Title: The G.O.A.T has spoken
Post by: Controver$y King on July 19, 2010, 04:07:57 AM
Jordan wouldn't have called Magic, Bird

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5391478

Quote
Michael Jordan led the Chicago Bulls  to six titles. And while he had Scottie Pippen, there is little question the Bulls were Jordan's team.

So what does Jordan, one of the best-ever in the NBA, think of LeBron James joining with All-Stars Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh to form a super team in Miami?

"There's no way, with hindsight, I would've ever called up Larry, called up Magic and said, 'Hey, look, let's get together and play on one team,'" Jordan said after playing in a celebrity golf tournament in Nevada. "But that's ... things are different. I can't say that's a bad thing. It's an opportunity these kids have today. In all honesty, I was trying to beat those guys."

James, who played his first seven seasons with his home state Cleveland Cavaliers, was part of one of the most celebrated free agent classes in history this summer. He met with the Cavs, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, New York Knicks and New Jersey Nets.

James let the world know he was taking his talents to South Beach in an hour-long TV special on July 8.

TNT analyst Charles Barkley said James' decision may change his legacy.

"He'll never be Jordan," Barkley told 790 the Ticket in Miami earlier in the week. "This clearly takes him out of the conversation. He can win as much as he wants to.

"There would have been something honorable about staying in Cleveland and trying to win it as 'The Man' ... LeBron, if he would've in Cleveland, and if he could've got a championship there, it would have been over the top for his legacy, just one in Cleveland. No matter how many he wins in Miami, it clearly is Dwyane Wade's team."

Real talk from MJ or typical old man move?

No doubt that it's true, but the situations are not comparable at all. Bird and Magic were done when Jordan got it kickin'. They were never really friends, plus Bosh sure as hell is far far away from "goat"-material. Jordan's team was dominant enough... the nigga can't complain. Can't say the same for the Cavs, Heat or Raptors. Next season will show how the Cavs will suck major dick without LeBron while the Heat cruise through shit. The Cavs are gonna be sooo lousy... 60 wins? Never again!

Let's say the Heat do win a good number of titles and Lebron James is going to clearly show he's the best on the team (numbers and moments will show this), he won't be considered an elite player of all time?  Are people really serious about this shit?  Because most likely he's going to the same amount of Finals MVP too for the rings the Heat get.

he will be considered a great player but still with that help it hurts your legacy, he took the cowards way out,if you can't beat em join em, wade was suppose to be his equal and people looked foward to that match up and you run to his home, ol johnny gill ass equal is lebron, and the goat was wilt, jordan is just the man in the "highlight era", but i agree with him about calling people up to team up,you get players that's good but not other superstar's,and regardless of what yall say about bosh that equal led his squad so there fore he was one of the top 15 atleast players in the league, and people act like those bulls teams was so talented haha prove it, besides micheal and pip, kukoc was average at best, and steve kerr couldn't guard shit, luc longly? jud bushler.randy brown?bill winington? pete myers, stacy king? 106 year old cartwright? 150 years old robert parrish? 134 year old john salley? yeah great teams hahahhaha the heat team they got now got more talent then the bulls or these last laker teams had 3 all-stars you can pencil in for atleast the next 6 years and probably mike miller can get one? get serious my equal and they ain't even reached they prime yet? lets be honest, coward move but can't say that team ain't great on paper yell

Jordan shouldn't act as if the likes of Kukoc, Pippen and Rodman were the equals to Varejao, Mo Williams and Delonte West...

Neither is Bosh the 2nd coming of Duncan or Malone, let alone Bird.

@the guy who always says "yell" ... when Jordan retired for the first time, the Bulls still made the playoffs and won a series... let's look how the Cavs do without LeBron. Surely not as good as the Bulls did without Jordan.

In the Bulls first 3 peat, Horace Grant was more valueable to the team than Pippen was for 2 out of the 3 titles.  They were very close though.  It wasn't just Pippen and Jordan.

