For the most part I agree with you about Alex Da Kid but I'm feeling this beat.

I can defintely see why Lupe had to push for this to be a single.  Major content not often found in singles.

Quote
I really think the war on terror is a bunch of bullshit
just a poor excuse for you to use up all your bullets
how much money does it take to really make a full clip?
9/11 fell in seconds, did they really put it?
uh and a bunch of other cover ups
your child's future was the first to go with budget cuts
if you think that hurts then wait here comes the upper cut
the school was garbage in the first place; that's on the up and up
keep you at the bottom but teach you with the upper crush
you get it and they move it so you never keeping up enough
if you turn on tv all you see is a bunch of WHAT THE FUCK?
do this, so and so, blabbering about such and such
homie, that's not Jersey Shore, that's the news
and these the same people supposedly telling us the truth
Limbaugh is a racist and Glen Beck is a racist
Gaza Strip is getting bombed and Obama aint say shit
that's why I didn't vote for him and next one either
I'm a part of the problem and my problem is I'm peaceful
and I believe in the people

Chorus: Skylar Grey
It's so loud inside my said with words I should've said
as I drown in my regrets I can't back the words I never said

Now we say it ain't our fault if we never heard it
but if we now better than we probably deserve it
Jihad is not holy war, where is that in the wordship?
murdering is not Islam and you are not observing
you are not a Muslim; Israel don't take my side,
look at how far you pushed them
walk with me into the ghetto this is where all the Kush went
complaining about the liquor store then what you drinking liquor for?
complain about the gloom but when did you pick a broom up?
just listening to Pac won't make it stop
a rebel in your doubts ain't going to make your heart
if you don't become an actor then you won't ever be a factor
pills with million side affects, take them when the pains felt
wash it down with diet soda, killing off brain cells
crooked banks around the world will gladly give a loan today
so if you miss a payment they can take your home away

Chorus: Skylar Grey
It's so loud inside my said with words I should've said
as I drown in my regrets I can't back the words I never said

I think all the silence is worst then all the violence
fear is such a weak emotion, that's why I despise it
we scared of almost everything, afraid to even tell the truth
so scared of what you think of me, I'm scared of even telling you
somethings I'm like the only person I feel safe to tell it to
I'm locked inside a cell in me, I know that there's a jail in you
considering this your bailing out. So a take a breath, inhale a few
my screams are finally getting free
my thoughts are finally getting out

Chorus: Skylar Grey
It's so loud inside my said with words I should've said
as I drown in my regrets I can't back the words I never said

This shit is crazy.  Lupe finally won me back over after all that music that got out I wasn't feeling

Style and substance aplenty, how many other rappers do you know that have the balls to say these things to? well known rappers that is.
I am shocked that they are going to allow this to be released on a major album as an album track let alone a single.

LOL please. Dre just copied T.I., Diddy, Eminem & B.o.B.  ::) (Alex Da Kid beat, catchy female hook).

This Alex Da Kid-female hook thing is getting a bit annoying, but I respect Lupe spittin' some real shit

It's a good song., great lyrics, nice beat...but aren't all of these Alex Da Kid songs sounding just a bit generic and repetitive to you?  Even my wifey was surprised Lupe went this route

I mean every single song I've heard from him has had a different direction lyrically though. The beat is very important to me & not only do I feel some of these beats, but lyrically they all sound different, so I guess that's what's keeping the sound from going stale to me.

B.o.B. made an inspirational song.
Eminem made a song about a violent relationship.
T.I. made a deep, personal track.
Diddy "went home" lol.
Dre & Eminem made a personal song about their careers.
& here Lupe went absurdly political.

Beats are important, but lyrics are what makes the sounds of each song different.

50 Cent said that Alex Da Kid is going to produce for "Black Magic", this Summer. It's going to be interesting to see if he follows suit with his single.

Very true, but I highly doubt Alex Da Kid had anything to do with the different lyrical directions these all went in

^Certainly not, I'm not giving him credit for that. All I'm saying is, he can keep making similar beats & throw females singers on the hook, but if the song as a whole sounds different then everything named in this thread, I don't mind it.

Not going to lie, these songs may get played out way too much & it eventually effects my opinion of them, but I did like all the songs mentioned in this thread at one point.

Lupe has been talking about this stuff for a minute...def impressed that he is addressing these things, and especially pushing it as a single.

See how artists have to make huge concessions for the label?  It's like, ok, you can put whatever lyrics you want, but we're still gonna make it over the current flavor of the week producer, make it sound like every other song, get this ho to sing on the hook, etc...

Exact same shit they did w/ Nas' last album...Hero was very dope lyrically, spoke on some real shit...but they made him hop on one of Polow's beats and get Keri Hilson or whoever it was on the hook.

Check Lupe at the end of his Letterman performance: "No New World Order"

Basically..

So sad (from the label perspective).

It's like a compromise

nothing wrong with having a dope beat to sell music.  it's just a matter if it work or not.  nas's hero and lupe's words works.  other times, love the way you lie (despite being huge), don't.  just my preference though
