uuhh.. it died? duuh.  ;D

It just seems like there is no creativity left and 90% of all singles sound like what the labels want.

Its all money and there are hardly any good producers to draw the best out out of these young pups. Yeah most of these new rappers think their shit don't stink, but who is developing them into better artists? Oh they don't need it? Oh really? ;D

Nearly everything coming out of rap sounds cheap as fuck on production.

You got (mostly)..

No producers only beatmakers (cheap, and theres no synergy between the beatmaker and the artist)
No real studio time (cheap)
No real musicians (cheap) everything done on laptops :-X
No samples being paid for (cheap) to use AND the real hiphop DJ skills are in decline, in danger of dying out completely..even scratches, and who is using them?? are done in software!!
No mixing and mastering, no decent hardcopies ..so many CD's I'm buying sounding like their mastered from mp3 (cheap)

To top that artsits even have to promote themselves on Twitter!! (cheap cheap cheap lol)

I'm not saying you can't get a good result spitting over a premade beat, but what happened to the art of making real music with the artist like a few years back..

From an interview with Bink!

"Kurupt - 'Girl Iz All Pause'

B: The Kurupt’s situation… You know the other record I did on his album is called 'Trilogy'. My manager at the time gave Kurupt a DAT of the 'Trilogy' beat and he immediately went to the studio and he did like a hundred bars down here. We were supposed to mix it in Philly. I came down there to mix the record with him. He wanted to spit the vocals over. We all agreed that it didn’t sound better and that we wanted to keep the original. So we had like four hours in the studio. I was there, Nate Dogg was there and Kurupt was there. I did 'Girl Iz All Pause' on the spot. We had that record done in three hours. It was crazy how we ended up making that record.

I could cry when I read stuff like that. ;D
They made one of the best West Coast anthems from start to finish in 3 hours from a blank page. :monkey: :cow:  :banana_rock:

Bring back real hiphop producers in the main and get them coaxing the best shit of the lucky rappers that get a chance to work with them.

Set standards don't follow. 8)

I won't. Not on this forum.... i don't want to start another argue on what's good what's not.  lol
Seriously now. You guys should stop moaning about how hip hop sucks these days. It don't. Just make a research. I'm sure you gonna find something special for you. Of course it's not that easy as turning on the radio but if you want to hear good music you should give it a try. And i'm not saying this to disrespect you. I was moaning just like you do not that long ago. But then i found out i was wrong.... peace... and good luck...

lol.... compare it to Drake's, Em, Wayne's, Kanye's (etc.) releases and think about it again...
What is more DAAM is a Strange Music release, right? And Strange Music is an indie label, right?

I really do spend a lot of time goin through songs, checkin for that new dope shit and even some way old shit Ive havent caught up on yet.

I just think majority of new releases suck. Then we have Revenge of The Barracuda, Book Of David and Firing Squad to give us hope. Trials Of The Blackhearted and that Mack and Malone joint wasnt bad either.

There is still hope. Just a lot of bullshit too.

hip hop was a movement when gangsta rap came on the scene...niggas put down those jvc boom boxes, and cardboard mats and n picked up vest and a strap..

if u lookin 4 the hip hop of old....its in tokyo japan..they still breakdance out there...adidas jumpsuits, shell toed the whole 9..

its funny rap came on the scene...all the other music outlets hated on it...

east coast made it big...n successful

west coast get in it... east coast screamed the shit was dead..and it wasnt real music...n started the self destruction movement..n cried about the messages...

puffy came n thru put glitter in the game..from the shit he learned in the south....when he was in atlanta...

be4 the south showed boys how to ride big...everybody was on them lil bitty daytons and vogues...its documented..go google  what people was ridin on the east n west coast...nothin more than 15inches...

south came in the mix...both cost that originally was hatin on each other..started hatin on the south...

more they hated on the south...the more southern rappers..that many call trashed..out hustled the haters...everytime hate comment that emerged..a new rapper was birth...

one label that got the most..still relevant til this day...

always wondered if the people cryin about hip hop and the game put the same amount grind they put into the tears they use to cry...n do somethin about the game...the game would be better...

aint no way in hell gucci mane, soulja boy or d4l was suppose to got in the game n eat.....thats the cry babies fault..lol..

y i support all the rappers other consider trash..kuz why niggas sittin around hatin on a movement..these niggas that got the hate...hustle they ass out...

hustle > sittin on ya ass boohooin bein a critic

Well none of the 3 albums you mentioned in this thread are even in my top 10 for the year. Either you don't listen to shit or we have completely different tastes. Naming albums off to you is useless, but since you asked...

