I never really paid much attention to this artist, but I think I'll give him a try (mostly after hearing him on talib kweli's cd...) So, which album do you recommend as the first album I should pick up?
-
well you should get them all but rhytmalism was my favorite so i say get that one first
-
I only have unda the influence. I like that one but you know what you could get the greatest hits one. But maybe rythmalism I have never heard it so I can't judge it. Lil' jay probably knows a little bit more about dj quik than i do so i think its best to take advice from him than me about dj quik
-
buy the first one its tiight ...then buy the second....rhytmalism is the best!!!
-
Rythm-A-Lism is the tightest!!
-
Well he made a greatest hits for somthing didnt he?
Get that if you havnt heard much by him. But get all his others. take it from someone that owns them all. Its worth it.
Oh yeah and Safe + Sound is his best In my opinion. Get that if you choose against the "Best Of".
-
i would say just to go ahead and get his greatest hits, but rhythmalism is dope too
-
Safe & Sound is his best album, IMO. But you need them all, every album is a masterpiece...
My rankin:
1.Safe+Sound
2.Rhytm-al-ism
3.Quik is the name/Under the influence
4.Balance & Options
5.Way 2 Fonky

Yeah, I knew there was a best of.... but I don't really like greatest hits albums. It's hard to explain but they just don't sound right to me, like the songs don't mix together. I guess I'll have to check out rhytm-al-ism and safe and sound then....... thanks for the help
-
Balance and option was a tite album, his newest one is tha shit to....
-
begin with the first one ;) even a dj quik hater like me luvs it 8) haha....
-

I agree with Jay on this one.
-
Fuck it buy all of his albums. Quik never made a bad album and all of his shit is tight.
-

-
Here are my rankings....
1. Safe and Sound
2 Rhythym-al-ism
3. Quik Is the Name
4. Balance and Options
5. Unda the influence
6. Way 2 Fonky
The great thing about DJ Quik is that he reinvents his style on each CD. He brngs something new to the table, he always finds a way to improve. He is clearly one of the top producers in the hip hop game. He is never repetitive. PROPS TO QUIK!!!
but yea just get the Best of DJ QUIk. u can see the way he progressed through the years
-
didn't quik himself say one of his albums was just a bunch of average songs put together to get of his label at the time ............. which cd was that?

That was "Balance & Options". I still thought it was dope though.

I think u should definitely pick up his greatest hits album first to see if u like his style, then go on and pick up either Rhythmalism or Safe + Sound
his older cd's are the shit too but have an old school NWA sound but still they are the shit!!!!
DJ quik has never let me down with a cd release, I own all of his albums and they are in my daily cd rotation everyday, I own mostly all of the albums he has produced on as well

1. Safe and Sound-Straight Classic
2. Rhythym-al-ism-Close Second
