Title: I guess Magic Johnson is "jealous" of LeBron too...
Post by: Sccit on July 21, 2010, 03:46:49 PM
Magic Johnson is also not impressed with LeBron James (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_dont_lie/post/Magic-Johnson-is-also-not-impressed-with-LeBron-?urn=nba-257330)

Apparently there is a new trend in the NBA — retired legends turned team owners speaking out about LeBron James'(notes)  signing with the Miami Heat. It's the sweetest thing to do this summer, cool dudes and dudettes.

First, Michael Jordan said there was "no way" he would have ever joined forces with two other superstars to chase a championship. Now, one of those guys Jordan said he would have never linked up with is doing the same.

From Bloomberg News' Barry Rothbard:

Basketball Hall of Famer Magic Johnson said he never would have joined with Larry Bird to win a championship the way LeBron James is teaming with Dwyane Wade(notes). [...]

"We didn't think about it cause that's not what we were about," said Johnson, whose Michigan State squad beat Bird's Indiana State team in the 1979 National Collegiate Athletic Association championship. "From college, I was trying to figure out how to beat Larry Bird."

Johnson's comments came during an interview Tuesday morning at Baruch College in New York, and they're just more proof that LeBron James' decision isn't sitting well across the league. Either they'll serve as motivation for the two-time MVP to prove the haterz wrong, or letting down his idols will damage James' confidence, sending him in to a funk. Considering he announced his free-agent decision in an hour-long special, I'm thinking the confidence will be doing just fine.

Of course, the only logical move now is for someone to find out what Larry Bird thinks about LeBron James teaming up with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh(notes). Sure, he might not own the Pacers, but he's got a high-level job with the team. That's good enough. The being-a-legend thing helps too.

LOL...I wonder what that retarded LeBron dicklicker is guna say.

Typical ass NIK moronic method. Acting like whatever anybody says against this is "retarded". ::)

1. Isn't it logical that legends would come out & speak against this, how they would "never" do it, under any circumstances; pretty easy to talk when you're 20 years removed from the league & you'll never get a chance again in your life to prove yourself?

I mean maybe not to a Laker-goggle wearing, Kobe obsessed, LeBron hating faggot like yourself, but the reality & the rest of the world, it makes more than enough sense.

2. Magic is a Laker at heart, he's OBVIOUSLY going to side with Kobe; he's been calling Kobe the greatest, obviously going against the only player in the league comparable to him.

3. Didn't you recently say Magic was part of big three, better than the big three of Miami? I mean, who gives a fuck how the players come together? If the Laker big three was THAT good, I guess we should take away from Magic's legacy too. ::)

4. If Magic was on such a "great team" (which he was), OF COURSE he wasn't going to leave to play with Bird. :stupid:

*waits for selective hearing to kick in*

Face it, you're mad that LeBron is about to win like 5 titles in a row & then your sick fantasies of LeBron never winning & using the SOLO argument of rings in your Kobe/LeBron debates will be gone. So you're jumping on this "LeBron isn't allowed to be talked about good now no matter how many rings he wins" boat so when he wins you can fall back on it.

You're honestly the biggest lame in the world lmfao.

Kevin Garnett said he would of done things differently in his career.. being traded to the celtics was the best thing he couldve ever have done. too bad it happened after 10+ seasons in the nba with the timberwolves. so you have to hate him also.

oh by the way Chris paul is throwing a kobe bryant 06-07 tantrum and demanding a trade lol

what he says its the truth, people like magic, bird, jordan can be proud of what they did cuz they didnt need a team full of superstars to do it...if lebron wins, its expected cuz with that team u better win.  So in the end, even if he wins it, people wont have as much respect for it.  end of story.  Nothing to do with hate or any of that, just plain truth.

LOL@butthurt faggots upset over Magic spittin the truth...it's not "logical" for anyone to go out of their way to lie. if magic and mj said what they said, they said it because that's what's on their mind...they didn't have a "secret meaning" behind it LMAO. that sounds dumber than the claim of Magic saying this "to side with Kobe".

Best Lakers of All Time

1. Magic
2. Kareem
3. Bryant (maybe)
4. Jerry West (maybe)

I think 3 and 4 could POSSIBLE be interchanged. But I think Magic and Kareem still have ahold of the top two spots.

On a side note, Id put Shaq up there probably at 3 behind Kareem if this was just as a player overall. But since its "Best Laker", I stuck with players who's names are synonymous with Lakers.

you're way behind, fella...the Laker Nation has acknowledged Kobe as a greater Laker than Kareem a longggg long time ago. Kareem was already winding down his prime when he was traded to LA....then again, you'd say just about ANYTHING to discredit Kobe LOL.