Kool G Rap - Riches, Royalty and Respect
Reks -Rhythmatic Eternal King Supreme
Elzhi - Elmatic
Deadverse Massive - Takeover
XV - Zero Heroes
Vandalyzm - Bitch Im Mis'Talented
Cunninlynguists - Oneirology
Pharoahe Monch - W.A.R.
Raekwon - Shaolin vs Wu Tang
Saigon - TGSNT
Big K.R.I.T. - Return of 4Eva
Strong Arm Steady - Arms and Hammers

I enjoyed the fuck out of these albums. Its been a good year for hip hop  8)

I don't think both coasts were hating on each other. The East were hating on the west but the west were heavily influenced by the East (makes sense since most rap music was coming from there) and the early rappers were all fans of the big names from the east but started hating back at some point. And I don't think the West has been hating that much on the South either, maybe lately but there were South/West connections as early as the early 90's (and you know that better than me I'm sure). The Geto Boys and The Convicts almost signed to Death Row. Cube, RBX, Spice 1, MC Eiht, Richie Rich, Too $hort  all did major collabos with South cats during their heyday(mr mike, willie d, crime boss, scarface). Rap-A-Lot had a few westcoast dudes on their roster (CJ Mac & Poppa LQ, Seagram, Menace Clan, and later Yukmouth). Even on underground albums like El Kaye's Money making recipe had south features like Al Kapone and the Taylor Boyz. Not to mention the "Southwest riders" compilation put out on Sick Wid It. I think the number one hater has always been the east who looked down on a type of music but then jumped on their remixes and then some artists would adapt to the current trend.

If you're open-minded you should check out dutch rapper Pete Philly. I'm impressed with his old and new projects lately. Not that long ago he put out free album "Open Loops". His music is quite specific so it's going to be hit or miss for you. Give it a try. Fortunately he is rapping in english.
I'll give you more examples if you like it. I'm truly impressed with the whole dutch rap scene...

Damn I mean 2004 2005 you had game, lil flip came hard with game over in my opinion, young needy came out hard, then after that hip hop just went to lean with it rock with and its been a wrap after that.

Word... I mean, I didn't like Lil Flip, but I agree with the point your making.  It's like Nas said in an interview once he said when 50 came out with Get Rich Or Die Trying it was the last time he felt like hip-hop was really alive.

That's why Nas 2006 album Hip-Hop Is Dead was so timely, and perfect for the times.  I really felt it did mark a death in hip-hop.  And I love that album even though most others at the forum don't agree with me.

2006 is ten years after 1996

The Summer of 1996 represented the climax of hip-hop.  And Sept. 13th 1996 represented only the beginning of it's slow decline.  Then it's death was certified when Nas dropped Hip-Hop Is Dead in 2006.  Understand?

lol. yeah. you've just proved you're really open minded. If you want hip hop then listen to hip hop.
Don`t listen to pop rap, find out you dont like it, and say that hip hop is dead.

I think this is one of the best two years period of hip hop in many many years, at least according to my taste 8)

please kill yourself if you think hip-hop is dead

Mainstream hip hop is dead  ;)
Underground hip hop is still alive  ;D

So tell me what was the latest underground project to drop which was just mind blowing?

But then i found out i was wrong.... peace... and good luck

Just a lot of bullshit too.

i feel you... well i think it also depends on what you are looking for. I'm not into gangsta/hardcore rap that much recently so i haven't checked new indie releases yet.
I'm more into easy-listening jazzy rap nowadays. And i'm more than happy with new releases :)

Aight then. What type of names you recommend then? Im open for basically any genre of music I just want dope music!!  ;D

Shit is cool.. Not somethin I would bump daily but he can spit.

