The weekend I was in Paris with my uncle, he gave a lil party with bout 50 people, mostly french. And one of them was the "DJ", well he put on the music. And they were playin alotta 70s shit and some french stuff. Suddenly i hear the "My Name Is..." beat. I'm like what the hell they playin Eminem now? Suddenly this french dude starts singin!!!!!!!!! I was like ????? So I go to that "DJ" and ask him who this is. He told me its "Labi Schiffre", a french singer who died years ago. And he said that Eminem used the beat. He told me the trackname too but I was too wasted to remember it.
Anyway, ever since i've been back, I've tried to find out about this "Labi Schiffre", but can't find ANY info on him, leave alone song...
Did any of ya'll already know about this? the beat IS EXACTLY THE SAME, and i mean EXACTLY. I was like uhhhhhhhhh another one dre? After I found out about Whats The Difference bein sampled from "Charles Aznavour" not long ago, (thanks Lil Jay), this was the next surprise. I guess one day we'll find out dre ain't got one real beat lol.
Any1 got any info on Labi Schiffre? Any french site? I speak french
peace

I don't know the title but yea I heard that track too. It was just backing music on some documentary I was watching a while ago. Dre added some stuff to it but it is VERY similar.
-
i have that song, i went to a site that lists samples for recent songs about 8 months ago and i saw it. my name is sounds almost identical to it.
-
Try searching labi siffre
Ps... The song title is 'I Got The' according to the sample credits
-
when i seen Sugarhill Gang live...they preformed most songs that people sampled of theirs...and My Name Is was one of them...
-
Beatnuts' "Beatnuts Forever" (Vocals), Def Squad ft Jamal's "Countdown", Eminem's "My Name Is", Foxxy Brown's "Hot Spot", Frankenstein's "Quiet Storm", Insane Clown Posse ft Twiztid's "Slim Anus", Jay-Z's "Street Is Watching", Tiger Ranks's "Party wit' Me", Wu-Tang Clan's "Can it All Be So Simple" All Sampled "I Got The" By Labi Siffre.
-
the controversy about dr.dre stealing beats/taking credits is really nothing new
-
Dre had nothing to do with this song. It is all Eminem & Luis Resto or whoever the co-producer is.

Dre produced "My Name Is"
-
^ Yea, well dats what it says in da credits......
I really dunno about Dre's shit being legit, most of his shit is stolen from other songs with no credits given to him.....I heard "Kill U" waz some Old French Artist's beat too.....
-
Scott Storch steals hella beats too, that's why dre don't work with him anymore.

danm dre expossed again... i love dre's beats but i keep hearin' more and more about him stillin' chit and not givin' credit where credit is due... that's fucked up, this has been goin' on since like 96... and is it just me or does eminemt l@@k like a scared lil' bitch in your sig, i ain't hatin' it just l@@ks that way to me...

O.K., O.K., lemme get somethin' straight here. It says in the book of the album, that it samples the song..... but since yall don't know about it, It's stealing? WTF? Reality Check: EVERY FRIEKIN HIPHOP SONG SAMPLES SOMETHING. good god.

i know that, hip hop was built on sampling but it's one thing if u sample a beat and another if u jack the beat and add in some chit n fuck wit it here and there... that's jackin' to me, that ain't samplin'... but if the credit was givin' for the sample then it's all good i thought he sampled it and didn't give the credit for it... i know dre's been known to take credit for chit that he didn't do or only took a small part in...

Yeah, it says in the book "Contains an interpolation from 'I Got The' as recorded by Labi Siffre, published by Chrysalis Music."

When we're at it, it wasn't Dre who wrote Still D.R.E, S.Storch did. Dre programmed the drums, though
-
Storch did the keys... thats only a portion.
the producer is the controller of the music, not the musician.
-
I thought we were talking about the Em/Xzibit JD diss track!? You guys are talking about Em's first hit...oooooooooooooooooooooh.
-
uhh this cant be the track i was talkin bout.. the track i heard sounded EXACTLY like My Name Is goddamit lol

What's the name of the Charles Aznavour song... also whats the name of that new song with a girl singing to that beat?
-
Its old news that the beat was sampled westwood played the origional song on break to the beat about a year ago. Also around the time of the song being released eminem himself talked about the sample himself it was in an interview and he had to change some of his lyrics so that he could get sample clearence. it was "my english teacher wanted to fuck me in juniour high, the only problem was that he was a guy". eminem changed it to "my english teacher tried to flunk me in juniour high...." don't remember the rest u all know. the person he sampled was gay or something and was offended by the lyrics, although eminem always does the other version live.

Okay first things First, Hip Hop was started from sampling from the very beginning and it is part of our art form whether you choose to like it or not. From The Bomb Squad to Eric B to Rza to Large professor to Puffy all the greatest producers have done it at 1 time or another from sampling portions to sampled full songs to little less known producers who dont get the same xposure as Dre or other top name producers ,it is not a crime to sample ,I can understand if you aint giving proper credit this is not the case and nobody is trying to pull the wool over no ones eyes real music people know whats up and those who dont thats why the booklet is there with creditss, hence the term credit to give credit where credit is due but since Dre credited for being the best producer in the game to having the most success in the game he is the target for hate and the scapegoat for someone who samples ,look here it is 1 thing to be able to sample a track but is another to have the idea to actually use that track to create a masterpiece a real producer or someone who has talent and has the ears of a real musically inclined person knows what works and what doesnt ,you still have to be able to know what will work and how to make it work ,these samples are so obscure and out there as displayed by the lack of knowledge on this board and others for the originals it just shows that hey this dude must have a lil talent to come up with the idea to use that and have the vision to incorporate that into his thought process,a producer isnt someone who just happens to know how to make beats or play the instruments thats a role player in the studio because you can know how to make a beta or play the keys but have no direction on where a beat comes in or works this is the producers job he creates the song direction and how things work he orchastrates where things go and how a song should sound and how it will work, there are plenty of other producers out there who sample who cant claim to be in the top 50 producers in music sampling means nothing especially if your working with a 50 year old sample and its from a totally different genre and you dont know how to make it work with a whole new generation, how many people do you know that could have made half of dres samples work ,how many people even came up with the idea to sample them I could understand peoples complaints if it was already a Hip Hop beat and it had worked before this is a beat which came from right out of left field so give props where props are due, real music people know how to create something special no matter what there working with as isnt just displayed with dre but with any of those other producers mentioned above