How does that discredit Kobe when most top 10 lists have Magic rated in the top 5 or 6 players all time? And obviously Kareem is a top 10 player all time. Typically West is even up there in the top 10. Him being behind any of those guys isnt exactly a bad thing. Its not like Im saying he's behind AC Green. lol. And you cant ask "Laker Nation" shit right after a title is won. Anyone with at least half a brain knows that people get hyped up over the present.

I told you that you were a bigger Kobe fan than Laker fan.

WTF are you even saying man? Magic is in "most" top 5 or 6 players of all time? If Magic ISN'T on somebody's "top 6" list, that person lacks any fuckin credibility in the first place...and no shit Kareem is a top 10 player LOL.. He's the greatest center of all time. I'm more interested in what the old guys that didn't win, and didn't win early would say to LeBron. If Larry or Magic had called Barkley, Stockton, Karl Malone, Ewing, etc over to their teams to play would they have said no? I want their answers.

And let's be real here, Lebron gong to Miami is not like Jordan going to Boston or LA in 88 or 89. It's like Jordan going to Detroit in 89 after the first win to play with Isiah. Now I guess it's different because they hate each other. But let's say Jordan and Thomas were buddies in the 88/89 season, Jordan finds out Horace Grant was sleeping with his mother, and after losing to the Pistons in the Eastern Final and frustrated with a young directionless coach in Doug Collins, Jordan gets a call from Karl Malone who wants out of Utah. And Isiah their buddy Isiah wants more than just one or two rings. He wants to build a decade long dynasty in Mo-Town. So Jordan and Malone join Isiah, Dumars, and Rodman and the Pistons win all ten championships of the 90s.

Now I'll admit, Jordan as a solo act may not have been as revered as he ended up. But those Pistons I think would have went down in history as the greatest team ever assembled. Isiah probably would have retired after 3 or 4 rings, and then it would have been Mike's team for the final 6.

This is what I feel the Heat want to become. Let's say the Heat win every ring between '11 and '20. It's a huge IF I know. I'm just saying, Lebron knows that that particular IF would erase all hatred for him. And I think that's what he's aiming for.

Redeem myself for what? For pointing out the flaws in your arguments? Again, there are several Laker fans here so Lakers topics tend to have more responses. Youve dedicated your entire life to increasing your post count on this forum, I would have thought you noticed that by now. There arent enough Spurs fans here to really hold down conversations about them. And like I said, Kobe could very well end up the greatest Laker ever. I never said he couldnt. All I said is that on most lists he tends to still be rated behind Kareem. At the very best, tied with Kareem. A big part of that is due to Kareem being rated so high on the all time player scale.

But he also won his first championship in Milwaukee and was the main face of the Bucks franchise, as opposed to being number 2 to Magic's number 1 when he was in LA...I have no problem with someone saying Magic is the greatest Laker of all time, but putting Kareem above Kobe on the all-time Laker list? just stop, man...you keep making yourself look more and more like a Laker hater over a Spurs fan...in fact, most (if not all) of your posts in this section are about the Lakers...at least when i post about the Lakers, I'm posting about MY team...you're pathetic LOL.

The board is flooded with Laker and Lebron threads. So yeah, a lot of people are posting in those threads dummy. You dont seem to notice that you talk about Lebron more than anyone here? lol

And what are you talking about?! Most lists ive seen always have Kareem above Kobe lol Even the LA Times did. ESPN did. Etc. Im not saying Kobe wont ever pass those guys. But he is FIGHTING for the #2 spot in Laker history. And even fighting for # 3 depending on who you ask since Jerry West is so respected as an all time great. Let go of Kobe's nutsack for ONE second NIK. Realize that there IS a world outside of Kobe Bryant. Youve always been a real fag when it comes to the guy...but man...its pretty creepy. Not to mention this new obsession you have with Lebron. Its not healthy man.

i talk about lebron no more than any other basketball fan in this section does...thats the biggest topic in the nba right now, surprise mufucka! so quit trying so hard to 1-up me LOL..makin you look childish as fuck, on top of ignorant. If you ask any sane person who doesn't hate Kobe more than he likes his own team (aka you LOL), they will tell you that Kobe is in the running for the number 1 spot in Laker history, not number 2...again, LOL@you. honestly, man, you're a fucking moron and your hate for Kobe surpasses any emotion I've felt towards sport teams/sport players...it's quite pathetic...make some posts about the Spurs (something you've never done), if you wanna SOMEWHAT redeem yourself :grumpy:

Redeem myself for what? For pointing out the flaws in your arguments? Again, there are several Laker fans here so Lakers topics tend to have more responses. Youve dedicated your entire life to increasing your post count on this forum, I would have thought you noticed that by now. There arent enough Spurs fans here to really hold down conversations about them. And like I said, Kobe could very well end up the greatest Laker ever. I never said he couldnt. All I said is that on most lists he tends to still be rated behind Kareem. At the very best, tied with Kareem. A big part of that is due to Kareem being rated so high on the all time player scale.

you keep saying "several Laker fans"....who are these "Laker fans", besides Mdogg? seriously, douche LOL...as far as I know, there are Laker fans who have stopped posting here because of dipshits like you (Antonio, Juronimo, etc.), so stop bringing that same lame ass argument every time i make you look like a dumbass, because it doesn't even hold any weight. stick to the fucking topic...oh wait, you have nothing to say about the actual topic! you never did LOL...and you're still a fucking idiot to think that people still rate Kareem over Kobe as a Laker...LOL, again.

Shallow is on point.

Not to mention, how can a Laker fan try to take away from this when the team that made the franchise as big as it is was three Hall of Famers winning rings?

Who cares how they come together? They played together.

And even Antonio used to argue with you sometimes cus he would TRY to be reasonable about the Lakers...and you would stay slobberin all over Kobes nuts instead of being real about your team. Its really some gay shit Scittles.

LOL Youre right NIK....nobody on this board is laughing at you. More of your delusions.

You and Antonio had mutual respect only in the fact that you were both Kobe fans. The dude was from fuckin Italy or some shit. But even HE would call Kobe out on a bad game and say he played like shit. How many times have you done that? Or has Kobe just played great every game and its never his fault...and we should all just leave him alone....like Britney Spears.

^76ers fan; love 'em. Can't beat most teams in the East, let alone the Heat & Lakers.

If it's a thread, we're entitled to drop our opinion on the situation.

Yes, but you can't compare the situations. Magic played with the best center of the decade. LeBron played with Varejao. He won the Finals MVP because Kareem couldn't play. If Kareem was at 100% all playoffs long, he woulda got the Finals MVP.

It's just laughable when Jordan and Magic diss LeBron (and not say anything about Bosh or Wade) while they have both been lucky as hell by playing in a nice city with a big and attractive market all carreer long and having their share of great teammates that won championships before. LeBron had Cleveland. And Varejao. No comparison at all.

See, the thing is I do respect Jordan and Magic.  And even on this subject, I understand where they are coming from.  I dont really like the move to Miami myself.  But its Lebrons choice and if he wins some championships no one can tell him shit.

But these guys are kinda making comparisons that dont make sense. Even fans when they talk about how Magic would never have joined Bird, etc. They are just being dramatic. As if Lebron and Wade had some sort of rivalry lol. Or as if Lebron was gettin bounced out of the playoffs by the Heat every year and he just joins em instead of trying to beat them. This would be much more the case if he decided to sign with the Celtics.

The stupidest thing about that argument is Magic won in his rookie year and Bird won in his sophomore year. They each had two rings by their 5th year and played each other in the final the 6th year. (And I personally feel that if Larry never got hurt they each would have had 4 going into the 89-90 season and played each other again for the ultimate tie breaker of team and player of the decade but that's just me). The point is Magic and Larry never had to face the frustration of Lebron, Wade, or even Bosh. Wade got one early but since then has had to deal with some clunker teams and Lebron's situation speaks for it self. I guarantee if Magic and Larry had spent the first 5 or 6 years of their career getting beat because their teams weren't so good, and let's say instead of LA and Boston splitting championships Dr J and Malone were winning em all and the opportunity to join forces was made available, they would have at least thought about it.

But MJ did have the same frustration. He could never beat that Pistons team, he had to go through those Celtics teams. In Scottie Pippen's rookie year, MJ had 32ppg, Scottie only 7. MJ's greatest help came from Sam Vincent. MJ stuck on those teams, and eventually got the right coach in Phil Jackson. LeBron's teams were better than  MJ's teams, lets not kid ourselves. The Bulls never finished with the first seed until the title years when Phil Jackson came into play. Then the triangle took pressure off MJ and allowed the teams to come together. Bryon Scott might have been that coach, and there was word saying Chris Paul might have wanted to join LeBron. I understand why LeBron did what he did, but lets not act like LeBron was getting shitted on in Cleveland.

I'm not saying he was shitted completely, but MJ wasn't being called the greatest player in the world those years he was losing in the 80s. It was an argument between Larry or Magic. When Phil got there (as head coach) he changed the team and by Phil's second year they won. If they had lost in 91 and Phil was fired and Grant fucked MJs mom, and Larry called and said I'm gonna retire soon and I want you to take my spot as the next great Celtic things may have been different. Or Malone and Stockton called, or if Barkley called and said Doc's gone you're Doc but better. Or Pat Riley called and said I'm going to the big apple to build a new dynasty, you want in? I think MJ may have had some thinking to do. But he won in his 7th year. In his 7th year Lebron went home in the Eastern Final and hung out in his living room with mommy and Delonte. Then after hearing about coach getting fired he gets a call from Bosh and Wade.

