Title: Sure fire Formula For A Dope Song
Post by: Trauma-san on January 14, 2003, 12:29:41 PM
I wish westcoast artists would wake up, and realize that there's a formula for a guaranteed hit.

Just take a nice laid back mellow beat, and rap about how much you struggle through life, and try and do good things, LOL.  This is without a doubt, the best type of rap, man, it's amazing.

lately, I've been listening to

DPG - What The People Say  (With the acoustic guitars, and everything, Daz and Kurupt sound amazing on it)

Think about the stuff that's like that

Dr. Dre - The Message
SCC - The Hood Is Callin
Ice Cube - Today was a Good Day
Ice Cube - When I Get to Heaven
Nappy Roots - Po Folks
Roscoe - the Brother
Tupac - Half his stuff

It's like  a sure formula.  I can't think of one song that was like that that I didn't like.  If they'd just be more positive like in these songs, they'd go plat everytime, I think.

Most likely Trauma, I agree.  Instead of all these fools trying to make things up that sound kinda stupid, they should stick to what they're good at.  Theres a couple songs from the first Eastsidaz cd that are what your talking about.   Those kind of songs are so dope becuase they sound so real.

Damn Trauma, you hit the nail on the head - props man.

Few more for ya, all West Coast:

DFC - Mo' Love
Richie Rich - Bringin' It Back
Kam - Keep Tha Peace
Cube's remix of Good Day

Oh yeah, what's that "What The People Say"? Don't think I've heard it. Couldn't tell me what CD it's on, could ya homie? Thanks.

Yup, exactly.  I know the whole cd can't be like that, but man, they could get rich off that stuff.  People eat it up, it just feels right.

What the People Say was on that "Last of Makaveli and Dillinger" or whatever tape that Daz just released.  It's crazy.  It's got this guy playing acoustic guitar all the way through it, with like a 2 minute solo on the end, and Kurupt starts the song goin'

"Now, this is how I see it from the eyes of the depressed/
I'm a failure at life's trials and tests/"

The whole song is amazing.  Hook goes

"We live the same way/every day
it really don't matter what the people say, i' m gonna be a man...
The world is blind/they just don't see
Or try and understand what we tryna be, I'm gonna be a man...."

Kurupt AND Daz both sound awesome, all the verses are perfect.

Thanks man, I'll have to track that down. Makes me think the pair of them are good at that type of shit - you know that hidden joint on The Life I Lead? Better than any of the proper tracks on the CD...

There are a couple of songs out like these. But the audience never pays attention to it, due to the wack adverstisment. And (just take a look at Snoop) some are even trying do work with that fucking east coast sound, which really sucks.

Maybe Daz threatened him with lawsuits/murder since he was planning a album with the same name, LoL..

Good points Trauma, songs like that usually ends up dope..
I was thinking "Life goes on" & "Friends" by tha Eastsidaz..
