that's because you read the book first and you want the movie to be exactly like you imagined it in your head. But 9 times out of 10 they're not doing a remake of the book. They're making a movie inspired by the book. You fanboys are nerds complaining about shit not being the same.

I loved how unpredictable it was (if you haven't read the book obviously). One (short) season, 10 episodes, and multiple main characters have already died (Ned, Robert, Khal Drogo and Viserys). With so many seasons/books left, that's crazy!

I'm now halfway done the first book. Can't wait to finish it (Since I know everything) and start the 2nd  8)

This show truly is UNBELIEVABLE

I really enjoyed the first season.  I love the fact that it's showing multiple perspectives and it's being done very smoothly.  This is a good example of a TV show that starts off slow, but it quickly picked up after episode four.  When it started off slow, it wasn't boring either.

I was actually kinda dissapointed in the show. Spartacus in both seasons had me on the edge of my seat with the twists and turns. This one moves a bit slow, with every character having a scene saying "my life sucked so this why I'm like this" story that they told to someone. That seemed forced and a bit hackish to me. And the amount of foreshadowing they use gave away too many " twists" before they happened. I still somewhat enjoyed it but I wasn't impressed. The fantasy elements felt shoehorned into the story and felt jarring. I'd give it a 7 out of 10.

I was a little behind on this one.  Finally just finished the season today.  Overall, I really liked it.  I mean, story-wise, nothing is going the way I had hoped for the likable characters in this show.  But I have to say, by the time each episode was over I couldn't wait to find out what happened next.  I thought the acting was very solid and the story, interesting. I appreciate that the fantasy elements are there but are not over-the-top as is often the case in these types of shows.

About 600 pages into book 4 now, myself.  The books are great.  Really enjoyed the first episode of season 2 as well.  I hope the second season is as well received as the first season was, because I can't wait for them to adapt the third book.  I think that one has been my favorite so far.

^ Yea, the 3rd book is the best.

Not gonna lie though, while I'm still enjoying season 2 because I love this series so much, it hasn't been as good as season 1 IMO. And that's because they've made a lot more changes from book to show this season than they did last season.

It's definitely the show I look the most forward to every week, and by far.

Someone complained to me that with all the different characters and stories going on at once it's doesn't have enough character development. I argued that while some shows follow a character grow and the plot plays second fiddle, tyhis shows follows the plot grow and the characters play second fiddle. It's refreshing.

The more I think about it though the more it seems as though a mythology is being created. You can talk about the characters in Game of Thrones like you talk about the Greek Gods and Hercules. Can anyone really give me any character development of Zeus? Yet, he's one of the most famous characters in all of literature.

Yea, I've heard a ton of complaining on that also. Especially with Stannis & Melisandre. And when Renly died, it was supposed to be big, but I think most viewers who haven't read the books didn't care much.

MINOR SPOILERS (if you're not keeping up with current season).

Yeah, I agree with you on that.  It seems like they're having to cut a lot of things out, this time around to get everything from book two, to fit into the season.  It seems like with season 1, they got everything to fit perfectly without having to lose very much from the first book, at all. They've also changed some things around, and have different characters doing things than the characters who did them in the book.  Some of these changes, I can see why they were done, and others, I really can't.   One change that I think was a mistake was the show attributing the cache of wildfire to Joffrey at all, when in the book it was all Tyrion's plan. When the season started, I was surprised they changed the name of the Asha character to Yara (sp?). I guess maybe to avoid confusion with Osha?  A minor gripe, but I still think they should have left it.  Also, after last weeks episode, I'm wondering if Bran's two friends are going to be in the series, at all.  I still really like the show, but they have taken far more liberties, this time around, than last year.

You mean Renly's death was a bigger deal character wise in the book? I haven't read them.
Title: Re: Game of Thrones (TV series)
Post by: Lunatic on May 05, 2012, 10:39:50 AM
^ I think it was a bigger deal in the book, yes. The whole scene of his death looked kinda cheesy, but it was a weird occurrence, I figured it'd look odd on TV.

Yes, Asha was changed to Yara to avoid confusion with Osha.

Bran's 2 friends won't be in this season, but will be in next season apparently. I'm disappointed by this, they should be in season 2.

Yes, season 1 was so perfect, about 98% accurate to the book IMO.

