Who else besides myself belives we are in store for deja' vu all over again at Aftermath...
I still remember when King Tee got put way the fuck in the back bunner when it came to the phenom Eminem...And I see it happening all over again wit' 50 eclipsing Rakim's shine.
it might not happen, but in reality Ra's buzz has died down hard......super hard.
ImO no doubt I would have the Ra over 50....but in this world we live in, the old guy will have to play the background to the popular vote...Shady/Aftermath.
OnE
Hatesrats 2oo2
anyone else belive or have an opinion on this drop some ish...

i still think rakim will come out on schedule or whatever ..
like .. they want Rakim's album to be kept 'top secret' no info leaking about it etc, which is probably why is buzz has died down, as you put it. Sure, nobody is talkin now, but when it drops people will think its the second coming of god or whatever, believe that.
-
put it this way...people listen to dre when he says something about an artists...but when em says something about an artist people follow

i think Rakim's Oh My God will be released on Aftermath early to mid 2003. 50 Cent is shining at the moment because of eminem's backing but i think its just hype that the album wont live up to.
i dont think dre will give up rakim so easily either, the project has been talked up for so long and rakim already has a soild position in the industry and has been in the game as long as dre.
i think right now, this silence over oh my god is exactly what they had been saying, building the surprise, the quite before the storm - i think before we know it Rakim's first single will be out and cause a bang in the rap game.
-
I think the two will be held seperate. Eminem is basically headin' the 50 cent album; Dre's helping out, but mainly it's Em and 50 handling it (as far as I can tell).
Ra is being handled just by dre. If anything, we'll see Detox or Cube get pushed back. I don't expect either of those until 2004.

Rakim will drop and shit peoples reaction to it is gonna be like "Oh My God".....gonna be such a bangin album.....damn i cant wait....shit if it was up to me fuck 50 and bring out Rakim already.....
-
All of US are gonna be like "oh my god" but I'll bet commercially it won't do that well.

i hear yah...but i think this album is gonna do well on both ends...everyone is gonna love it. but if they dont well fuck them....this is Rakims last album and shit is gonna be banging.......i can care less about it comercially honestly especially if its his last album.....i just want a banging album....but i think it will blow up

It's almost impossible anymore for a decent artist to sell well. Rakim is NOT gonna be MTV friendly, he's got a track record of not promoting albums. He'll never catch on with kids today, so he'll never sell. Kids don't care about lyrics... they're into beats and rhythms. That's why crooked I drops a single for his album months ago, and it gets played like twice. Nobody cares about what they're saying, and that's gonna be Ra's problem, in my opinion. You think anybody liked "Addictive" because Ra was on it? Hell no, they just liked that dope beat, and the 'addictive' rhythm to the vocals. I'll bet 80% of the viewers on mtv and bet didn't even know who he was.

Rakim will probably go platinum. The 18th Letter and The 18th Letter/Book Of Life were counted seperate I believe and both went gold. That's with one video ("Guess Who's Back") and the only other tracks to help promote him after the 5 year break was with Mobb Deep & Noyd on "Hoodlum" plus I think they put out "It's Been A Long Time" on a 12" before the album came.
That album was hyped by not as much as this one. And hopefully they can get a single as perfect as "Guess Who's Back" for Oh My God.
-
Yeah; I DO think he'll go platinum, but man an artist of his stature oughta be up there pushin 3 million.
-
Rakim won't sell shit...Nobody is checking for dude...50 rules the clubs, radios and streets...And now hooking up with Dre and Em he probably got the West coast on lock...50 will be the biggest story of 2003 along with Detox when it drops...
-
yeah... sad thou... E.Trauma's right on point wit what he said... true shit but it's fucked up...
