Dude didn't even crack 10k, and 99% of dubcc probably bootleg the album too

I dont think thats a bad number for artist like Quick. He isnt anywhere near mainstream, so only people affilaited to rap check for his music. That itself isnt many people, and then half of the people that check for him won't buy the album, becouse it isnt good enough, or its just easier to download it.
Mack 10 made 5-6k in first week with 'Soft white' as far as i can remember.
-
Bro, that's actually an alright number for today's climate. A lot of people are still expecting huge numbers, shit has changed bro. Snoop had MAJOR promo and di like 50-60k, 10k for Quik is actually cool.
I'm positively surprised.

Daz did even less

Isn't that just CDs? Digital sales won't be known for a little while and per song sales have higher earnings as well as mechanicals....He's doing better than you think i'm sure.
-
10K ain't bad. I expected more like 5-7.
Didn't Mack 10 and Kurupt do like 3K first week?
-

Huh? Where did that come from? Digital sales are known just as quickly and are included in regular soundscan (im the marketing manager at EMPIRE Distribution so yeah, I know). Per song sales are not, that is correct, though.
-
You guys always release digital numbers per week? I'm in Canada, we don't see them until like a month later from what i've noticed so far.
-
We don't release numbers, but the Nilsen Soundscan includes up to date digital numbers for album sales. That might be different in Canada though, I don't know about that.
-
Yeah it's probably the same here, my mistake. I have to look into that and find out now. I figured 10K was ok for CD sales but double or triple that for digital but I guess not.....shitty
-
How much did daz sell ?
-
is that just in the u.s? didnt find the album anywhere in toronto, ordered a copy anyway
-
not bad numbers for Quik
didn't BlaQKout do like 8-10K too first week?
-
Just as a comparison... Cam'ron and Vado's new album "Gunz N Butta" that came out did 7k
-
Damn, time sure has changed. Will we see more rappers going back to slangin'? lol.

-
who bought more then one copy?
i did
and gave em to people passed em out to random people..
i do it with everybody...i support...
never cared about numbers...
-
yeah hiphopdx gave it 3 stars . people say he is old and wack now . blaqout was terrible and trauma wasnt that good . quik fell off man
i thought book of david was ok
-
I'm satisfied with the album, it's definitely worth the purchase. Honestly, I expected it to sell even less than this considering that Quik is still pretty underground and all the downloading isn't helping any. I mean Snoop had some pretty good promo for his album, and his videos got play on tv, and he still didn't sell a lot.
-
those are cool numbers! he aint even on a major
-
this album aint worth it mayne.
that cam'ron and vado is hot tho B!
-
I miss the days when even this non-promoted albums could do 100k

sad, but truth...

I think 9k is pretty good too. Vado got a pretty strong buzz and him and Cam still couldn't out sell Quik.

Regarding the West as a whole. It's pretty obvious why alot of WC cats can't sell.
One of the biggest reasons are the fans. They're too split up. I mean Cali alone got what, 37 million ppl?
Half of the fans are too stuck in the old times. Don't accept anything unless it's directly related to something from the old days (like most of the rappers we have now are directly linked to the NWA family tree). It's always a comparison to the old. I mean here's Nipsey who everybody loved one day, he says "Fuck a Detox" and then all of a sudden it's "Fuck Nipsey he's wack anyways". Basically they're all nostalgia critics.
Hearing them discuss Hip-Hop is like watching any video on Youtube were the highest rated comment is some cheap lame shot at Lil' Wayne and how gay he is, while guys like "2pac, Eminem, Biggie etc rule. Fuck yeah!"
Then the other half are just straight teen boppers. It's like unless shit's pop and selling they don't wanna fuck with it.
The first half of the group are still waiting for Dre to do some G-Funk in 2011. So they won't accept anything unless it reminds them of the old days. I mean most of the "relevant" WC rappers today are still from the 80's-90's for cryin' out loud. While you can look at other regions and still see alot of artist that either came after the 90's and had a impact or just right after the whole "2pac vs Biggie era".
The other half wants something "new" and "fresh" from the WC but not the way we want them to do it. They more or less wanna hear that New Boyz, Young Money sound and wants it to sell and be popular so they can fit in in school with their friends or some shit.
-
I think it's not that bad considering he's still an underground artist
-
it's my favorite album that dropped in the last 7-8 moths. the last album I think that was better was E-40's Day Shift and Night Shift from last year. The lyrics on this album are better than expected and it's a lot of 80's and 90's vibe on it which i like. I bought "Blaqkout" and I will buy "Book Of David" next month when my bank account feels good again.
-
Sales don't & never will mean anything.

Fixed. You're delusional if you think any worthwhile percentage of California rap fans care about either the old west or the new west.

they ain't that good. I didn't listen to em that intensely as I did with last year's records because of Snoop and WC also having new stuff out and now it's Quik, Del and Bootsy as well but from my few listening sessions the lyrics are not on the same level as far as making me laugh and so on. Plus the beats are a bit weaker on this one and the guest list is not that thrillin. They're still are very decent records, "That Candy Paint" is one of the dopst car anthems ever though, I love it. They're shooting a video for it
-
Oh, I understand you.
Don't forget to tryin the new Brotha!
-
numbers says nothing..
Just look at the audience that is going on tour..amazing..in ever store session autographs
there you measure success, radio and record sales do not say anything else ..
this is a thing of the 20th century, is now 21century

I wonder if there's any worthwile percentage of Cali locals who care about euros as much as you do...

Since they aren't on this website I doubt it.

These are low numbers no matter how much you try to dress it up, but really it's to be expected. I doubt many outside of California would have bought the album, ans those who did are on here!
It's frustrating really, because Quik could be much bigger than he is. For example, 'Do Today' could easily be a hit on the charts since it's catchy and has that cross-over appeal that most people could get down with. I have no doubt that if more people knew about DJ Quik's music, then he'd have no trouble getting a hit-record out there.
-
Sales don't & never will mean anything.
This. You muthafukaz on here get too caught up on numbers and shit.
-
Sales don't & never will mean anything.
They only do when the artist themselves make it important. I get a laugh when rappers who are whores for the mainstream (*cough* Game) end up failing. I have more respect for those who just put their shit out trying to make great music.

i don't see the problem, he does what he loves to do & there's people who like his music

True, and he has a pretty big following for an underground artist and gets a lot of respect. But still, "Do Today" would've made a MUCH better single than "Luv of my Life".
