Have you all heard Snoop's latest effort?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YW6zcLN2Os
I ain't hatin', I actually think that's a cool record and I'm sure it's gonna do well in Europe. But do y'all remember how Snoop was going on about how he didn't listen to Eminem "'cos he was a gangsta" a couple of years back in that dubcc interview? How gangsta was California Gurls, Snoop? How gangsta is this Robyn track Snoop?
Unlike the Katy Perry record, Snoop actually does some work on this one, spitting several verses, being on the hook and doing adlibs all over the place.
-
The man is almost 40 years old. Why do people still act like Snoop stop maturing at 18 years old. I don't even bump Snoop's new music because it's not my cup of tea, but I understand what he's doing.
Why is he gonna make some "gangsta" tracks to appeal to his European wigger followers (a small minority of his total fan base) when he can make something more mainstream that millions of people all ages can bump AND boost his album sales?
-
^his sales are at an all time low, so there goes your argument
-
I just want another blu carpet treatment, that was his last dope album IMO..
-
^his sales are at an all time low, so there goes your argument
that's because sales numbers are decreasing anyway. A gangsta record by Snoop wouldn't do better numbers I believe. Plus most ppl on here are downloading but want artists to do more "westcoast" music to increase sales. like wtf...
-

That's all around the board, buddy. Catering to a niche crowd like individuals stuck in 1994 is guaranteed to lower whatever album sales he's still getting.

if numbers are down and a gangsta album were made...what numbers would define bad or good sales n these tymez?

for a guy who makes appearances on TV shows and at public events all the time, dude needs atleast platinum in the first week (unless the album gets 0 promotion such as "The lost sessions" ofcourse...which was the best Snoop release since 1996 BTW)
-
just checked some stats
Ego Trippin went gold
Malice has not hit gold yet
SNOOP'S LAST MULTI PLATINUM ALBUM WAS "DA GAME IS TO BE SOLD..." IN 1998 :o

According to Wiki this is true. Also, somebody has to find this ha :
"Snoop Dogg has ventured into singing for Bollywood with his first ever rap for an Indian movie Singh Is Kinng; the title of the song is also "Singh is Kinng". The album featuring the song was released on June 8, 2008 on Junglee Music Records."

sure, but it's not like autotune or a pop feature will boost his sales much

There are a wave of sequels on the way, all because of rae.
Snoop is the next in line.
C-N-N already released the war report 2.
KRS announced return of the boom bip, AZ anounced Doe Or Die 2.
And I'm sure there are more

Hmmm Jay Z was the first to do with his Blue Print series
-
Cats are bootleggin his shit so much that he's caterin to white america cuz they will go to walmart or target and buy his shit so Katie is on the charts so he is gonna ride where the money is.....smart move snoopy keep doin it ....LL couldn't look where he ended up.......

Nah Rae sent the current trend for classic album sequels. They are all doing it because of him. No one's doing it because of The Blueprint 2, which was disappointing. That's not even the first album sequel. Tical, The Chronic 2001, etc.
I only support remakes of classics of they are trying to capture the essence of the original. OB4CL II was a true sequel, and tho not quite as good as the original it was probably the best album he could have made. Everything we've heard about Snoop's next album sounds like it would be a sequel in name only.

Snoop is not just a musician anymore... He's an entertainment machine, a brand. Music is just a portion of his repertoire now.
-
He definitely lost me when he started mentioning the jerk.

Lol^

It's this. If he sold 0 units for the rest of his life, he'd still be a millionaire. Why should Snoop care what we think?

look at guys like Antoine Walker who made $100+ Million in the NBA and are broke now
Snoop isn't invincible to that

Yup, exactly. I read on Billboard that they were trying to push Katy Perry as a singles artist but I think maybe that's the best thing for Snoop now. If he keeps releasing wack-ass albums he's gonna ruin his legacy. He was the shit in the 90s and had TLM in early 2000s but that's about it. Yes arguably TBCT was good but not good enough, and much too late.
He just needs to appear on singles often enough to keep fans wanting more. Quantity vs Quality ;D
-
Didnt he ruin his legacy post last meal?
-
How did he ruin it? Snoop is now more visible and relevant than ever before. Record sales aren't a barometer to consider an artist's success anymore, because like I said rap is only a part of his repertoire...
So for close minded people who are only looking for "g-funk snoop dogg" then yeah maybe he ruined it post last meal. But overall he's only gotten bigger and bigger. After Last Meal he had some of the biggest hits of his career ("Beautiful, Drop It Like It's Hot, Sexual Eruption, I Wanna Rock")
-
I am just not a fan of pop music and I was recently requested to make a mixtape with it. It was easy but I almost wanted to cry listening to it.
Stay true to yourself. I can undesrtand expanding out but come on. You will lose fans because of it, though you will gain some. It's a win lose situation.

Who says snoop isn't being true to himself?
Snoop doesn't really act like an underground rapper.
Mainstream fans aren't as loyal as his west coast fan base.

Being visible and making music are two separate topics. If you want to talk about visibility, then yea, Snoop's all over the place.
However this topic is about music, and as far as consistent quality goes, it's been going down hill for years. Snoop's problem is that he and the label put TOO MUCH music on the cd's. Do y'all realize that outside of "Doggystyle" and "Malice N Wonderland", his albums have at least 19 or more tracks (only official albums, not talking about albums like "Dead Man Walking" or the Chuuch mixtapes")?
If Snoop cuts down his album to 14 or 15 tracks with an interlude or two, the quality of music he puts out would be much better. Blue Carpet Treatment, No Limit Top Dogg, and Ego Trippin' would have been much better albums if he had left 5-6 tracks off of each album.

Agree witchu on the first part reality check not 2nd part bout trimmin down album

There was an album's worth of filler between "Ego Trippin'" and "Blue CArpet Treatment". If he left those tracks on the cutting room floor, those albums would easily 4-4.5 star albums.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
