Dude might be Hall of fame worthy already. If he played in NY or Bos he would be the most popular and notorious athlete in American sports after Bron.

You mean, when he plays for New York, he will be one of the most popular athletes. 8)

In this day no way will an MLB pitcher be the biggest name in sports based only on his in game talent. I don't care what team they're on. Tom Brady is bigger than Derek Jeter. Maybe not by much, but it's an NFL country first.

That being said, no NFL player will ever reach the level that Babe Ruth had reached or be remembered the same way the Babe still is now.

Probably not because once you hit that legendary status and when you are the first one to do it it holds a certain significance over others who beat your records or come after you.

Yes he is. So is Peyton, Dan Marino, Brett Favre, and Joe Montana. More every day people that don't watch sports will know thos names ahead of Jeter's. Same with Mike Vick, but that's for different reasons. I'm just counting for reasons based on the sport. For example, the most popular football player in pop culture is and probably always will be OJ Simpson, but it has nothing to do with a HoF career or 2000 yards.
Baseball simply isn't as popular as football. The only baseball related athlete you could claim is bigger than the QBs is Barry Bonds, but only because the steroid scandal connected to the homerun record.
I'm not sure football has a Babe Ruth, like boxing has an Ali, basketball has a Jordan, or Hockey has a Gretzky. Those are all names that people that hear and don't know much about them but still know what they did. I don't know if it's the NFL not finding the guy that transcends the basic boundaries of sports fans and crosses to the pop culture world. And I'm not just saying making to the point where he is known in the Hollywood world, but to the point where he is revered in it. All of the names I mentioned at their peak were among the biggest celebrities in the world when they were on top. Jeter never was on of those guys. He made it to the dance, but he was never the bell of the ball. And I can't think of a single football player outside of OJ that was either. Namath came close in the 70s. But when you say Football and you want the first player people can think of you won't get any single majority answer. Babe Ruth, Jordan, Tiger Woods, Ali will get at least 50% of the name drops.