And to you stalkers why is it that yall say I dont know shit about hip-hop just cause I have opinions that doesnt match yours and every other brainwashed puppy?

actually its because u started downloading mp3's instead of buying albums. so an artist doesnt need to make a hot album, just a hot single.

Because all you listen to is washed up 90s west coast rappers. And then you make stupid statements like "hip hop is dead" when you havent heard 95% of what's coming out. It's like me saying rock is dead when I don't listen to most of it.

Your playlist is all WSC and Ice Cube. It's obvious you have a very limited perspective on rap. Now if you were to say 90s gangsta rap is dead I would probably agree.

Naah I listen to a lot of different eras of music.. And I never said hip-hop was dead.. I just said the creativity is not there anymore with the majority of rappers.

And yeah right now Im bumpin Cube & WSC? That doesnt say shit about what I listen to daily/how I see hip-hop?

I bump new albums every week but most of them just disappoint.

Face it, as far as rap goes you listen to mainstream shit and the few west coast rappers that are popular on this board. That's it.

naw son, u be sayin' some of tha wildest shit i've ever saw lol.

when u said "era" that kinda shows everybody how u think.... u listen to it by the "era" instead of just listening to the music for what it iz and not basing it off of bias.

last u say the "creativity" is gone..... there's CLEARLY more creativity in tha game today than there ever has been and that just doesn't go 4 hip hop but music in general.  you're narrow minded, it's ok, you're not alone lol.  u get dissapointed by the new shit becuz u wanna be dissapointed, not becuz the music it'sself is disspointing (it's you).

It just seems like there is no creativity left and 90% of all singles sound like what the labels want.

That's how it sounded when Death Row was popular too. After The Chronic dropped, every album from the west coast was copying that style.

Gamestarr when he said the word "every" he literally meant "every" (well for the most part anyway).

dude's a foreigner, we get it, no one cares, but to say u bump alotta tha NEW shit and call it wack is beyond belief and kinda shows his ignorance towards it all.  i don't know why he's lying just kick it smh.

Bunch of squares on here longing for a time that doesn't exist and theorizing why the world of hip hop doesn't cater to them.

I think Marlo Stanfield from The Wire said it best.

"Marlo Stanfield: You want it to be one way.
Security Guard: What?
Marlo Stanfield: You want it to be one way.
Security Guard: Man, I don't want it to be --
Marlo Stanfield: You want it to be one way.
Security Guard: [losing temper] Man, stop --
[pulls himself together]
Security Guard: Stop saying that.
Marlo Stanfield: But it's the other way."

Obviously that's whatever falls into your tiny little comfort zone. Which is washed up 90s rappers and the "new west" rappers who imitate them. Aren't you the guy who said one of the most classic hip hop songs in history was a piece of shit? And called Pete Rock's most famous beat boring? You have zero taste in music. If you think there's nothing good, out that's a great sign for the rest of us.

The rap industry is oversaturated -- Look there's rap music everywhere from every coast coming out on the internet every single day -- I dare you to try to listen to every artist who drops singles on major hip hop sites -- you would be there for 5 hours trying to hear all the music and you wouldnt get a good grasp of it (only could listen to each song once maybe twice) --

There's just so much of it now coming out plus the ability to download (it's all about new music and instant downloads) that a song becomes "old" or "forgotten" in 2-3 weeks.  People might burn the track with a bunch of new tracks and play it out then burn a new cd -- also, youtube does all the music videos so the singles arent even a big deal anymore -- its tough for even name artists to sell now (just ask usher and dr dre)

I'm not surprised Usher ain't selling. He used to be one of the leading names in mainstream music, stayed on top for years...every album was lead with 2 or 3 monster crossover singles I think he could sell to just about anyone and their grandma. Shame now he's totally jocking the current trend and making that diddy bopper ringtone trash like everyone else. Labels think hype gimmick sounds and viral videos are the onlything that sells music anymore...and the only people that buy music are attention-deficite suffering web addicted kids.
