Six years after his last solo studio release, Hip-Hop icon and platinum recording artist DJ Quik is back. The Compton, California native returns with his eighth solo studio album on April 20th with “The Book Of David”. As a nod to his birth-name, David Blake, this latest release is a candid and insightful project.
Mixing Quik's legendary beat crafting with his well known gangsta bravado, “The Book Of David” is a raw representation of Quik as both an evolved recording artist and the mind of the man behind the music, David Blake. The album is entirely produced by DJ Quik and features memorable cameos from Bun B, Ice Cube, Kurupt, Dwele, Suga Free, Jon B, Bizzy Bone and others.
“The whole idea behind this project was not just to make another rap album,” says DJ Quik. “I wanted to focus on the overall musical performance process…not just the rapping part. It’s a smart album, it’s everything I wanted it to be.”
“The Book Of David” is as multi-faceted as the illustrious creator. Every track provides another gripping chapter to Quik's prolific discography. The album’s lead single, “Luv of My Life” featuring Gift Reynolds, is already garnering heavy spins from top regional radio stations, including Los Angeles’ Power 106, San Francisco’s KMEL, Seattle’s KUBE, Phoenix’s KKFR and more.
Given that his skills are just as precise now as they were two decades ago, Quik's music remains relevant and essential. “The Book Of David” is yet another fine addition to the catalogue of an immensely gifted artist.

-
Yes, I finally get to hear the album. I look forward to this.
-
With his album release, you know he is going to be doing a lot of press and interviews. If DubCNN does one, can we get advanced notice so we can submit some questions?
Peace!
-
this will be the first album I buy since L.A.X.

-
The production on Luv Of My Life is flawless. I can't wait for this shit, 4/20 seems too long from now.
Really looking for that Cube collaboration. Hope g one is all over the albums sound.

We need that album and Suga Free Street Gospel 2.
Yeah that would be cool if we could submit Quik some questions.
-
The Book of david > Detox
For both anticipation, and delivery of quality
-
I dont doubt its going to be great. When he first announced this album in the first listening party he had, he said after this he was backing out of hip hop to do movie scores. So for his last effort, it should be good.
-
The Book of david can't wait for this one!
-
lil jay will be doing the interview with quik, so let him know your questions.
album master turned in, album packaging turned in, promo starts now. look out for The Book of David tour. look out for LA Leakers X DJ Quik mixtape.

There won't be no "Street Gospel 2" at least not entirely produced by Quik, judging from what he posted on twitter yesterday. He stated he wouldn't produce an entire album on suga free, but maybe he'll be chainging his opinion since it's quik who we're talking bout...
But I'm also looking forward to Book Of David, the new single is smooth. But I don't expect anything near classic. I doubt that an album with supposedly unexciting and repetitive lyrics will get that stamp from me just for the beats.

Yeah didn't know Quik had a twitter, just checked it out of curiousity. Somebody can explain me what Quik means when saying this:
"Hit yall in tha a.m. love all yall...including suga free...Its not polite to instigate...instead: get Suga a twitter account to sell himself. Peace"
??
And damn at that line: "If I was hating on free, he wouldn't be on my album. I only f**k wit him because of tony lane."
Lil Jay you need to ask him about his current relationship with Free. Damn i was dreaming about a SG 2 produced by Quik.
Lil Jay i would really appreciate if you could talk about Mausberg with him. Mausberg still has fans over here and worldwilde, would Quik one day remaster properly Non Fiction? Does he still not want to put out a posthumous Mausberg album for the fans? Thanks.

Let me do the maths:
We are the 5th of march, album due out late next month, one ok track out (nothing exeptional) , no advance copy out, wait a minute this sound like a programmed flop no ?

Nice!

100% Flop, but I just wanna hear some new DJ Quik.
-
don't think this will be a 100% flop like some peeps are claiming. quik has a large international fan base and i think this will do reasonable # for an independent release with small scale promotion. having said that, would be good to see the single up on itunes or something, perhaps a visual to go along with it. and another track or two to raise awareness before the release.
-
waiting for this album
-
I couldn't give a fuck how many copies quik sells, as long as the musics good thats all that matters
-
I'm really looking forward to this album. Would be nice to have another leaked track to tide me over.
-
a promo single would be cool before the album drops
-
i'm gonna try and not listen to any leaks of this album. i want to hear it brand new and fresh when i buy it. one song is enough.

Luv of My Life?

I think if it were dropping in April, we'd be hearing more from Quik at this point. Him and Kurupt were doing quite a bit of interviews and dropped some indy videos before "Blaqkout" came out.

"Luv of My Life" available on itunes this tuesday. I'm pretty sure it's definitely coming out in April this time, most likely will be in stores on the 19th. 4/20 is likely just taking advantage of a promotion chance

Cant wait for that Bizzy Bone & Bun B collab.
Shit was FIYAH in that live performance 8)

based on quik being known and respected for his music all over the world. large compared to a lot of west coast artists anyway.
-
I love Quik's music but honestly only westcoast die hard fans know him. Around me nobody knows him.

most 'hip-hop heads' i know are familiar with quik and appreciate his music, just not many younger people.

Recent Quik interview at the Grammy awards. Talks about Christina Aguilera, Book Of David, and G One being involved in the project.
I just know this album will be on another level.

good news!
when can we expect a track list coming out. im curious to see as to what made the final cut and what didnt.
-
Interested in hearing the musical direction and the features, never liked his voice or raps. Blaqkout was extremely hit or miss so who knows what he'll bring to the table
-
Real hip hop heads know about DJ Quik and know about his talent level. Those who have never heard of him or say he ain't tight then they're hip hop head wannabes..so they don't matter. Here is a question for you uninformed cats out there: Name one hip hop artist who writes, produces, spits, mixes, engineers and helped pionner a whole sound for a coast? DJ Quik is a hip hop legend...i have people in my family that don't even speak english and bump Quik in their Silverado!!! Get my point?

Nobody questioned that here, or they don't belong in a westcoast forum. But in my opinion, outside the westcoast fans, nobody is really expecting his album. All lot of hip hop heads are just following the trend, checking the artist that's hot at the moment. Maybe that's what you call hip hop head wannabees, but those punks are more numerous than the real hip hop heads.

What? You thought Blaqkout was dope? You actually think he's got one of the better voices/deliveries in hip hop? Musically he has a track record so that's what I'm looking for on this album, just being honest
