Paroled Rap Mogul Arrested

Rap music mogul Marion "Suge" Knight was taken into custody Monday for alleged parole violations that could send him back to prison for a year, authorities said.
State parole official Fernando Rios declined Monday to explain the violations allegedly committed by the 37-year-old founder of Death Row Records.
But law enforcement sources said four violations relate to Knight's alleged association with reputed gang members who authorities say are connected with a series of retaliatory shootings this year. As a condition of his parole, Knight is not allowed to associate with gang members.
Knight was taken into custody Monday afternoon by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies after meeting with his parole officer in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley. By Monday night, Knight was on his way to Chino State Prison, where he will stay until a hearing on his case.
Knight's lawyer, David Z. Chesnoff, said he was surprised by the arrest.
"Mr Knight has done everything within his power to avoid any kind of trouble and at the same time remain active in the hip hop recording community," Chesnoff said. "His association with people that the parole board finds objectionable is in all likelihood, if true, directly connected to the music business and nothing else."
In the 1990s, Knight's company, now called Tha Row, propelled hard- core rap from the fringe into the headphones of suburban teenagers nationwide and generated $100 million a year in album sales. But the colorful, Compton-born mogul never let go of his tough-guy roots.
In 1992, he was convicted of assault and federal weapons violations but was given probation. In 1996, he was incarcerated for five years for violating the terms of his probation after he and several associates, including rap star Tupac Shakur, were recorded on videotape beating a gang rival in the lobby of a Las Vegas hotel. Three hours after that, Shakur was fatally shot on the Las Vegas strip and Knight, who was with him, was wounded.
Since his release from prison in 2001, Knight has vowed to rebuild his company, and stay out of trouble. But in recent months, he has been dogged by a L.A. County Sheriff's investigation into a string of shootings allegedly committed by employees of Tha Row, some in retaliation for the murder of employee and Knight friend Alton "Buntry" McDonald.
The Sheriff's Department has pushed for Knight's return to prison, providing a detailed report of Knight's alleged parole violations garnered in part from a November raid on Knight's homes and businesses (continued...)

"We gave his parole officer evidence to substantiate that Mr. Knight has violated his parole on several occasions," said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Bob Rifkin.
Sheriff investigators on April 3 stopped Knight's car and found him with Timmy "Timmy Ru" McDonald, an alleged member of the Mob Town Pirus. That night, McDonald's brother, Alton McDonald had been fatally shot as he stood beside his SUV at a gas station in Compton.
In retaliation, law enforcement sources said, Eric "Scar" Daniel was shot and killed on June 7, and Gary Phillips was shot and wounded on Sept. 12.
Last month, Sheriff's investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Timmy McDonald, part of an investigation into a string of shootings involving rival members of two Bloods gang factions. McDonald allegedly tried to shoot a man on Oct. 22 in retaliation for the murder of Knight associate Henry "Hen Dog" Smith six days earlier.
Several of the suspects in those shootings are on the payroll of Tha Row and a car used in one of the shootings was tied to Tha Row, sources said.
Three other Knight associates were arrested last month during the raid on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder. They were later released and no charges were filed.
During that raid, sheriff's investigators found evidence that Knight lived in a Malibu home without the knowledge of his parole officer. Law enforcement sources also said they had recovered photographs of Knight and gang members at a party making gang signs with their fingers.

Damn that's wack... It sucks for anybody to be in jail for some bullshit like that. That's his life... he kicks it with a bunch of gangsters... they shouldn't be able to tell you how to live unless you're actually breaking a law.
But they'll most likely let him go. He gots bank and it's a bullshit charge...

yeah i was gonna post about this shit too.....if he violated his parole then he belongs behind bars......thats what i think......he knew what he can and cant do and he decides to do shit he cant do anyway......so he got to face the concequences.

He was proberly brought up into the life that he lives so even though he is prob doing wrong its proberly the way he has been brought up to live. I dont like the man I will tell you that but to be spending christmas in jail is just fucked. I will pour out some liqor for him next time I drink, truth is I want this fool to get his life back adn track and bring us some more talents and get himself and his label back on top of the game. Come on Suge get yer act together,!

this is from mtv, which points out the specific violatons Suge supposedly committed:
-Establishing or relocating to a residence other than the one registered with his parole officer. One of the conditions of Knight's parole is that he must register his residence with his parole officer. But according to Rios, the parole board has information from other law enforcement agencies that Knight had purchased and was residing in another unregistered home.
-Failing to clear a newly employed security guard or driver. Knight is required to clear with his parole officer the hiring of any bodyguards or personal drivers in order to prevent him from hiring someone with a criminal background and giving them a position in which they could get a license to carry a firearm.
-Associating with a known gang member as well as associating with a group of known gang members (two counts). When any reputed gang member is released from prison, it is a common condition of parole to prohibit that person from associating with other gang members. According to Rios, the state parole office has photos and other documentation showing that Knight had consorted a gang member named Tim McDonald as well as other gang members.
by looking at it, the only "serious" one is the first one. I can understand how that can be a violation. The other 2 come with the territory of being a CEO of a gangsta rap label. I would have thought that Suge, his lawyers, and the parole officers would have discussed this, because it is inevitable that Suge would come into contact with gang members, considering his roots in Compton. The last two charges are bullshit because of the field Suge works in. I guarantee anyone not named Suge Knight would have some sort of exemption from the last two. He was arrested, however the mtv article said he's gonna be in jail for the next month or so, and then he's gonna see the parole board, which then they will decide whether to dismiss the charges, which they should considering where Suge works, or send him to jail. It isn't automatic Suge is going to jail for a year, pump yo brakes snoop groupies, it doesn't mean Tha Row is gonna die. This is actually a big test for Kurupt. He is VP of Tha Row, and when the President is out, he has to assume the responsibility.
