Even these XXL covers can't do anything for west coast artists. Jay Rock and Nippsey Hussle were on last year's cover. Where are they now? Nowhere. Both were dropped by their labels. Neither will probably ever release an actual album.

Did you really expect these covers to help the west back into the mainstream? These were started to help your average hip hop listener know about artists they've never heard of or know about artists they never bothered to check out.
Also Crooked I was on the 2008 edition line-up, Blu on the 2009 freshman line-up and Fashawn was also with Jay & Nip on the 2010 freshmen line-up. They've all released albums (technically) with Jay Rock on Strange Music his album will come. Nipsey's becoming somewhat of a lost cause now though (just when his music was getting better, lol).

Xxls best issue of the year, every year. People can get mad at who is or isn't on the covers but I always enjoy checking out all the artists I'd been sleepin on

I heard about that but I think Cam made that call. I don't blame him though I wouldn't want my featured artist to be next to these pack of dorks. This cover is embarrasing. This looks like the sequel to Revenge of the Nerds. WTF has happened to hiphop. smh.

huge homegrown cult following, cosigns from jay-z, kanye, dj quik, questlove, mos def, clipse, diddy and the list goes one, smart branding, good team behind them (their main manager is an exec at interscope), press in all magazines, newspapers and blogs you can think of (except the hiphop press, because well, they're always late), over 1 million plays on tyler's "yonkers" in one week, GOOD MUSIC, not following trends, mad young, tyler and earl have incredible charisma and obvious star potential, and so on...
basically they are already bigger than all dudes on this cover. and they achieved that in less than a year.

It's the age of the backpacker what did you expect? Although I'm still surprised that XV ain't in there.
If anything Vado should've been apart of last year's line-up, the '09 & '10 allumni were the best 8).
At first I was kinda hyped about this year's edition, but that cover is ass. Plus when I actually take a second to think about the list the only ones I give a fuck about are Diggy, Mac, K. Dot, Twist & Fred (probably since they're the only ones looking capable of blowing up and if they do I can act like a smart-ass who knew it all along, lol). The worst line-up since '08.
