Be sure to put Shade Sheist's "Informal Introduction" LP in there as well, Nate really shined on a couple of tracks there. Not to mention that the LP is great in it's entirety.

Time to take that album of my shelf and bump it
His influece was huge, it wasn't a hit till Nate Dogg got on it. Ain't no fun, Xxplosive, etc. To much to count
The West lost one of his major players, one of my all time favorites. Nate , may you rest in peace

Very under-rated album, thanks for this thread.

I got this album the day it came out, I remember Jermaine Dupri also dropped the 1492 album on the same day that had features from Snoop and Warren G.   So I was definitely looking forward to going to the record store that day...

The G Funk Classics album certainly deserved to go platinum, but to my knowledge it only did 300,000.  Maybe we can have someone check the numbers.

At first listen my favorite tracks were "Gonna Make My Money", "Me And My Homies" and "Just Another Day".   Later I got into the DPG joints that were on there like "Friends".

...but the one song I always came back to whenever I was going through a hard time in my life back then was "Don't Wanna Hurt No More".

Been spinning this all yesterday and today, littered with G-Funk gems.

Nate's 'Drive-By-Shooting' hook on 'First We Pray' is chilling, sounds like the same style as used on 'Deez Nuts'.

Yeah it's def a personal classic. It's one of the first G-FUnk cd's I bought and I remember being a little bit put off by the style of the songs. I was looking forward to hearing regular G-Funk but instead i discovered a more intimate facet of Nate Dogg. And I loved it. I know all the songs by heart. I loved the very musical appeal of the songs. Soopafly, Daz, Warren G, Sam Sneed, Teddy Riley, Johnny J, Snoop Dogg & LT Hutton, even Kurupt and Nate himself all did wonders on that album. Daz especially shined on this album, all his productions on this album are some of his very finest ones.

Favorite songs :

First We Pray
Crazy, Dangerous
These Days
Dirty Hoes Draw
Gonna Make My Money
I Don't Wanna Hurt No More
Just Another Day
Strange
Nobody Does It Better

damn, that's a lot LOL, that tells you about how much i love this album.

Music & Me is cool, bought it the week it came out and i was a bit disappointed, but another short story is one of my favorite nate dogg tracks though

Is G-Funk Classics Volume 2 available as a stand-alone disc? Because I have the OG Death Row pressing of Volume 1 and a Greatest Hits with some of the tracks from volume 2, but not all of them, and wouldn't mind getting it.

G-Funk Classics 1 & 2 is Nate Dogg's best work (as a solo artist). CLASSICS!! His other albums weren't half as good.

I saw a copy of Vol. 1 in a regular cd store in '04 or something. I already had Vol. 1 & 2, so I didn't buy it. Since I regretted that I didn't buy it, I went back to the same store a week later (it took me an hour to get there) and they didn't have it anymore. I was pissed off about it, but a few years ago I bought a copy from Rud. Even though I already had the music on an original cd, it's one of my best purchases ever :)

they sell separately ghetto preacher and prodigal son but there's been a slip up on the tracklists. the solo edition of ghetto preacher has Nobody does it better instead of the hardest man in town as the first track and the prodigal son edition has the hardest man in town as the 12th track instead of nobody does it better.

i bought the og death row version of g-funk classics vol.1 on ebay like 4 years ago too just for my personal collection. i like the cover, the pics and the thank yous are different inside.

Found Nate dogg vol 1 the death row cd for three dollars still in the plastic at an outlet store. What a great find. What was the story behind it anyway why was it taken off shelves?

It was available for 4 days in Canada and I think they shipped only 10000 copies of it. Then it was taken off because at that time Interscope left as their distributor..
