Title: Albums That Were Recorded On Death Row But Released On Other Labels
Post by: procrastiNate on November 08, 2010, 06:03:05 PM
Daz Dillinger - R.A.W.

Kurupt - Originals
I think Kurupt put this out on his label because Suge was taking to long to drop Against The Grain.

L.A. Nash (Mason Knight) - Life On The Row
I'm thinking that the reason why this album popped up outta nowhere is because Wideawake just gave him the tracks because they had no intention of putting out his music themselves. Either that or he already had the music in his possession.

Nate Dogg - G-Funk Classics Vol. 1 & 2
I read somewhere that Nate or the company he signed to when he left Death Row paid them $1 million for the rights to the tracks he recorded for his solo album while on the Row. Can anyone confirm this? It makes sense seeing as how he probably would've got sued by them for using the tracks had he not had permission. I say this particularly about this album because it was already being marketed at one point and was on the verge of dropping in 96/97.

Tha Dogg Pound - Last Of The Pound
As we all know the reason for this album coming out on DPG Recordz is because Daz stole alot of his and other artists masters when he left Death Row.

I know there are some others. Add on...

Nate Dogg - G-Funk Classics Vol. 2

Nate was off Death Row upon recording Vol. 2.  He even disses Death Row in the intro.  Unless you're trying to get me on some technicality ;)

I know the intro on disc 2 wasn't recorded on Death Row but listen to the songs, most of them seem like they were recorded on Death Row. Don't ask me why, it just seems that way. One I  can think of off the top of my head is Puppy Love, Kurupt was not rapping like that in 1998.

Nate Dogg G-Funk Classics vol 1 was recorded on death row, AND released by death row in 97. Then it was pulled from the shelves after like 2 weeks for some reason.

It was then re-released with G-Funk Classics Vol 2 on whatever his second label was in 98.

I don't know where G-Funk Classics 2 was recorded. But the instrumentals were done by the DR crew, and it has that Death Row RnB sound.

I believe G-Funk classics vol 1 does not have any pre-95 songs on it. So who knows what Nate Dogg did from 92-94 at death row. have not heard a drop of his DR vault - maybe he has some songs over dre beats  :o. But this is the type of music where either a) wide awake is too stupid to release it or b) the masters are lost/stolen/destroyed.

Oh and btw DJ Quik Safe and Sound was recorded at Death Row studios. But i think he mad the songs with his crew, i don't think he used the dr crew.

warren g's debut album... i noticed it had barney rubble on the keys and carl butch smalls on the drums. so that explains why it sort of had that death row sound...

dat whoopty whoop was recorded at DR in the late 90s. who knows what soopafly did at DR from 93-96... again this is the type of shit that we will probably never hear.

That`s whut dr shud do.  Take sum hot beats that we`ll never hear and werent supposed to hear and do tha same with all types of vocals and create songs with them and ADD some touches to it ONLY if it needs it, they shud stop wasting time.

Safe N Sound was one of the only non-DR projects with Suge listed as an executive producer.

2pac Better Dayz (Amaru)
2pac Until the End of Time (Amaru)
2pac Still I Rise (Interscope)
The first two were Death Row releases. They shared label credit with Amaru. Still I Rise was also a DR release but they took their logo off the album over a dispute with Interscope. It was listed as an official release in their catalog and on their official website at the time. Suge also received publishing credit for all the songs.

2nd II None's album 'The Shit' was meant to come out on DR wasn't it?  Not sure if that's been released properly though?
G-Funk Classics came out briefly right?  And then DR pulled it which is a shame because it's a classic album and should have been released when DR was in it's prime.  I was surprised when I found it brand new on Amazon last year for dirt cheap.

As far as Retribution, I wasn't counting that as an official album because it's just a mixtape and not a retail release. Tha Realest Death Row Dayz Vol. 1 & 2 are just bootlegs and Top Dogg - The Renagade was recorded well after he left the Death Row.
