not suprising at all. one of the best on the post, offensively and defensively, had just infinite post moves. he sometimes gets overlooked in the discussion about the best pf's ever but he's up there, he didn't have a long prime so to speak, or didn't have that much time to play in his prime, due to the team he was playing on, and injuries. he averaged like 20ppg while playing 30min off the bench when he was 6th man of the year and in the year that he got his time and was injuries free in his prime he averaged like 26ppg while shooting 60% from the field in a team where he had to share the rock with bird, parish and also ainge and dj. he was also great defensive wise, selected many times to the all defensive teams. if he's talking about his position on the court only, certainly he is, it's not suprising at all, he also played against guys like karl malone of course, but that's not an outrageous thing to say at all, mchale is maybe the best low post player ever seen.

That's "turrrrible".

the only pf's I rank above mchale, all time, are barkley, malone, duncan and also garnett (not by much), elvin hayes comes close, then there's guys like petit but I never seen them play.

if you gave KG John Stockton he wouldn't have had to leave Minny for rings

maybe yes, during the time he was there, now if you trade malone for garnett in the jazz squad of the 90's, I think they still wouldn't win it all. don't get me wrong, garnett in his prime was great offensively and just a beast defensively and on the boards but I don't rank him above duncan, barkley or malone.

I actually like both Malones ahead of him. But yeah, he is very underrated. Mainly due to the frontcourt he played with. Easy to get overshadowed by Bird. I always thought it would be an amazing matchup to see Duncan and Mchale in their primes against eachother.

moses? he's one of my favourite players ever, but I see him more as a center, that was his main position, even though he could play at the 4 and was "only" 6' 10''. that would be amazing to see no doubt.

mchale was a fucking beast.
-
yea...moses malone was a center. as far as charles barkley, the guy is just a character and his opinion changes weekly. he doesn't think before he speaks, which is actually what makes him great. but i do believe he was saying greatest player he played against as in head-to-head match-up (power forwards)...that wouldn't be far off, as mchale most definitely is a top power forward of all time.
side note- fuck mchale on nbatv....who else misses the good ol' days with gp and c-webb hosting fan night?

Yeah I guess. He was typically considered a PF/C similar to Duncan.

I like Barkley, but yeah...he just says shit to say shit. Im sure its what he actually thinks at that moment. He is like twitter...before twitter. Just say whatever random thought pops into your head whether it makes sense or not lol And its all about matchups. Im sure Mchale would be a tough matchup for Barkley. Barkleys lack of height going agaisnt the length of Mchale.
