It seems like over the past year he's been going on AWOL (on purpose). It's like he's silent in tha cut or somethin'. I seen him doin' his "acting" thing here and there but wassup wit da raps? Son had mad talent but I guess he's letting his time pass him (idk). At the beginning stages of 1's career (with any artist(s)) you have a short self life unless/until u end up getting to Jay Z/Snoop Dogg status. R$C put out a pretty decent mixtape and then them niggaz went AWOL too or maybe I'm just not connected enough (like maybe I'm just out tha loop).
Wutz da deal?

He dropped Marathon after he was dropped from Sony. Dude's songs went progressively worse since Feelin' Myself was released (I should know, I followed every one of them). And though he showed his creative side on Marathon, people on here started hating on him and turned their backs on him after he dissed Detox.
People say he's busy acting, but as far as I know none of the movies he's starred in have been shown in theatres.
As for R$C I consider them like Horseshoe Gang, can't blow themselves and become weed carriers for someone who had a brief moment in the spotlight.
-
^^^ (R$C) and that's what it's lookin' like even tho they did have some decent shit. And as far as Nipsey goes I agree but I don't think people hated on him, I think the labels were trying to make him into something he's not. He should've just kept it short and kep' it G' all of tha way. It's like his "singles" sounded forced (well "Feelin' Myself" did anyway, i'll never get over that "if your so cool" line by Lloyd, smh @ that still to this day). I liked "Hussle In The House" as a single, that was good and the Remix was bangin but "Hussle Is my Last Name" was wack. "Bullets Ain't Got No Names" I and II were classics tho.
I hope Nipsey do his thing tho and he shouldn't worry about "Detox" at all IMO (who should be- right?.) I still hope Nipsey does his thing (becuz on an underground level he's vicious, just not so much as a commercial act even tho he has commercial appeal).

I think it was both.
I still think that he should've released BAGNN Vol. 3 as an album, minus a few songs and add in the singles and you've got a hot ass record.

the shit could've been a classic foreal foreal. add a track or two from Vol. 2 and have never released Vol. 3 and he would've been the official new face of Californ-I-A

Very few independent artists are able to make it work these days. You have to have an incredible work ethic to make any money and/or "noise" on an independent. That's why most of em would rather have horrible major label deals than be independent. Once he was dropped from Epic you knew it was over for him.

this nigga don't even know what the fuck he's talking about. son said is nipsey catching fade lol nigga do you know what catching a fade means ? its getting down, a fight. lol these niggaz listen too much west coast gangsta rap then they try using the slangs not knowing what the fuck it means.
-
Well over this way Canadian guy "fade" means when niggaz is tryna "fade" you (play you and make u look lame so people won't fuck wit u like that anymore, kill your self confidence, be Ja Rule in 05', and everything underneath that umbrella aka turn u into a joke) and it also means gettin smacked (but with a "D" at the end). So thanks 4 your little lesson but you sir dont even know what tha fuck u talkin about. Shit, i'll keep it 100, i thought in Cali (not that i was tryna please my California constituents) that it meant tha same thing but I guess not since your Canadian ass just informed me.
But I think R$C and The Slauson Boyz are jah like the same thing, like Tha Dogg Pound back in 92'. Shit, i'm not even gonna act like i'm concrete on that becuz that's what i alwayz thought (i waz only checkin' 4 Nip anyway so it doesn't matter). Long story short, Nipsey Hussle's been MIA from the game even with "Tha Marathon" released last December (did we even get a real 'single' from that album?). Shit, the nigga don't even be talkin about shit on Twitter, i'm bugged out son!

lmao yup. but nipsey has been falling off though. Marathon was just aight but Bullets 1,2, and 3 were dope. I hope we can get those untagged 1 day.
-
I've never had much faith in Nipsey. He always came across as mildly average to me. :-\

There's way more independent rappers putting out music than there are on majors

I feel like this, there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes with these record labels. As far as Nipsey he probably didnt like the fact they were trying to change his image and music. Keeping it real would get you hated on, and held at a certain spot in the business but being true with yourself would take you a long way and a peace of mind. Dissing detox i cant say was a bad move because he was just speaking his mind something that a lot of these artists dont do. their so scared because it might not put them or keep them in the spotlight.

