Behind the Beats: Alex Da Kid
At this rate, Alex Da Kid might want to consider changing his name to Alexander Da Great pretty soon.
The British beatsmith was nominated for five Grammys this week for his work on B.o.B's blockbuster hit "Airplanes" and Eminem's chart-topper "Love the Way You Lie." He also produced Nicki Minaj's "Massive Attack."
While he only has a few placements under his belt, the producer has a knack for knocking what he does do out of the park.
His next big single comes courtesy of his work with Dr. Dre.
The veteran hip-hop producer invited Alex Da Kid to work with him on a track for his forthcoming Detox project, "I Need a Doctor" featuring Eminem.
"That was amazing," ADK told Mixtape Daily about the experience. "He's one of my favorite producers of all time. Everybody knows how much of a perfectionist he is: He's been working on his album for 11 years. For him to bring me in, trust me, not micro-manage me, and let me bring what I do to the table, I can't even describe how that makes me feel."
The song recently arrived online, and on the number, Eminem attempts to turn the tables on his mentor. The MC credited Dre with being one of the people to help him out of his funk the past few years, so on "I Need a Doctor," Em looks to repay the producer.
"It hurts when I see you struggle/ You come to me with ideas/ You say they're pieces, so I'm puzzled," Eminem raps on the track. " 'Cause the sh-- I hear is crazy/ But you're either getting lazy/ Or don't believe in you no more/ Seem like your own opinion is not one you can form/ Can't make a decision/ You keep questioning yourself, second guessing/ It's almost like you're begging for my help/ Like I'm your leader; you're supposed to be my mentor/ I can endure no more/ Don't you remember who you are?"
"I think it's gonna be huge," Alex Da Kid said. "It's just my opinion, but it's one of my favorite songs that I did and just what it means for hip-hop."

I Need a Doctor is sicc sicc track, I love it. Real deep shit. I bet they will mix it a better, sounds like the beat/vocals are flangeing a bit. I don't know if that was added after by someone or the producer(s).
Great song ... I have to monitor myself from listening too much cuz that melodic hook gets stuck in my head all day 8)

Kush is dope , but this track by Alex da Kid SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS

Getting a bit carried away I think. Like everyone, just wait and see how it all turns out. Maybe get a hobby or something until the album is released.
-
till i see the official tracklist i aint believin anyones bullshit
-
LOL if this is a Detox track when the song structure is clearly an Eminem song. That would be wack.
-
Of those three tracks, I actually like "I Need A Doctor" the most and I'd say it fits the Detox theme fine.
-
Lol this nigga said get a hobby, fuck outta here. this shit right here nigga is life!
-
Its cool but i`d rather listen to something else. I like tha beat but this is an Eminem album type of song, Encorest type of vibe. But if Dre wants to put it on Detox then who am I to complain. When Dre raps Eminem`s shit it always sounds stiff.
-
Sorry that track was pop yawn. Unfinished/annoying/just plain sucky beat. :-[
-
Lol this nigga said get a hobby, fuck outta here.
That was a funny line.
Didn't listen to that song, i'll just listen official singles and the album when it comes out.
-
I doubt it will be on Detox.
But if so, its a perfect intro. Imagine that continued by some new age shit from Dre.
-
i dont see how it can be on Detox. it would be a perfect for a recovery re-release which then leads to detox.
still cant get into alex da kids beats either.
-
So the Kush video is for tomorrow right ?
-
Hope so...Let's see it.

