It seems like most of the acts Ice Cube signed when he set up Street Knowledge, got robbed by his female manager. All blamed him for allowing that fuck up.

That's something that always bugs me. it's a business and if you're too ignorant to spend $300 on a lawyer to read your contract then you deserve it. If you signed it and got pimped...tough. I'm a hockey agent and I was an artist manager for a while....they gotta read the fine print and fancy words ha. That can't be Cube's fault or even Pat Charbonnet's because if it was in the paperwork then that's their bad.

Thing you gotta remember is just because you are close with the guy you work for, it's still a business. Not saying some of these artists don't have legit gripes but a lot of it is friends trusting their friends to take care of their money.

Yeah. Maybe, in Short Khop's defence, he thought Cube was gonna look out for him, out of friendship or whatever. But at the same time, surely if you're in Short Khop's position, you've got to step up and take responisibility for your own dealings. (Maybe 'dealings' isn't the right word, but I think yous know what I'm trying to get at)

what's to say that the friends write the contracts? there is nothing to suggest (nor do i believe) that Ice Cube or Snoop Dogg write the contract, this is probably handled by their lawyer and/or manager who are looking after their clients best interest.

I don't think they neccesarily do write the contracts but what I'm getting at is business is always business. You might have a much more relaxed and friendly working vibe with someone but you still have to personally make sure your money is being taken care of because that's not something you can expect other people to do for you. The industry is full of these kind of horror stories. For every label and sub-label, there's a whole bunch of pissed-off artists who thought their loyalty on a personal level would transcend any kind of business or contractual agreements and that's almost never the case. The guy running the label gotta be the guy running the label or pretty soon, he's broke because he turned all his closest friends into overpaid artists.

I think a lot of artists come up into the game and think that they are gonna turn into the superstar that got them started. These guys think they are going to have careers like Cube and Snoop, but they don't realize how rare a Cube and Snoop are. Its a tough world out there. All the rappers who got brought up by cube and snoop need to and should have been grateful for the opportunity handed to them. If they screwed up that opportunity they have no one to blame but themselves.

But who's to say what's what. Until your name is on the business, it's all hypothetical. Everybody got a different opinion of what they are worth and not everyone understands how contracts work. The best thing you can do with friendship and business is kept them seperated until your friend knows the business.

I'd rather be a studio gangster that's rich than a real gangsta with skimpy pockets. His hustle is music, we all got one. Some work, some don't but the reality is business is business. There's contracts for a reason to save people's asses/investments and at times to make someone a sucker. Usually the sucker's are gangstas with skimpy pockets trying to be bigger gangsters with skimpy pockets. Aspire to be a big time businessman and then there's no way to get fucked even when things go wrong because you persevere and have your hooks into every opportunity possible.

Fuck goldie loc tho. Same shit he's clowning short khop for happened to him with snoop but goldie still ran back to him. That first eastsidaz album went platinum and they didn't get paid at all (goldie and tray deee's word, not mine).

I think that why this happens is because people wouldn't think others who got screwed over in the past wouldn't screw over them. Especially when it comes to blacks. Examples NWA/Eazy & Lox/Puffy. And lots of blacks went through a lotta junk to be at the highest position, some feel that they'd lead others the right way instead of screw them over. Might have said this wrong but I think some of yall willl understand what I mean.

Yeah and Tray Deee wrote for Snoop too. You can't really call them ghostwriters though since Snoop credited them and even gave a shoutout to them on the " NL Top Dogg" booklet, "Bad Azz, Tray Deee my ghost writers".