What are you talking about, moron? Your dumbness is getting too exaggerated, man, seriously. LeBron is in the exact same situation Jordan was with the Bulls...Jordan didn't win in his first 7 seasons, and was bounced in back-to-back years by Detroit. By that point, people questioned whether he could even lead a team to a title....do you think Jordan bitched out and bolted to another superstar's team? Do you think a player of Jordan's competitive nature would even have it in him to make such a bitch move? Come on, cham...your support of LeBron is fine and all, but you're going way past support with this dumbness.

i dont think hes saying lebron is wack...blame this on the media they are the ones that seek out jordans opinions every time some one makes the slightest little move in the nba.
niggas run to jordan like hes the last word on anything basketball related.

but its true though and no one can dispute that this will change lebrons legacy...i wouldnt give a fuck if he goes over there and gets  five titles hes never gonna be the captain of that team until wade dips out. he will never say he took that city and put it on its shoulder and took it to the promised land...and cats in miami will never fully trust that if the team dont perform he wont be out on the next thing smoking.

jordan had  the same desire to win that lebron does but he stuck with his team until they got it right and he set forth an example and a standard by doing that.

at the end of the day lebron sold himself and his legacy short....but can you blame him?

I personally do think this will hurt Lebrons legacy. Just based on fans perception of him. He will not be seen as great as he would have been winning on the Cavs. But I hate how people talk about competitiveness as if this has anything to do with it.  Like they say about the media (and fans as well), the only thing they like to do better then build someone up...is tear them down. No one has ever questioned Wade's competitiveness. Is HE any less competitive because of this? No. Lebron has mainly come into question because of this move. Does it change his competitiveness? No.

The only difference is, the bar has been raised. Lebron and even Wade arent just competing with the rest of the league to win a title. They are competing with other greats to cement their spot in basketball history. So now that they joined forces, the bar for them is just higher. Lebron will have to win twice the amount of titles in Miami as he would have had to win in Cleveland to achieve the same measure of "greatness" in basketball history. They are every bit as competitive as they were a year ago. The only thing that has changed is that they have put an amazing amount of pressure on themselves now. The world will be waiting, and even hoping for them to fail.

so if Lebron has 3 or more Finals MVP trophies by 2015, will he have a worse "legacy" than if he'd gotten his ass kicked by the Celtics or Magic every year? Be serious, please. There was no shot of winning an NBA title when Varejao is the 3rd best player. It's incredible how so many people ignore the whackness of the Cavs. They are a 35-win team now at best. The Jordan Bulls went to the 2nd round without him. How is that comparable?

Speaking of delusional, if you disagree with that, you're the exact definition of delusional lmfao.

The Bulls won after Jordan left, but they never won before Jordan came. But you also have to look at the mentality. Jordan never wanted to win with someone else, Pippen was perfect because he was talented enough to be great, but he was unselfish enough to let MJ get all the glory. Like Kobe and Gasol now, Gasol is one of the, if not the greatest international player outside the US, but instead of wanting that top spot he lets Kobe have it. Kobe had Shaq, and the last two year was carrying the team, but did want another superstar even though he came up with him. The old school mentality is that you win with a supporting cast, and you want to be the superstar. Now what LeBron, Wade and Bosh are doing is actually the old old school mentality, in the way of the Celtics of the 60's, Lakers of the late 60's/early 70's, the Lakers of the 80's, and that's sacrifice points and individual stats for the good of the team. As I said about Magic, if Magic was on a team of superstars in the 80's, and he was the best player, what does that make Magic? In the end the same will be said about LeBron, his on a team of superstars, and if he ends up the best superstar on that team, what does that make him? Face facts, the Heat will win titles, maybe not this next year because the Lakers just added a TON of depth that the Heat can't compete with. But once they get that exception money to go over the cap, then we'll see the Heat rise and win, and if LeBron is the superstar in a team of superstars, well what does that make LeBron? I don't think he wins 5 titles with the Heat, but I do think in the end LeBron goes top 10 of all time. Right now top 5 is on lock, Jordan, Magic, Russell, Kareem and Kobe, so I'm not sure LeBron reaches that. But Wilt (okay maybe not Wilt) Dr. J, Bird, Oscar Robinson, Duncan all look very reachable to LeBron, and I can see him passing Dr. J easy. But that's all in the future, right now lets see him win with the Super Friends.

