Jewels In My Backpack slots-in well on the label known for classic releases from Tone Loc and The Pharcyde. "Zoned Out" is a true boomer, featuring a bluesy, churched-out organ and a coruscating lead verse from Kurupt of West Coast legends The Dogg Pound. As Kurupt ad-libs in the intro: "This ain't got nothing to do with the industry, this MC shit!" Frank explains how they linked up: "Kurupt had done a record with Slum Village so it wasn't like the Detroit thing is foreign to him. Me, I always loved the Dogg Pound's Dogg Food album. He told me: 'I appreciate you can rhyme for real!' Kurupt didn't want to do a fluff record. He wanted to RAP. " The result speaks for itself.

Yep, he just came in, listened to the beat for about 10 or 15 minutes and went into the booth. No writing anything down. Two takes and that was it.
