Title: New Dr. Dre Video Shows Signs Of Hope That "Detox" Is Really Coming
Post by: Anonymous. on February 27, 2011, 08:49:15 PM
The year was 2003 when Dr. Dre began working on his "Detox" album, the followup to his critically acclaimed and highly successful "Chronic 2001." Anticipation for the 2004 release was extremely high, and Dr. Dre was about to drop another classic.

Fast forward to 2011, and "Detox" is back on the schedule for an April 1st release. The album has been put off so many times that its existence seems to be somewhat of folklore. But this week's release of the music video for "I Need A Doctor," featuring his protege Eminem, has once again raised the stakes for Dr. Dre, as he prepares to drop his final album.

Earlier this month, Dr. Dre made a special appearance during Eminem's performance of the song at the Grammys. With that performance and the video, there is a true expectation that Dre's "Detox" will actually drop later this year.

There have been a number of credible rappers who have spoke about ghostwriting for "Detox," and late last year, producer Alex da Kid revealed that he had worked on (ahem, produced) the second single "I Need A Doctor." Dre also said that Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Akon, Jay-Z, La Roux, Game, Slim da Mobster, and Liz Rodriguez were the album's guest artists. More recently, Lil' Kim has talked about being featured on "Detox." With an actual visual of "I Need A Doctor," it's starting to look like "Detox" will soon come after all.

I think Detox was announced before 2003. I remember Dre scrapped Detox in 2004 and decided not to do it. At that point he had already been talking about Detox for a long ass time, as far as I remember.

It was February 2001 when the term Detox was announced by Dre to the media, maybe he started it a little bit before that, but we'll stick with February 2001 (hence the February 18th, 2001 date in the video). Anyways, where did you hear about "This Shit" or whatever it was called, as that link doesn't work.

i don't think lot of these singles dre is dropping will be on detox. that nigga just putting out records & shooting videos to build up even more hype... once he feels its time he will drop the real single. if you think about it detox has no set date so do you really think this nigga will drop his real single when he doesn't even know when detox is dropping. both that record with akon & that i need a doctor track won't be on detox...when that nigga is finally ready to drop detox those tracks will be dirt old.

I'm thinking that too.  I don't believe he is senile yet.  He knows what the fuck the hardcore fans think about his first two songs, especially INAD.  I think they are just getting the hype train started.

Okka confirmed INAD is the first single though....i wouldnt be surprised is kush was just a bonus cut or not even on the album. Money spent on the video doesnt mean shit with the money they make of head phones and album sales when this drops. Hate it or love it detox will be # 1 and sell close to a millie the buzz will be crazy when he's got a date set in stone

Yes.  I think Kush/INAD will be on a bonus cd or deluxe edition or some shit like that.

I'm pretty sure the fact Interscope has spent millions on two music videos was an automatic sign that "Detox is really coming".
