have solidified him as the best rapper out right now! It's time dude started getting his props! I would like to say that people consider him a reggae artist and that that is why he is not regarded as a top rap artist, but unfortunately that is not true. Listen to a track like "The Master Has Come Back" and his skills as a rap artist are undeniable...
No, I'd argue it's because people are asleep and they can't recognize good shit when they hear it! That is the reason he's not gettin his props!
These bangers stand up to anything that's came in hip-hop over the last 5 years...
2005 Solo Album BANGERS...
"Welcome To Jamrock" 10 out of 10
"The Master Has Come Back" 10 out of 10
"All Night" 9.5 out of 10"
"Road To Zion" feat. Nas 9.5 out of 10
"Hey Girl" 9 out of 10
"In Too Deep" 9.5 out of 10
2010 Distant Relatives Album BANGERS...
"Strong Will Continue" 10 out of 10
"Promise Land" 10 out of 10
"Nah Mean" 9.5 out of 10
"Tribes At War" 9 out of 10
"Friends" 9 out of 10
"In His Own Words" 9 out of 10
...and even aside from the bangers his albums contain no filler!
-
he's no Joey Buddens
-
This isn't Nas gets punched in the face by a Jamaican, wtf?
-
I'm sure I read that his brother Stephen Marley writes most of his lyrics for him, their both good artists though

I seriously doubt that
-
I don't know how much of material he has wrote for him but the writing credits on his albums have a lot to do with his brother. I don't think it makes any difference though as Damian Marley and his brother Stephen are very underated imho.
-
when did he become a rapper? yell
-
rap artist?! lol wow
-
rap artist?! lol wow
Come on now, his specialty is a style called "toasting" which is basically the style of Reggae that gave birth to rap! Listen to his last two albums and you could easily classify them as rap as much as reggae.
-
What do you peeps think of Ky-Mani Marley?
His album Radio is quality 8)
Features include Mya, Young Buck & Gail Gotti
-
has anyone ever told you that youre retarded? oh wait...

yeh you could easily classify them as rap if you are some retarded teen with no understanding of rap music.
just because a dude does something with his voice that is similar to rap does not make it rap, ESPECIALLY when the music is not hip-hop at all. jeez this is the most retarded thread in a while. like ok lets say we agree he is a rap artist, hes still not in the top 100 rap artists of the last 5 years. lol, just lol.
-
Hes dope but not the best of last 5 years...but hes dope especially on them hooks

wait he's considered as a rapper? He's a reggae artist, but regardless he's talented and I liked him better than Nas on that album (though Nas did bring it as well.) This thread confuses me though...

I wouldn't unclassify him as a rapper. On most of his features he spits a verse. anyway iv been meaning to respond to this thread since it was posted.
But i somewhat agree with you Infinite. Hes been a dope artist in the last 5 years, a musician to watch for. You know he's putting his all into it if he releases it. He's a quality musician, he can sing and rap. Iv been bumpin Damian since 05, when I first heard "Welcome to Jamrock" (song) it blew me away. It had been a while since I heard a song with that much intensity, it reminded me of some early 90s shit. Iv had the album Welcome to Jamrock in my car for quite a long time and it still gets play, my son likes it too so thats always a plus. My favs on it are Welcome to Jamrock, There for You, Master Has Come Back, Road to Zion, Were Gonna Make It, Were Gunna Make It. Have you heard the bonus songs off it? Theyre all album quality too.
Distant Relatives is a good album, I can bump it straight through. It may end up a classic for me if it stands up against time. All in All Jr Gong is a great artist and is one to definently follow because you know it will be heat. He really knows how to put a show on too so if he comes to your town and want to be entertained GO.. Damian's also had some dope apperances lately, check these out:

NIce post, I'll check out the others you posted. I know he has a lot of other material I haven't gotten around to checkin out yet, and I also want to check out more of Stephen Marley's work. I'm just doing it all slowly, there's only so much good music to go around these days, I don't want to play Damian Marley's music out right away.