Marathon 2 coming out...

Marathon 2 coming out...
I'm assuming you're just making stuff up right? Has Nipsey said anything about a Marathon 2?
I would be pumped.
I can't wait to hear some new Nipsey

I'd have to agree to a degree. Just because you're independent doesn't mean it's all gravy. You're still in the industry. You still have to sell records. You're trying to compete in the same marketplace so you need someone with some dollars, distribution, and marketing to do that. Fans tend to look at everything like, "Hey, just go indepedent and you can sell more". But if it were that simple, all these guys who got dropped from labels like Death Row, Aftermath, and the like over the years would have been stayed dropping records. You may not have to answer to as many execs when you're not stuck on a major label deal but you still have to find away to generate interest in what you're doing as an artist. Fact is a lot of times that label on the back of your CD may be the gift and the curse. You may be saddled with making some tough decisions regarding your art but you're also having a lot of situations taken care of as well.

Nipsey isn't over rated, he just didn't do too much. He was on a hot streak and then yeah it's true, he needed 2 fall back for a season or two but he didn't stay consistent with his shit, he just fell into tha whole acting thing (i guess he thought he was gonna be the "new actor" or something). Pretty much the entire 2010 my man was quiet as a mouse and then all of a sudden he dropped "Tha Marathon". He should've kept his name out there heavy (maybe fucked with the MidWest or the East or something to keep it going and then did his thing, that way we could've seen him progress and some more shit).
I mean 2010 was only last year but being quiet tha whole year didn't do much for him, I think it made his situation worse. He could've went against the grain about "Detox" (which wasn't even noteworthy) if he was still out there like that doing his thing, him and Ross woulda made a tight track together and that would've been good (even if it seemed to ''some'' that it was on some bandwagon shit). It was like how RBX went away in 93' and didn't pop up until 95' on some super underground shit (like a "black album"). Then when RBX came back out by that time people had already forgotten about him in a sense, same scenario with Rage after "Necessary Roughness" (besides the radio stations playing "Afro Puffs" every other throwback Friday you wouldn't even know who she was).
Nip still got time tho but he needs to find that track that'll bounce him tha fuck back heavy, if not then he'll just end up like Glasses Malone, which is most definitely cool but Nipsey has/had more potential than that.
-
You might argue that some 2/3 were featurings but Nipsey's been in a hell of a lot of videos last year especially for a cat without even a debut album!
But fact is if you compare with Glasses or Bishop, they didn't do half as many vids as Nip... (again mostly featurings... but he was the man on all of these songs, he made them stand out.)
-
No. He's overrated. People were claiming that he was going to be the next big thing on the West Coast, the next Snoop Dogg, this & that.
That's overrating somebody who isn't nearly that good.

& Why? Maybe more because he LOOKED quite like a young Snoop, very tall & slim, same way to handle himself in his videos, same slow & easy type of flow, same gangsta vocab & subject matter... so much so that Snoop mentored him (& Problem at the time) & had him featured on his "mainstream" album, single & video & dvd, as well as let him ghostwrite for him.
As for the future, I wouldn't be surprised if Snoop had hired him again for a few tracks for "Doggumentary"! & It's quite possibly more good money in his pocket as he might have earned from a lousy deal with a major for a debut album not even going gold... (Don't mean due to a lack of quality, this we don't know, but simply due to free downloading killing his sales!)

I only like about 65% of the Marathon.
-
nipsey not a lyrical rapper or some real creative talent haveing rapper.his lyrics are basic & averge.but what i like about nipsey is that he know how make good songs.he usually pick the right beats & hooks.
