Rage ain't from the West, and never repped for the west. She even said she hated the G-Funk beats she was asked to spit on when she was on the Row. So she shouldn't be in any of your tops. "I'm straight out of Farmville, VA, so whatchu gotta say ?"

1. Zigg Zagg
2. Sh'killa
3. The Conscious Daughters
4. Suga-T
5. Sylk E. Fine

Rage ain't from the West, and never repped for the west.

Right, yeah, she only was on like 3-4 of the best West Coast albums ever, and called that solo joint VA 2 L.A., and only lived in Cali for like a million years

I guess Kurupt isn't considered West Coast either because he's from Philly  ::)

I understand your point of view, the points you raised can be considered valid. However, she'll never be "west coast" in my book. Her lyrics and her flava are 100% eastcoast. She talks constantly about serving mc's and being a lyrical murderer etc. which are traditional eastcoast subject matters. I tend to associate her more with Primo than with Dre. Now of course she appeared on a handful of seminal west coast classics but that doesn't mean that she represents or embodies westcoast rap. Unlike other East/South transplants like 2pac, Kurupt, Spice 1 or Nate Dogg who fully embraced the Cali lifestyle in their lyrics (except Kurupt who added a twist of eastcoast lyricist tradition in his lyrics) and imagery.

If you have someone listen to Afro Puffs and who's never heard rage before he's more likely to guess she's from the east than the west.

That's why IMHO Rage doesn't fit with the Suga-Ts, Zigg Zaggs and Sh'Killas as a female mc's that symbolize westcoast music.

Word, I know what you mean, but I think to most people, even most knowledgeable hip-hop fans, they'd say she's a West Coast MC, just because she's associated with all the West Coast artists and albums. She sounds best over a Primo beat in my opinion, and her style is more East Coast, but I don't think anyone would say something like:
"oh, Lady of Rage, she's that East Coast MC, right?" or "Oh, Lady of Rage, she's that VA MC right?"
While most people can say she's a West Coast MC and it'll make sense

I think playing Afro Puffs you'll know it's West Coast immediately not from the rapping but because it's got high pitched Dre synths and Snoop on the chorus.
I think the context of her being in Cali and being on so many classic West Coast joints and being associated with so many key West Coast artists overrides her actual style

So she's west coast just for being signed to Death Row and having a song produced by Dre? Masta Ace rapped over beats that sounded west coast (listen to Sittin on Chrome, Born to Roll) but he's an east coast MC to the fullest.