I know LeBron was talking out of pure hype when he said this, but he said he plans on winning seven to eight rings; HOW WOULD THAT NOT put him in the top five?

Don't give me that "he needed help" because Kobe needed help, having Shaq was as good as what LeBron has now, you claim the Lakers are better, so Kobe's current staff is better than what LeBron has now.

Shiiiit, Kareem & Magic are in your top 5 (basically everyones) & they PLAYED TOGETHER.

Who cares how they come together? They played together & dominated.

Even Jordan had Pippen & Rodman.

So basically, there is no argument for LeBron not being considered Top 5, if he wins "seven or eight", ESSPECAILLY if they're in a row. :o

Dude, you repeated what I said in a way. Reread my post instead of thinking I'm some blind Laker fan. I said LeBron is following Magics path. Magic was on a team of superstars, Worthy, Kareem, and if he was the biggest star among the stars, what does that make Magic.  :o Same with LeBron. If LeBron does win 8 titles, then you have to put him in the top, no questions. Just because a Laker isn't universally considered the GOAT doesn't mean I'd be mad. Right now, I'm fine with Jordan being the GOAT. I like to argue Magic was a star among stars, but LeBron would be a star among stars so it changes everything.

Now I would not put LeBron in any top 5 yet, I mean his only 25. I never called Jordan the greatest until he retired the second time, because he was still writing his book. I will not put LeBron in the top 5 until he wins a title for one, and two he actually plays the games to be put up there. We are going off in 2016 we're calling LeBron the GOAT because the Heat won 6 titles in a row. Well before we start doing that, I would like to see it. As Michael Wilborn says, you can't depend on winning titles all the time, you have a short window. And in some cases you maybe the better team but something happens. Like in 2004, the Spurs actually might have been better than the "Super" Lakers, BUT Derek Fisher hits a lucky 0.4 second shot and the Lakers win. I mean until it all plays out you never know. D-Wade is 28, meaning he has 4-5 prime years left, and that might be the window LeBron is working with, or you never know about an injury and LeBron is the next Grant Hill. I mean until you actually play it out, you never know. BUT I WILL NEVER DENY LEBRON HAS THE POTENTIAL. He is by far the best athlete the NBA has seen. His like the Dr. J of this era, he does things no one else has seen. On top of that he has a jump shot, and is working on having the skills of a Jordan or a Kobe. LeBron could one day be the GOAT. But let us see him earn that title instead of giving the Heat the next 8 titles. You never know.

why do you conveniently forget to add Antawn Jamison, who was a 1st option all-star on his team before he got traded? LeBron coulda won with Cleveland (if he had it in him)...don't give me that bullshit, cuz it's getting really old.

so if Lebron has 3 or more Finals MVP trophies by 2015, will he have a worse "legacy" than if he'd gotten his ass kicked by the Celtics or Magic every year? Be serious, please. There was no shot of winning an NBA title when Varejao is the 3rd best player. It's incredible how so many people ignore the whackness of the Cavs. They are a 35-win team now at best. The Jordan Bulls went to the 2nd round without him. How is that comparable?

No...but his legacy wouldn't be as celebrated as if he woulda brought titles to Cleveland with a team built around HIM. The Bulls of the 80s woulda never made the playoffs without Jordan...Jordan didn't run away from the pressure and he didn't choose to leave Chicago after his constant struggles in the first half of his career.

He also never had a team mate fuck his mother.

lmao its fun to imagine that one of the old bulls players would be slingin dick to jordans mom...

Im sure this is the real reason Oakley was traded to the Knicks and Jordan beat up on them every year.

"You fucked my mama...now Im gonna fuck you!"

