ONE PLAYER, who was previously considered a "#2 at best" during his Phoenix days, has single handidly turned that team into the most valuable franchise BEFORE THEY EVEN GET CARMELO
that team may never win a ring under Amare/Melo but damn it'll be fun to watch

The Knicks have won 2 titles in NBA history. The Spurs, Pistons, 76ers, Bulls, even the Warriors have won more NBA titles than the Knicks. But they are in the most famous arena, they are in the heart of the largest city in America, and New York is dying for a winner in basketball. They are ready to retake New York, gain Carmelo, and even as a Laker fan I have to admit that the upside of New York is better than the Lakers, in that the Lakers have a smaller window to win another title but the Knicks, once they gain Carmelo, will have a good 5-7 years of title winning potential. So if you want a quick investment, go Lakers, you want long term go New York.

The Knicks were more valuable than the Lakers for a while (except for last season) even when they were really bad ... it had nothing to do with the players star potential on the roster

True....however with a city like LA that is so sprawling (unlike NY), you almost HAVE to include the surrounding area of Los Angeles county. Really...how many people dont consider Compton a part of LA? There isnt a real divide between where Los Angeles City ends...and the next city starts. Los Angeles County is about 10.5 Million people.

Yeah it can get a little tricky. The further from the city you get, the less people identify as a part of it. If you factor in the metro area, you get 21 million in NY and 17 million in L.A. But how much of each would identify with their respective city, county, area?