Beat is definitely not Detox quality, but it does have a terrible mix. By the time we hear the final version I'm guessing it will be much improved.
-
lol i need a doctor is wack! like under pressure!!! detox will sucks hard!!!!
8)
give me a new roscoe album please
-
To me, that is NOT a confirmation of that it is a Detox track..
''bring to the table'' is not automatically Detox.. could might as well be for the Em re-release or a new album..
Btw I hate this song.. Seems too much like a Recovery song.. baah.. Liz Rodrigues' part is madd dope though..
-
If this is another Detox joint then Dre is seriously dropping the ball with these tracks so far. This one is more likely picked up by the mainstream though, follows the trend of recent popular tracks.
-
this is not going to be on detox, recovery re-release
what the fuck is dre doing getting other dudes to produce shit on his album? dre gets his shit ghost-written, so what does he do? "mix" ?
-

I hope this isn't a Detox track... I can cope with Kush, because at least it sounds like something Dre has been working on...
But "I Need A Doctor" sounds like just an ok track that would have been alright on Eminem's last album
-
he's just buzzing himselfe
-
Hopefully its on the Recovery re-release and not on Detox. This aint good enough to be on Detox! Good track tho but definitly not Detox level.
-
Open your eyes dumbfucks .There is no Recovery Re Release .It's early December , so we would know if by now of a re release . They would only do thar to take advantage of the holiday season like they did Relapse Refill . Dewaun Parker said it himself that two tracks were being released on his Twitter . This is a wasted slot on the tracklist .
-
Suits being on an Em album.

if dre won't release a full version of a snippet of under pressure, what the fuck makes you think he's going to put a full leaked song hook and all on an album thats taken him 11 years to make you dumb cunt
-
Because , if you look at the wording of what Alex da Kid said , he talks about how he was surprised Dre let him do his thing ..Eminem had no control of the track . We would know of a re release by now. Amazon has no mention of it , either. Read the article when your sober , and you will clearly see it's for Dre's album , numbnuts .

All you complainers are gonna camp out in front of Wal Mart the day it drops regardless.

All you complainers are gonna camp out in front of Wal Mart the day it drops regardless.
Well then they'll be extra dissapointed because Wal Mart only carries the clean versions.

i can't believe that went right over your head like that... smh
-
several people "in the know" have said this is NOT a Detox joint.
but those same people said there would be a Recovery re release so who knows ha
and for the record, Alex Da Kidd's beats are ok, but are far from "special" quality.
I Need a Doctor has some of the most ridiculous effects on it ... makes it sound wack

this one really sucks :P
Dre needs a doctor if this makes the cut
-
Dre's been in the studio for 10 years making beats for this album and then he doesn't even use his own beats?
What a fuck you move by dre.
I can respect that.

No way. Em has two verses & the song is Em to Dre.
I heard this was going to be something off of his Recovery re-release.
This better not be on Detox lol.

i think 'Alex da who gives a fuck' is just saying it's a Detox track only because it was made in a 'Detox' session, or it was shopped to Dre as a POTENTIAL 'Detox' track perhaps? clearly at this point it will more than likely miss the final cut if it EVER was put into a 'Detox' track-list of any kind, at ANY point. i think anyone marketing Eminem & or Dr. Dre would have enough historical sense to release this solely as an EMINEM track. otherwise drop it as a Dre track & watch the haters flock & die-hard Dre fans make it a FLOP. ;D
-
Indeed

I agree, this sounds way more like an Eminem song than it does a Dre song. I hope it doesn't end up on Detox, I only want to hear Dre produced or co-produced tracks on the record (although saying that, this could be like what 'The Message' was to 2001).

but The message had a dope beat + a better hook
-
this sounds like "Love the way you lie" part 2 ;D
I read somewhere that it is going to be the second single off of Detox, Alex the Kid's words not Dre's so take it with a grain of salt.

That kid is really in no position to confirm anything.

I heard the album title has changed to "Alex da Kid presents Detox (featuring Dr. Dre)"

I do. Honestly, should of been on "Recovery". But its not something I want to hear on Detox. Not only is it Eminem's song to Dre, but Dre doesn't produce it & I'm expecting a much different sound for Detox.
-
I also hoped that if Em will be on Detox, then it won't be the new Eminem, but the old Slim Shady, or at least the old styled Eminem, i hate his new shit..

I have a feeling people will be disappointed no matter what it sounds like. Everyone expects it to have that Dre sound, but also everyone wants it to be new and groundbreaking at the same time.