Look, everyone should know the real reason I'm defending Lebron; I want Peyton Manning to do the same thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shame that asshole has too much class. I'm still hoping Jim Irsay or Bill Polian have sex with Olivia Manning (or at least try too). The Peyton can do it and be the good guy. Maybe he can come to Miami too.

awww yes, there's always 1983, and Marcus Allen, then there's the fact the Raiders are unbeatable in Tecno Bowl, and I always love those 1998-2002 Raiders with Charles Woodson, Tim Brown, Jerry Rice and Rich Gannon. And the future looks bright after we got rid of the Sizzurp sipper. I wish Russell all the luck in the world, and for his sake I hope he gets clean, and has success with another team. But he really fucked the Raiders over 3 years of rebuilding.

You forgot about Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Delonte West, you can't forget about West... lol

And Kobe has Gasol, Artest, Bynum and Phil Jackson  8)

You are probably joking, but I only named the 2 top players. There were also better role players on those teams than Z and West. The Cavs completely sucked, only things good about them were LeBron and team defense. And their team defense went south when Shaq and Jamison came, two horrible fits for the Cavs.

Jamison can be a good individual player on a team that fits him. He was horrible on the Cavs. The main thing he can do is scoring. He plays no defense. Just like Shaq, a good player on paper, just terrible for the Cavs because he is not really motivated to play smart or hustle defense, and he clogs the lane, which is terrible cause LeBron loves the lane.

part of why Jamison sucks playing behind LeBron is because LeBron couldn't utilize his abilities...that's what great players do, though. they know how to get the best out of the talent around them, and Lebron simply isn't that player. Mo Williams is actually a GREAT complimentary point guard, LeBron couldn't utilize him...Delonte West is a perfect role player, LeBron couldn't utilize him...Anthony Parker is a strong veteran role player, LeBron couldn't utilize him...etc. etc. This is why LeBron tucked his tail between his legs and ran to a team where he wouldn't need to bring the best out of his surrounding players by leading them. You know it's the truth deep down inside.

It was a joke playing on the whole everyone is coming to Miami thing. As far as Peyton in Buffalo, yeah I'd take that above anything else. But it's simply not a possibility. Peyton might get fed up with that joke of an organization in Indy one day and leave, but it'll be to a big market contender. The Bills are just the Colts, except they play in the out door cold weather. Just get him on a team that can win some rings and I'll be happy. I have the rest of my life to cheer for the Bills. I only have 6 or 7 more years for Peyton to get more rings. So Manning wins out.

A full team will always beat a player in the NBA; that's what LeBron has fell victim too.

LeBron is the best player on the floor, no matter who they play, but his team doesn't help him & he loses because Dwight, has a full squad in Orlando & Boston has a deep ass team, the Spurs beat him with a deep ass team, when his second best player was Big Z.

The team's LeBron loses to in the playoffs beat him or play him significantly close in the regular season, where Peyton just shits on everyone all season long & then loses when the game means something; except when he plays the mighty Bear offense. ;D

He beat the number one rated defense on his own, but when it's all or nothing in the Superbowl, he's throwing INT's being returned for TD's.

He beat the number one rated defense on his own, but when it's all or nothing in the Superbowl, he's throwing INT's being returned for TD's.

He still plays better than his team does. He played better than Brees in this past SB and I'll stick by that until the day I die. He played better than Rivers in the losses against SD, and better than Roth when he lost against Pit. If the QBs were switched in everyone of those Colts losses the Colts would still have lost, and then some. But Peyton would be 19-0 in the playoffs.

In 09 they lost to the Saints because of bad defense and terrible special teams. One bad play by Manning, and two terrible plays by Wayne didn't help. Ask Sterling Sharpe, he knows when an int is the WRs fault. And after the INT Manning got them right back into the endzone and into Wayne's hands and Wayne didn't hold on to the ball. Does he get any blame from you?

The two years before that they lost to SD and they've been losing to SD since the 13-0 season when SD broke the streak. Then they lost to Pit who played the exact same game as SD played. And all three losses were by a hair. SD in OT, and the Pit game would have been won if Harper goes to the outside. Before that they lost to the Pats and they always lost to the Pats.

Now I'm curious. Who are these teams that Peyton slaps around in the regular season and then loses to in the playoffs?

You've got nothing to stand on Cham. Give it up. You defend LeBron the exact same way I defend Peyton. And guess what, we're both right. But you're too stubborn to admit it.

or only 3 years.