Magic didn't win shit until Kareem came, the best center of the 80s. Go figure nigga.

... you realize Kareem was on the team before Magic, right? And you realize Magic won the championship and the Finals MVP in his rookie season?

MJ did. Youre right. But 7even was talking about Bird and Magic. Not only did Bird and magic win early, they were in the two places you WANTED to be at that time. They were in premier positions for a player. Cleveland isnt exactly where you WANT to be when it comes to the NBA. And I give you MJ, because Chicago wasnt where you want to be either (back then) lol. but we have no idea what was going on behind closed doors. Its pure speculation on our parts. Perhaps its just Jordan being the ultimate compeitor. Perhaps its something else too. Maybe Jordan saw a light at the end of the tunnel in Chicago that Lebron didnt see in Cleveland. True Cleveland was winning a lot of games. But maybe Lebron (in his dealing with the FO) didnt see everything being done to win a championship. We all saw how Dan Gilbert acted when Lebron chose Miami. Its only natural to assume there was a problem there between the two. What owner acts that way?  Players have been chasing championships forever, you cant just condemn Lebron only. How close was Kobe to being traded? We damn sure know he wanted to be when he was unhappy with the direction in LA. Is he any different really? He just didnt happen to be a FA with the freedom to go wherever he wanted.

I think the main difference will not be seen until the end of LeBron's career when he gives his HoF speech. Yeah I dunno. He is so socially awkward. You can tell that he is constantly trying to figure out who is supposed to be at that moment rather then just being himself. Its almost uncomfortable watching him just do an interview lol

I just realized something when reading the thread title. It seems to be a rhetorical question implying there's no way Magic could be jealous of Lebron. Because he's Magic. But he is jealous of Lebron, and just about everyone else that isn't HIV positive.

Magic didn't win shit until Kareem came, the best center of the 80s. Go figure nigga.

... you realize Kareem was on the team before Magic, right? And you realize Magic won the championship and the Finals MVP in his rookie season?

We also saw how the Bulls acted when Jordan retired, they acted like someone stole their favorite Power Ranger toy. I think the main difference will not be seen until the end of LeBron's career when he gives his HoF speech. In Jordan's HoF speech, he was still talking shit about everybody, and people were turned off by that. Jordan is the ultimate competitor, He had the drive people wished all their star players had, and no one has had since, not even Kobe though he comes close. LeBron I'm willing to bet will thank everybody, in his MVP speeches he thanks his teammates, he wants everyone to be involved. LeBron is different than MJ in personalities, lets not act like MJ would do the same as LeBron. They are two different people.

So in other words. Kobe doesnt have the drive that Jordan does. Agreed.

damn...another shocker LOL

Maybe I should have worded that different. I hope Kobe doesn't become as big of a jerk as MJ. He is seen as a jerk, though word is that his calm that down. We'll see.

Yeah I dunno. He is so socially awkward. You can tell that he is constantly trying to figure out who is supposed to be at that moment rather then just being himself. Its almost uncomfortable watching him just do an interview lol

LMAO WTF

LOL@butthurt faggots upset over Magic spittin the truth...it's not "logical" for anyone to go out of their way to lie. if magic and mj said what they said, they said it because that's what's on their mind...they didn't have a "secret meaning" behind it LMAO. that sounds dumber than the claim of Magic saying this "to side with Kobe".

So was Magic spittin the truth when he said Lebron was the best player in the world? Or just on this issue?

just on this issue

Cavs with Lebron were never a top 2 team defensively according to basketball reference...they were 3rd best once but also had years where they were 14th and 19th defensively (and i'm only counting playoff Cav years)

meanwhile Lebron was stuck playing with bums like Eric Snow, Larry Hughes and Damon Jones.  put Kobe on those teams and they win 20 games.

Both line-ups are weak as hell, but I'll agree the Lakers one is worse, hence them never making it out of the first round, while the Cavs went to the finals.

what a great team the 04-05 Cavs were.  Lebron dropping 27-7-7 with this lineup and finishing above .500 is damn short of solving world hunger

lets not forget lebron plays in the east...he didnt even face any 50+ win teams this year in the playoffs till he saw the spurs...in kobe's past 2 championship runs, 5/6 teams he faced in the western conference were 50+ win teams. :eh:

that means if lebron played suns in the first round that year, he woulda gotten swept- WITH a better team...

of course not, they had no talent outside of Lebron.  but they were over .500 and he was only a sophomore that season
