NEWS - Ice Cube Claims New Direction For Westside Connection
 02/01/2000

(2/1/00, 3 p.m. ET) - The Westside Connection will begin work on its second album within a month. The Los Angeles-based supergroup comprising Ice Cube, WC, and Mack 10 expects to release a follow-up to their double-platinum debut, 1996's Bow Down, by the end of 2000. The group's premiere set attacked critics of gangster rap as well as Cypress Hill, Common, and others. Ice Cube told LAUNCH that the group's new collection will examine new themes.

"Last time we did a record, we had a lot to get off our chest," he said. "This time, you know, we've got other issues to talk about. But, you know, it's not going to be, the same… It's not going to be pointed in the same direction as the last one was."

In related news, Next Friday is the No. 2 movie in the country. Ice Cube wrote and appears in the film, which has grossed $39.5 million in three weeks of release. Next Friday is the sequel to Friday, the 1995 comedy that jumpstarted the career of actor-comedian Chris Tucker. Ice Cube also contributes to the soundtrack to **Next Friday**, which also features a new song from N.W.A.: the Dr. Dre-produced "Chin Check." Mack 10, Ja Rule, Eminem and Wu-Tang Clan also appear on the soundtrack.

In addition, Ice Cube is preparing the release of his next solo album, War & Peace Vol. 2 (The Peace Disc). The new album is the follow-up to his 1998 album, War & Peace Vol. 1 (The War Disc). Ice Cube's new album is scheduled for a March 21 release.
