Nobody got more hate then Puff. But if you look at the way this album was put together, and the attention to detail... I'm not saying it was as great as The Chronic album; but it is similar.
If you look at the talent that came together to put this record together, Biggie and Jadakiss puttin down most the lyrics. All-star guest appearances from Twista, Jay-Z, 112, Black Rob, Jadakiss, Busta Rhymes...the baddest bitches in the game at the time Foxy, Kim and Faith Evans. Production was bangin on every track. This came out during an era when hip-hop was mourning the losses of 2pac and Biggie, so the emotional impact was intense, and Puff was careful to capture the moment.
Ya'll agree this album is a Classic? One of the all time great hip-hop albums?
-
From a talent perspective, yes. Collectively how he was able to assemble everything to assist on the album was dope.

one of the first albums I ever bought after Ready To Die and The Saga Continues, definitely a classic even though I don't really follow Diddy anymore
Forever was a pretty good album too IMO even though it had some pretty pop tracks
-
Victory is an epic track, hell the video had Dennis Hopper in it.
-
1. Puffy also played a HUGE role in ruining Hip-Hop so he deserves all the hate he gets. And

Def had some classic songs, but overall Puffy is such a homo and it's hard to get over that when you hear him on the mic. From his corny raps and adlibs, I just couldn't call it classic overall.

gay thread about a gay album sans one Biggie verse

Yeah... kind of feel guilty for liking this album. But the album does prove that the man did know a thing or two about hip-hop; even though most of the time he was throwing salt in the game.
-
I don't consider it a classic, I'd say it was just a really good album.
-
hahaha
it's funny how people re-evaluates "wack" albums these days, when they realize how much the current music actually sucks..
maybe "Big Willie Style" all of a sudden, became a "classic" too?
back in 00 people would laugh at these albums..
nope, it's not a classic. it wasn't unconventional enough, and it didn't break ground musically.. it just gave birth to Puff Daddy - the superstar..
but it's definitely an underrated album.. i'll give u that..
I'm not saying it was as great as The Chronic album; but it is similar.
not in a million years.. the comparison is blashphemy..
-
Been ages since I bumped these albums.

The only good things on this album were some verses from Big and Jay. Puffy nearly fucked up his own above-average LP by trying to rap on it.
-
Victory is my shit, fuck the rest of the album.
Diddy almost created hip-pop by himself, he should be murdered
-
nah not a classic. Same way Harlem World isnt a classic. Looking back they were good albums. But we're looking from the perspective of 2010 hip hop fans where having corny singles is the norm. Bakc then Mase didnt have to do the Love U So track or whaever that bs was.
-
It's a great compilation album
-
No it isn't a classic
-
I loved the vibe on this album, it got a lot of hate when it came out but on the whole is a great album.

-
WTF LOL....
-
I listened to this album for the first time in years a few weeks ago.
Almost without exception, it sounded like complete shit.
-
I agree with what a couple of people have said already:
From today's perspective, it sounds pretty good, because most stuff today is such fuckshitballsassbollocks
But when it was released it was pretty mediocre, and it's definitely nowhere near as good as the golden era stuff
-
What's with people shitting on today's music?
I can name at least 10 albums from this year that are better then No Way Out.
-
it defintately holds a place in my life, but recently relistening to it, except for the 4-5 BANGERS , a lot of weak ass track on there
-
People complaining about Puffy creating "hip-POP" or whatever, if you listen to the album it's not a lot of bullshit club and dance/ringtone type tunes like you hear today. The overall tone of the album is actually cumbersome, brooding, and mourning the loss of Biggie.

No club and dance on there?
Hell if I remember correctly even now you can here 2-4 tracks from that album in the club. Now I agree that it is light years better than most of the stuff you here that is club friendly now, but for it's time it is what it is.
And really excluding the ending of the album, you can tell that Biggie's work was all over this album. He was the one that suggested it to Puff in the first place to rap.
