Nipsey Hussle chose his Twitter as his media to explain the reason why his debut album South Central State of Mind will be not be releasing on December 21st, as originally planned.
South central state of mind has been indefinitly postponed. I’m droping “The Marathon” on 12 21 2010. I’ll explain because yall matter to me: SOUTH CENTRAL STATE OF MIND IS MY MASTERPEICE. WHEN ITS DONE U WILL GET IT. UNTILL THEN #TMC. THIS IS NOT MY LABELS DECISION, ITS A CREATIVE MOVE TO ENSURE THAT I GIVE MY TRUE BELIVERS MY BEST OFFERING ON MY DEBUT ALBUM. MY LIFE HAS BEEN SUCH A STRUGGLE, AND I ALWAYS SAID IF I EVER MAKE IT TO WHERE I AM NOW I WOULD DO IT FROM THE HEART.
that is wests biggest problem - muthafuckas want for their debut albums to have buzz, sell good and become a classic.. but the fucking push backs is the main thing that takes all attention away from the coast smh

To apologize for the delay he should release his mixtapes untagged.
-
It wouldn't surprise me if nipsey doesn't even have a deal anymore...
-
Dam I knew this album wouldn't drop this year.

Now the question is, what's this "Marathon" thing? Any info on that? Is it an official album, a mixtape? Any tracklist?

That's what happens when your still living in a fantasy world thinking your debut it's gonna be a classic and go platinum even tho the facts are that it's a year 2010 - not 1995, and NOBODY from the West Coast can't sell SHIT even if your Snoop Dogg! I thought Nipsey had learn from the Crooked I's, Clyde Carson's, Lil' Eazy's, G. Malone's, Jay Rock's and every other New West rapper that pushing your album over and over again won't help or get you NOWHERE - face it.
The fact is, more and more people would give up on you. I just did, cause I'm sick and tired of this bullshit so I'll past on "South Central State Of Mind" just like I did years ago on "B.O.S.S.", "Beach Cruiser", "Reformation", "Theatre Music", "Follow Me Home", "Prince Of Compton" and other 'debut' albums that's been dropping since 2005 at least - I have enough of this soap opera..

To be honest I never really seen Nip pushing a single out there. At the least when his mixtapes were buzzing you had him doing interviews and videos. So to go from that to just throwing a date out and a single that I have only seen on dubcc I would push the date back too. The days of dropping a album with no buzz and word of mouth pushing it are dead.
-
suprise suprise... ::)
-
At the least when his mixtapes were buzzing you had him doing interviews and videos.
And they never even put out untagged versions of his mixtapes. This is the reason I will not buy his album, if it ever comes out.

XXL’s 2010 Freshman alumni, Nipsey Hu$$le, announced via Twitter that his much anticipated studio album South Central State of Mind has been postponed indefinitely. XXL spoke to the left coast up-and-comer today (November 29) about his reasoning behind the delay and what fans can expect in the meantime.
Calling his two years in the industry “an educational experience,” Nipsey said pushing his album back was a hard decision that he had to make for himself.“My career as Nipsey Hu$$le is based on my life as Ermias Asghedom,” he explained to XXL in an email. “With that being said, it became clear that hard decisions must be made to be successful. As is the case with most people in this game, I am driven by financial motives and creative motives; the question I had to answer is which motive I will give priority to? I spent the last 12 months doing as much hard thinking as possible about what my decision would be and I choose to focus on the quality of my product and the experience of those receiving it over the possible financial benefits of having a major label album released A.S.A.P.”
Speaking on the frustrations of working with Epic, the California native said, “My biggest disagreement with the label was the separation of the processes it takes to develop and release something special: the music, the pictures, the videos, it was all being created and released from separate points of reference therefore confusing the consumers about the identity and integrity of my brand. I will never say something I don’t agree with or believe in…even if the reward is massive!”
Deciding that the pros out weigh the cons, Nipsey has decided he would rather take the time to craft his debut album to his standards while releasing his free mixtape, The Marathon, in the meantime. The Marathon will drop on Decemeber 21, 2010. Staying true to a promise he made to himself when he first started, Nipsey says finally, “My conclusion is as follows: Brand over Business.”

I'll look foward to the new mixtape. As for the album push-back it's no surprise, dude was literally quiet all year long. Dude's single didn't blow up as big as expected and he took a L as a result. I wonder how things would be like now if he'd appeared on Drake's Thank Me Later prior to releasing that single with Lloyd, followed by appearences on various albums (like Lloyd Banks' Hunger For War II album for example).

not a surprise

Was looking forward to this album. Guess he'll wait til after detox comes

Well releasing your debut album 4 days before X-Mas isn't a good idea anyways. Not sure what they were thinking in the first place. Going head 2 head around the same time with Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, T.I., etc

Especially with no buzz. Career suicide for a debut album.

I'll still buy SCSOM when it drops, no matter what! Just burned a CD with the dopest songs from his three mixtapes plus Here Goes Nothing, Feeling Myself and Key To The City and the result is a better album than most have dropped over the last years. 8)