This season has made many unnecessary changes IMO. Some necessary, but many not.

Nope. That's the biggest change they'd ever make and I don't get it. Well, I do..

No spoilers, but I'll tell you right now that this is just filler. There's 4 episodes left and she really only has 1 more thing to do (by the books). Dragons being stolen probably just gives her something to do for an episode or 2 before she gets them back.

It's kind of silly to do that for just filler, and even sillier if it changed the direction. It smells of HBO execs getting in the picture and saying "let's make the dragons get stolen to build suspense".

Something just hit me about the whole Sir Roderick, or whatever his name is, execution. The Pyke soldiers that grabbed him said he killed two of them before they beat him. Wouldn't a bunch of lawless pirates like that bunch just kill the guy on sight? Why capture him?

That's the thing, it won't change direction, cuz they made sure they picked a suspenseful event (like u said, it builds suspense) that can be reversed (she'll gets the dragons back soon) so it won't change the direction.

But I'm pretty sure it's just filler since like I said, according to the book, she really only has one more thing to do. Instead of leaving her out for the next 2 episodes or w.e, she'll be trying to get her dragons back.

No spoiler, but I think this may also make her go to a place she's going to go too -- they'll use the dragons stolen excuse to get her there, but i don't see the point since in the books, she goes there anyway.

like i said, filler.

This show fucking rocks! i watched season 1 and 5 episodes of season 2 within about 5 days. Love it!
In some ways i like it better than spartacus but in some ways i like spartacus better. Both epic. Love the violence and the nakedness. Oh cool story too.

I thought this was a pretty good episode, sets up a lot of stuff for the final 3 episodes.

The Theon stuff was pulled right out of the books pretty much. The hunt for Bran & Rickon and the suspenseful ending, good stuff.

Ygritte has been a great character so far, pretty much from the books also, minus perhaps a few dinks.

The only GREAT stuff they've added that's NOT from the books is the dialogue with Arya & Tywin -- Really, really great. No complaints on that made up plot from a book lover such as myself.

Sansa has received her first flowering, not good news on her front.

Obviously since Dany's entire "Stolen Dragons" thing is made up, it comes off as weird to me and it's clearly not accurate. Neither is the dying 11 of the 13 I believe. I do think her story line will even out next week though & get back on track with the book.

Robb continues to build his story with the non high born girl. I wasn't sure why Jaime escaped (doesn't happen in the books, he never escapes) only to be captured again. He just always remain captured. The whole Catelyn thing "Brienne, bring me my sword" is right out of the books, word for word.. No spoiler, but surprised that happened this early, with 3 more episodes to go.

Can't wait for next episode. A lot should go down! Jon is in trouble, Dany knows her dragons is at The House of the Undying, etc

Love this show at the moment, started reading the books and its interesting to get a bit more of the back story and lore, the first season seems pretty faithful to the book so far.

Well this weeks episode was epic!!!

And who are you, the proud lord said,
that I must bow so low?
Only a cat of a different coat,
that's all the truth I know.
In a coat of gold or a coat of red,
    a lion still has claws,
And mine are long and sharp, my lord,
as long and sharp as yours...

I've decided to start reading the books as I don't want to wait 4 years to find out how this story ends.

I bought the 1st 4 books
http://www.amazon.com/Books-Thrones-Feast-Crows-Swords/dp/0345529057/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1339472137&sr=8-1

I've finished half of the first book....i'm totally hooked.

How many seasons are there gonna be??
Could very well be 8 or 9. There's already 5 books, with 2 more planned to end (7 books in total). So that would equal 7 seasons at 1 season per book, but I believe they're already doing 2 seasons on book 3 because SO much happens.

the question is now if they put book 3 & 4 in one season or they split like a book, cuz i can see if they keep the book style which i prefer people who didnt read a book will be crying  ;D ;D

Additionally, the third season will only follow the first half of George R. R. Martin's Storm of Swords.

Yea, I hear they'll be chaning the books & more & more as the series goes on. I hope that isn't too true lol.

I thought the point of doing 2 seasons for book 3 is because SO much happens in book 3, it'll be nice to spread it our over 2, great book following seasons lol.

Now books 4 & 5 are much harder to adapt to screen individually, they'll have to be combined (books 4 & 5 should still be 2 seasons combined) but book 3 should be truthful.
